"five minute white boy challenge"
Hoo, boy, this 30 Days bollocks again. I promise to actually finish it this time.

Starting October 1st, this will be a thread where you post a short overview of one of your 30 favourite games of all time(You CAN just post the game and say absolutely nothing about it, but that's lazy and I'll give you a stern, unapproving tut as you do so). They can be in order or they can be completely random if you wish. I know that personally, it's impossible for me to order these, so you don't have to. Since the month has 31 days and not 30, 31 will be some sort of recap day or honourable mentions day. Anyway, feel free to take part, and I'll see you all tomorrow!

Alright, I made my list. Please note that the first half (30-16) are gonna be filled with rather meh games because I struggled to come up with 30, most of them are stuff I was into at ages 7-12 and I've really outgrown them. My list starts taking off at 15 and onwards.

Gonna do it in separate posts this time around because keeping everything in one block of post was a major detriment to the last thread.

So here I am, doing everything I can...

A short burst of gaming perfection, spawning the birth of one of the most iconic franchises in gaming history. Everything about this game feels right; the controls feel tight & flowing, the soundtrack provides the perfect ambience, the characters all handle uniquely and fluidly, and the level designs are very well done (for the most part). You could spend hours getting lost inside of this little world, and every second will be an absolute blast. It might not be as refined as the later games (no manuals or reverts being the most obvious), and the graphics have definitely shown their age, but it still feels as great to play now as it did back in the day.

...oh dear. I'll say it again, it was monstrously difficult to come up with 30 games. Had to look deep in my childhood, and, uh... this is one of the things I grabbed. Yeah, it's not really an interesting game, Nintendogs is a lot more interesting for these "virtual pet" games, but this totally won me over as an 8 year old. Got me hooked on the entire Lilo & Stitch franchise too. I loved the game back then. Heck, I came back to it in 2014, mostly because this game's alarm was the only alarm clock I had at the time and I wanted to wake up early after a streak of waking up at like, 3-4 PM, I used the game itself to get me awake, and discovered the ending to the this game that I somehow never noticed as a kid. Nowadays, I have an actual alarm clock so I stopped playing the game, I don't know if I'll come back to it, but it did its job of appealing to young kids despite the game actually being very limited.

#29 will be less limited than this game.

Not going in any order, but I'd easily place this in top 30. My sister and her friend played the whole thing, and then passed it onto me after I'd been watching it and was like "hrrrrmmm this looks funnnn." Took ages to complete, but I think I even went through it twice to improve my social links. This was the first Atlus game I played, and every one of them since then has been stupidly addictive (albeit that's mainly based off of the 3DS demos that I never went on and bought). The characters are delightful. I ship Kanji and Naoto into oblivion.

NFSU2 Did everything the original NFSU did right, and then some. More customization options, an open city to drive around in, new cars, all sorts of cool things. The gameplay also remains the tightness and intensity that the original NFSU had, but makes it even better. Truly, a fun racing game.

Number 30!

http://www.arcade-museum.com/images/105/1051639364.jpg

SEGA Touring Car Championship (Arcade)

If you asked someone what their favourite SEGA racing game was, it...

... er...

... wouldn't be this one. You'd likely get Outrun 2, Daytona USA, Crazy Taxi, etc. No one seems to remember this game, and it's not too hard to see why. This is possibly the most sensitive controlling racing game ever and makes playing it for the first time a freaking nightmare. However, once you get good at it, it's extremely good fun to rival SEGA Rally Championship. Add a sick-as-fuck eurobeat soundtrack and you've basically got one of the most adrenaline filled racing games ever created. Oh, and the cars can go from 0-300 km/h in about three seconds, so that's a laugh. Expect a few more racing games by SEGA on this list.

#30 Fire 'n Ice
http://img1.game-oldies.com/sites/default/files/packshots/nintendo-nes/fire-n-ice-usa.png

Going through all the NES roms, I found many depressing/terrible games. And from the piles of filth...were some gems in between. When I discovered the games existence, I was hooked. Stage after stage, puzzle after puzzle, my mind wanted more.

Why all the way down here at #30 though, Aegis?
Fire 'n Ice is one of those games I remember in an instant and would suggest someone to try out, but as for replay value years and years later, it doesn't have me budge to want to beat it again. Been there, done that. Kind of ruins trying to solve puzzles again if you already know how to solve them. (I find losing my mind and struggling on a puzzle when playing a game to be fun)

If you enjoyed this game, then pass go, collect $200, and play Solomon's Key, the sequel to Fire 'n Ice, known to be quite challenging.

https://i.ytimg.com/vi/SdRBvYV3hiA/maxresdefault.jpg

Maybe it was the little girls with green hair that wanted me to play it more and maybe it was my first puzzle game...
One thing is for sure though, it was creative and different for its time. Simple, but fun.

