Would be nice, but I don't know if I could get enough support, and also is the DMCA limitations of the terms of use.

Yes, a lot of people (including me) wanna see those old games themes working on stepmania, due the lack of a good arcade emulation Roll Eyes but well, we are in the works, most of them are at least complete in the regular play modes.

About some news, I've updated a bit the 2ndMix gameplay screen, I've added some decorations, is still missing the stage indicator and the lifebars, I've done some LUA based lifebars, but I still need to check how to do the flashing effect Laughing Out Loud
http://i.imgur.com/bmS3wiW.png

I've added the difficulty strings BEGINNER and S.MANIAC in equivalency to Challenge/Oni. Also when playing versus, if the players have different difficulties, the indicator will be splited to show both difficulties: (I think this cané be changed in the original version, but I'm not sure Laughing Out Loud )

Really nice job so far! I love the ideas you've implemented to essentially remake the old styles without sacrificing compatibility with the newer editions.

You said you would only be releasing the finished product; will this be one at a time as soon as they are done, or will you wait until all three versions are complete and then release them at once?

Thanks! I love the accuracy of the themes, but I don't want to sacrifice the stepmania expereience too.

About the releases, I'm refering to stable releases, in the first post is the repository for the 3rdMix theme, that is the most complete theme until now, is still in WIP status, because is missing some things of the regular gameplay like the character selection, when the regular gameplay is done (The arcade regular gameplay and screens) a theme will be "evolved" to the Release Candidate status, that means that you can play the regular gameplay normally, also some regular stepmania modes like nonstop, and for the future releases I've planned to complete the bios/operator menus, and at least some dummies of the console mode screens, to make the theme feels complete, also adding some wizards to help users to configure the theme with the stepmania behaviour or, the arcade behaviour. And when all this have done, I will release the HD version of the theme, that I'm working too, the initial idea is to have the 3 themes with their original graphics, and their HD counterparts. With those themes done, their derivative themes can be done, using them as fallbacks, and we will have a lot of themes based on the old DDR engine. That work could be done faster, the base themes saves a lot of time, and is not a secret that most of the DDR games are just some sprite swaps of others Laughing Out Loud I'm working on the DDR2nd Mix at this moment to get a regular base to play, and when it's done, I will start creating the base of the first game, I've done that reusing 3rdmix theme metrics and coding, that could help me to create the 1st and 2nd mixes in some weeks and not months like the 3rdMix theme.

That was a lot of text, but is my main idea of how to work in this way, I hope this can answer a lot of questions Tongue about the 2nd mix theme, I think the base could be finished and I could create the repository of the initial version the next week, so stay tuned. Wink And wait for the 1st mix announcement Very Happy

Finished 2ndMix Title Screen

I've finished the first version of results screen Big Grin still need to fix some details Tongue

http://i.imgur.com/rj5K3YW.png

-----------------------------
Regular gameplay is nearly done!
http://i.imgur.com/PMPSsOp.png

I have some general questions I hope someone could help me to solve them:

1. The arcade version of the original DDR hast the same graphics of DDR2ndMix?

2. I think I'll start covering the original DDR variants when the 1stMix theme is done, how many variants of the original DDR mix exist? And if there are more differences appart from logo screen and song listings.

3. This is goins the same as 2nd question, but this time related to 2ndMix Variants.

That's all I will try to set up the repository for the 2ndMix wip, and start checking the 1st mix theme. After that, I will try to create all the variant themes (Via fallback of the original mixes) to cover this 1st generation of DDR, from 1st to the 3rd Mixes.

Thanks for watching! Very Happy

Oh my god it looks sexy.

1.
DDR 2nd mix most likely uses the same graphics as the arcade version. Im not sure. I played 2nd mix but not the REAL version of 2nd mix. it was the DDR 3rd Mix version. (Where you can change games with that code)
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2.
DDR 1st Mix.. DDR 1st Mix Internet Ranking.. Thats all i know.
The difference between this is pretty much two new songs and an updated interface. (From RemyWiki) And..
Single MANIAC and Double ANOTHER charts were added.

