Hello Everyone,
Here is my situation, A local arcade has a Disney’s rave machine that is in working order, except several of the pads arrows do not work (bad sensors) and the arcade does not want to fight trying to take the brackets off the arrows as most of the screws are stripped, so they are parting out the machine. They have a buyer for just about everything except for the complete PCB (enclosed in the metal container, has everything plugged in, security cart, CD ROM with CD, Flash Card in slot 2, ect ..) in which it has been tested and works with no issues.

So my question is, could I disconnect everything external from the PCB in my extreme machine, slide it out, then slide in the Disney’s rave complete PCB, and connect everything to it, then power on the machine and it should simply boot to disneys rave, since the security cart would be in the original pcb with the same serial number and would be still installed on the same flash card it was, basically everything would match up.

The arcade technician told me, the DDR machine installs on the Slot 2 flash card drive, and the security cart verifies the PCB’s serial number, thus all I need to do is simply remove the external connectors from the current PCB housing in my machine, slide it out and slide in the Disney’s rave and connect everything to its housing, then power on the machine and it would boot disneys rave. I am not sure this would work, so I figured I’d ask as they want $1200 for the complete PCB which I am fine paying if it would work that way, but to me, it seems too easy for it to work like that, and I see lots of threads saying you cannot downgrade, but in this case the entire PCB would be removed and replaced so technically shouldn’t it work as I am not trying to install disneys rave on my current PCB, I am simply replacing it with a PCB that has it installed.

$1200 for the PCB is LUDICROUS. It's not even worth half that.

That aside, to directly answer your question: the security cart only checks things related to the PCB itself. If you slide the PCB out of one machine and into another, the PCB doesn't know or care. It will work fine.

Also, those other threads are wrong. Downgrading is extremely easy, and there is nothing that prevents that from happening.

It would work exactly as you think it would work; no need to install anything. I've seen an arcade tech swap out an entire Extreme 573 board and not have an error or prompt to install anything.

I kind of figured that price was a bit high, that is probably why he hasn't sold it yet, Ill keep in mind what you said and try to get it much lower, also thanks for clearing up the upgrade / downgrade issue as a lot of google searches mentioned things prevented downgrades of legit mixes and you would need a bootleg to downgrade, which I figured if you have a blank security cartridge and the legit copy of the game, it should be fine, thanks for verifying.

I'm surprised the arcade operator just didn't make a small notch in the top of the screw heads to pull them up. Unless you mean the entire screw threads were stripped. Either way I guess someone just wanted to make money instead.

When you install a legitimate version, it writes data to the security cart. That security cart will then only work with that PCB. This is probably what they are referring to when they say it's impossible to downgrade; obviously, older carts have already been used.

There is no functional difference between legitimate and most bootleg versions (other than a few remove the ability to put it on pay-to-play).

Like I said, the price is bonkers. I think $200-$300 is closer to what I've seen, and even that seems high. A quick ebay search shows a whole damn pump machine (and one that is newer than Disney mix) selling for $1600 right now: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Pump-It-Up-Exceed-GX-The-Perfect-Collection-Coin-Op-Arcade-Dance-Revolution-DDR-/111977393693?hash=item1a125f6e1d:g:wHIAAOSwq19XCY-E . That might help your negotiation.

Alright,
So I figured everything would be good and ordered it (Talked the guy down to $400), so now I am going to reach out to you pro's and get opinions (Chances are I will fight to get a refund unless you guys can help me to get things working).

1.) When I swapped the PCB'S, I noticed the Disney's Rave one had different connectors (Still has JAMMA), so I figured it wouldn't be an issue and it booted up ... but both sides of the PAD (On the Disney Rave) registered the TOP and RIGHT arrow as being held down (Thinking they are short closed, See below). The Left and bottom registered fine (See Below Picture), in the 1 in a million chance would I somehow be able to fix this? I just figured the JAMMA would be the same in both PCB's, and it appears to be but I could be wrong and perhaps I need some sort of adapter to make it work right. (Also note, The pad lights do NOT come on when the button is pressed on the Disney rave PCB even on the working arrows)

Image of the PCB'S.

Image of the error on non-error (First Disney's Rave which shows the security card out (for seller as proof he sold me bootleg) and up / right arrows held down), Second is DDR 8th which is using the same pad with no issues (They work when stepped on)
http://guilddivinity.net/ddr/disrav_02.pnghttp://guilddivinity.net/ddr/ddr8_02.png

2.) This got me thinking something was wrong, So I checked and noticed it has no Flash card and still booted, so for the hell of it, I removed the Disney's Rave Security cart and guess what? It booted (Yeah at this point I am annoyed).

3.) I realized this is a bootleg... Good news is Ebay protects against this crap.

However, the CD appears to be legit ... and if somehow I could get the pad to work correctly I wouldn't really mind, but in the current state, the game is unplayable as only two arrows on each side work. Perhaps I need an adapter or something I don't know, it just really sucks and I'm very annoyed at this entire thing.

Any help is appreciated.

That is a DanceManiaX PCB. this is a bootleg. You will never get a legit Disney's Rave in the United States at this point because of Disney's import rules, customs will destroy it infront of you.

Thanks for the information I figured as much, The company that sold it to me didn't know it wasn't legit, they just got the PCB and tested it, That explains why the game would boot on his test system and didn't require a security cat or flash drive.

Just an update on this ...

I actually got it working by removing the back plate from my other DDR's PCB and installing it on that board, it works but looks like everything is saved in the flash as all the settings have to be reapplied when the machine is rebooted, luckily, the seller just wanted to get rid of it so he refunded me most of the money I spent as he didn't know it was a bootleg but made it useless to him.

Just a side question, does anyone know where I'd be able to get a security cart for a 4th plus or 3rd plus? When I worked at an arcade we had a machine that was 3rd plus, then upgraded to 4th plus, then one of the techs bought a 7th upgrade and broke the machine so they parted it out (Over a two week period when I was on vacation), however since I always played the machine, when I got back they gave me the actual 3rd mix plus CD and 4th mix plus CD and security carts (funny because at the end of that year the arcade went out of business, I always said they made all the money off the ddr machines), so I've kept them around all these years just as trinkets to have... well last year, I went out and actually bought an extreme machine with memory card readers from a company that had actually refurbished the machine, so I was thinking about downgrading but then realized that would be impossible as the security carts were "married" to another machine and wouldn't work in my personal home machine, Granted only a few songs on 3rd and 4th I really liked but it would be kind of cool to get that working, but my guess is I'd need blank security carts, and I know channelbeat sells them but a lot of people say they are bad bad bootlegs so I'd like to avoid them, but it would be pretty cool if someone still offered blank carts you could buy so I could get them hooked up to my home machine just to have some additional mixes (Really like 5th mix and 4th mix plus but don't have a 5th, also I have a few of the large memory cards that go on the PCB so it can install, would like to put them to use but if not, no biggy.)

Any advice would be great!