#30. (Not in particular order.)

SUPER MARIO BROS. 2: I enjoy the gameplay despite straying away from the usual Mario formula. Despite this, this game still feels very Mario, and I also like the style as well. I wish Nintendo would be using more elements from this game in their newer Mario games, *coughnewsupermariobroscough* I know this game gets flak and all for not being *hard* or being the other SMB2, Lost Levels. Lost Levels feels nice and all, but it just feels like a expansion pack rather than a seperate game. Anyways, one of my favorite Mario games~ also if you say super mario bros 2 baybee i will freaking murder you twits

#30:

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/f/f1/Undertale_cover.jpg

Yeah, yeah, I know a lot of people are sick of this game by now, and frankly, I can sometimes see why, but I figured I would get my personal "elephant" out of the room first.

I was fortunate to have played this before the game got really popular (so around early October last year) because a friend was playing Trove on a stream and was playing some music from the game's soundtrack. He tells me about this game where you don't have to fight any of the monsters, and it has this art style/quirky story that's similar to Earthbound. Hearing about all this piqued my interest, so I look it up on Steam, and it didn't take me long to see that this could be my kind of game. I laid down the 10 bucks, and played it, mainly to see if the "you don't have to kill anyone" thing was actually true or just some marketing gimmick.

What I got was a story that had a tendency to surprise you and exceed expectations, and characters that may have their own flaws, but are ultimately likable... if you don't kill them, anyway. Combine those with a unique battle/defence system and, of course, the soundtrack, and you have a game that's really hard to forget.

This game gave me that same feeling of giddiness from when I was a kid, whether it was talking about the game in general, or how to get past a certain part that's annoying; it was that feeling I haven't have with a video game in years, and that's saying something. It also helps that there are plenty of secrets with the game's lore to find, if you're willing to put in the work, whether it's getting to see W.D. Gaster, or simply finding details of the plot that you'd otherwise never find if you just blaze through the game.

Do I consider this one of the better games of the decade? Absolutely! Do I consider it "The greatest game of all time" like the people who raided voted on GameFAQs? As much as I love the game, I would not mention Undertale in the same breath as Earthbound, or Persona 4, or whatever I add on to this list (if I remember). After all, as much as I love the game, it had it's flaws; aside from the game being a bit too short for me, the soundtrack relies on the same 7 leitmotifs (the soundtrack would've been even more amazing it had a few more unique tracks), and the game leaves you wanting a sequel that may never come. Sad

Which brings me to the first sentence: I think if I had waited a few months to have played this game, I think it would've altered my perspective/opinion a fair bit, whether it be due to people spoiling the plot, or saying it's "the most overrated game of all time" among other worse things.

For those who haven't played it, I highly recommend giving it a try, and to try not using a guide/some Youtube walkthrough.

One of the downloadable games from the Playstation 3's early, awkward era, and one I feel is a good one to start the list. Here, you control a wind-up car of your choosing across various parts of the house through various checkpoints (and knocking over as many objects as possible) with motion controls (Sixaxis)! Certainly not a bad game to play with company around, and has a fair amount of replay value too. (Custom soundtracks are also usable.) It might be worth trying out the demo if you have a Playstation 3.

Perrr-fect!

An underrated gem from the masterminds at Mastiff, in conjunction with NAMCO. A very peculiar rhythm game unlike any other you've seen, the game has you run around and activate markers on a small stage at the precise time, rewarding you for picking the markers up and starting larger combos/activating markers that haven't shown up yet. The controls feel nice, but can take some time to get used to. The characters, while not the most creative of the bunch, are still enjoyable and fit the game well.
The soundtrack is easily the best thing about this game and the sole reason you should try this out. Not only do you get some original tunes with genres all over the board, you even get remixes of iconic tunes from various NAMCO titles, like SkyKid and Cosmo Gang The Video and New Rally-X and Splatterhouse and Pac-Mania and Toy Pop and Wonder Momo and so on and so forth. The whole soundtrack is crafted by the Sampling Masters crew (whom you might recognize from their work in IIDX or the Ridge Racer series), and they manage to strike gold over and over again.
If you happen to come across a copy of this title, I recommend you at least try it for the music alone. But the gameplay is still fun to be had. Even if it's not immediately accessible. Hell, I'm not even that great at it myself, and I've had the game for almost a decade at this point!
The game also contains probably one of my favorite songs in any rhythm game, The Absolute (which was originally going to be my new nickname before I switched to Sigrev2, fun fact!).
It's also a sequel to a game called Technictix, which I know absolutely nothing about. But I assume it's just as great as its sequel.