The foot level names were changed, they stayed the same (with the addition of foot level 9 CATASTROPHIC) through 3rdMIX PLUS.

EXORBITANT was added as feet level 8 and the feet level 7, HERO was changed to PARAMOUNT.

The score is now displayed in red instead of blue.

Successfully hit arrows disappear and display a flash on the receptors. The original release made no visual distinction between hit and missed arrows.

As the name suggests, Internet Ranking codes are displayed after the game. After submitting the score to the official website, the player score will be able to compete for high scores online.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
3.
DDR 2nd Mix.. DDR 2nd Mix LINK VERSION.. DDR 2nd Mix With BeatMania IIDX Club Version.. DDR 2nd Mix With BeatMania IIDX Club Version 2.. DDR 2nd Mix DreamCast version and the DDR X3 Vs 2nd Mix remastered.

Now for DDR 2nd Mix.. Uhh.. I don't know much about 2nd mix.. All i know is that 2nd MIX LINK Ver. added the ALL MUSIC options and how both Club Versions contain COMPLETELY different song list from all versions.. Oh and no Extra Stage unlike DDR 1st mix..

The original 1stDDR Asian Ver. (1.0) has the same interface as the 2ndMix DDR, the version that is different in graphics is the internet ranking (1.5), and the PSX counterpart is based on the Internet Ranking (1.5) version. Also we aren't counting the Dancing Stage versions, I will get some versions of 1st Mix, the 3rd mix theme base could be useful for 1st mix too Big Grin

Is easy to understand with some vids:

Asian Ver:

Internet Ranking Ver:

Dancing Stage Internet Ranking Ver:

I think I could make the 1stDDR Theme based on the Internet Ranking Version, And for the asian version and Dancing Stage, just a fallback of DDR2nd with the original logos like a 2ndMix derivation. I haven't found a video of the original Dancing Stage, but reading the MAME database, the emulation is working, I could check it Very Happy

The US and Asian versions of DDR 1st (and Dancing Stage, for that matter) were all built on the 2ndMIX engine. If you find a video of Japanese version 1.0, it looks almost identical to the Japanese IR version.

This video isn't great, but it's enough to demonstrate what I'm talking about. (It's the only one I can find, and as far as I can tell DDR 1.0 Japan doesn't run in MAME.)

One of the differences between version 1.0 and the IR version of DDR (JP) is that the arrows do not disappear in a flash (only happens on Marvelous, Perfect, or Great; the color of the flash depends on the judgement) when they hit the step zone. Instead, they just keep scrolling to the top of the screen.

Nice, I'm on the works, I've got the PSX version for the base, I will download the Dancing Stage MAME roms later to check the graphics differences. And create the derivative themes.

Word of caution: Some DDR ROMs won't work on MAME (other than the 2ndMIX-based ones available, I myself haven't checked the others yet). BTW, this project is a nice throwback to the first three games in the mainline arcade series (not counting 3rdMIX PLUS or the Korean versions TBH).

Is it possible for this theme to have a locked Flat Classic arrow? For consistency?

I think there are flat classic arrow noteskins out there somewhere, and you can go in the game options to set a certain noteskins by default.
If you can read this, you can read!

Like ddrisawesome1 mentioned before, you could set the default noteskin in stepmania options, I could do it via theming, but is better to do it by yourself, because everyone doesn't have/use the same arrows.

Also, I've ripped the Ps2 series Classic and the original PSX/Arcade noteskins. I think I will update them in the noteskin repository Wink They're missing the freeze body and the bottom caps, I've forgot to finish them Tongue

And about the berrilicious noteskins, yes, they could work, my noteskins are based in his noteskins, with some tweaks by me and Jousway Very Happy

I've finished the attract sequence, some screens have missing some details, like the lifebar in the how to play screen, but most of the job is done!

A little preview:

I just need to finish the screens from the logo to the select music, and add the ending screen, and it's ready for the Initial release for testing!

Looks fantastic. There are a lot of HD remade 1stMIX graphics in gene's DDR 2013 theme data. (Since it's based in holidia's SM5 1stReMIX theme) You can use them if you want a HD remake like 2ndMIX mode from X3.
