SM5 Order Mix Folders

Hi all,

Just wondering if there is a way in SM5 that we can order our mix folders? I don't mean individual songs in the folders, I mean the folder order themselves. I would like to get my mixes into a specific order and I'd prefer to not have to change my folder names to do so.

Hi, thanks for the reply, I had already found that thread, but that's not what I'm after. I was wanting to sort it by the mix folder, not have to write each song name out. Is that possible or do we have to individually do each song?

You can either use Preferred sort to dictate the order that you want your songs in or they will be sorted alphabetically. There isn't any other way to do it. You can, of course, use software (including Lua scripts as part of a theme) to generate the Preferred sort files automatically. For example, the Cyberia Style (and maybe Waiei?) themes use Preferred sort to drive all of their sort modes, which lets them include some custom sorts. The next version of SuperNOVA 3 uses it to filter out songs that shouldn't be available in Starter mode.

Yeah I figured I may just have to use an LUA sort order. That's alright, I'll just write a .bat file to change the folder names from a numeric order to get them in the correct order to the original folder names when I'm not using that theme. It's going to take a while but hopefully it'll be worth it!

You could do it by folders, is not described in that post, but you only need to do something like this:



I use this in my themes, and the songs are sorted by the mixes folders If you don't like to specify every song.

I think I might be trying to do the wrong thing here though I've just realised...I wanted to change the folder order (and have it display the songs in the folders) not just have the songs listed without the folders showing. Pretty sure I'll just have to do that LUA sorting thing. I've got it working in the script, I just have a lot of folders from over 10+ years of Stepmania playing lol.

I will use that preferred sort method though to get a seamless list happening at some point. Thanks again for the help guys, I really appreciate it