Hexen

Older FPS with fantasy elements built with the Doom engine. The game has a very creative level system, with levels being connected to a central hub area by portals and requiring the player to complete objectives that span across different dimensions at a time. Very fun game, a good way to start off my list.

Fun fact about Technic Beat: if you read the manual, there's a mention that if you get a tie after a while in multiplayer, the first player ALWAYS wins. I know this because X-Play did a review of this game over a decade ago, and made fun of it. It's an alright game, especially for the $5 I only had to pay for at a K-Mart that no longer exists. Tongue

Also, before I forget, my list isn't in any particular order either.

Anyways...

https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/7/7a/JetSetRadioFuturebox.jpg

As much as I like the original Jet Set Radio (and believe me, you might see that one later), JSRF is where it's at; First off, they streamlined the graffiti system to just having to spray on the markers instead of moving the analog stick a certain way, leaving the gameplay at a perfect brisk pace. Speaking of a brisk pace, the framerate is at a (mostly) steady 60FPS (unless you're playing it on the 360), which is something not even the HD version of JSR can boast! They also added a very simple trick system, and collecting graffiti souls is not a mere scavenger hunt anymore. Not to mention, there are more areas of an exaggerated/futuristic Tokyo-To to explore, including a level where you have to tag a rival gang in an amusement park where it's 95% insane grinding.

And of, course, the soundtrack, which needs no introduction. I would go as far to say JSRF's soundtrack is even more memorable than JSR's, and I love that soundtrack too! Hearing Hideki Naganuma's The Concept of Love gets me pumped up every time I reach the title screen, and I'm sure a lot of other people felt the same.

The only thing I didn't like was that the plot was essentially the same as JSR's (save for a few changes), and that they teased a sequel that may never come. Sad
I'm appauled Sega still hasn't made an HD re-release of this game, since I consider this a must-own for just about everyone.

Ooh yeah, PC games are a thing. I legit still pop in Sims 1 when I miss it. It was the least complicated one to get custom textures in. And I might have like four of the DDR characters shoddily modeled in the game... a few more, but I got really lazy on half of them. Sims 1 was also, ah... the only one I bought... ever. Was never a fan of aging... but I legit never learned if adults age to old people and die or something. There came a point where I'd lost so many expansion packs I just rebought everything for probably less than the price of one new one back in the day because IT'S ADDICTIVE.
When I was younger I did the rosebud glitch and built mongo houses and accidentally almost killed a Sim with two chairs and a wall. And I think I did kill a family in a fire because they just kept running into it and panicking and I'm like NO GO OVER HERE. Later, I really liked doing the challenge of being a normal person... with a "house" that had no walls except around the bathroom and bedroom because walls are f-in expensive. My friend has one of the later Sims games and put us all in a house; 'twas fun

tl;dr sims is dumb fun

I feel this game gets too much hate. Mostly from Tekken purists, but this was the game that got me into Tekken. The fighting engine is so smooth. I'd say it's even smoother than some of the newer games. The arenas you fight in are also pretty cool. The graphics are great, the soundtrack kicks ass, and I think this game is criminally underrated. Oh, and if anyone knows where to get the arcade version of the song used in the mall stage, can you let me know? It's not in the console versions. Cry Still a good game.

#29. Super Mario 64

http://199.101.98.242/media/images/40261-Super_Mario_64_(USA)-4.jpg

One of the best Mario games out there.
It helped pioneered the gaming industry in it's inception.
And this game deserves the attention it has.
Great gameplay, controls, graphics (at the time), and soundtrack.
It's a also a game where the worlds you are in are free to explore as well.

Next up, in the number 29 slot...

https://i.ytimg.com/vi/wv61YZ7qRYc/maxresdefault.jpg

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc

Did you ever watch Battle Royale and think "Yeah, this is great, but it needs more depression and Phoenix Wright?" If you did, you're bloody weird, but that's what this game equates to. I've played the second, but I enjoyed the original a bit more, so it makes the list. You play as a thoroughly average student named Makoto as he attends his first day of a new high school, gets knocked out along with the rest of his - more talented - classmates, and then some crazy demon bear tells you you've all been kidnapped and are now officially on a Killing Field Trip. The rules? Kill someone and get away with it to escape, while everyone aside from you suffer execution from failing to uncover the truth. If you don't get away with it? You're executed yourself and the trip continues. Predictably, people start dropping, and you have to find who dropped them each time. All your classmates are potentially murderers, and no one is safe. The game keeps track of who survived each chapter, just to hammer it in. This is the closest to a 'thriller' a visual novel has ever gotten for me, and I genuinely felt bad for the cast, even those who ended up killing someone else out of desperation. Hey, they just wanted to go home! Anyway, I strongly recommend you play Danganronpa. It's unique as all hell and you'll find someone to get attached to.
