Never thought Id see the day where DDR has harder songs than ITG ever had lol.

Can we ban ITG from being mentioned on this thread? The misinformation is too real.

Approximately nobody asked for this song to be included. Least popular decision by the Japanese since Nintendo released the Wii U.

Thank you all for the useful tips!

Just wish I had one of the newer cabinets closer to me. The closest X2 is a 3 hour drive. Any home pad recommendations? I read that Cobat Flux is no longer around

It all depends on how much you want to spend. If you can afford it, definitely go with Stepmaniax pads by Kyle Ward (the creator of ITG). Otherwise #WaitForImpulse

In all seriousness: Kyle Ward's StepManiax pads are the best thing currently available, but you could buy a whole machine for the price of one of them. Impulse pads will probably be the best thing when they do come out and will be more affordable than SMX pads. Avoid Precision Dance Pads like the plague.

I think in the meantime I may just mod a softpad. Ill tape it to a wooden board and nail in fiberglass on top.

If I may go off-topic for a brief second: what's wrong with PDP pads? Asking because I own an Omega TX (at least, that's what they were called at the time), which I purchased back in 2014 or 2015. Guessing their pads have gone downhill since then, or they haven't caught up with their newer orders since then? >>

PDP have been getting a bad rap for a long time. I owned two of their pads for a good 2 years and never had any issues with them in terms of them stopping working or anything. However, I really did not like the feel of them and they don’t have a patch on the quality of a CF or arcade pad. Also, their customer service is rubbish and I have read many stories about faulty pads.

I personally think they’d have a better rep in the dance game community if they dropped their price and upped the quality a bit.

So I try not to be too vocal on the matter because they were nice to me and offered me help when I had issues and replaced a pad when my first became unusable after a short time. But I really can’t recommend them to people at the price point. It’s the sort of thing you’d build as your first diy project rather than a professional product. It degrades over time if it’s not kept perfectly flat and both of mine are pretty much unusable now , that’s not including the long list of compatibility issues they had with consoles also.

If they were say £50 I’d be more inclined to say sure get it knowing you have more money to fix it yourself and make a decent base for it and be aware you’ll need to keep tweaking it to your needs but considering it ended up costing me about £350 , it was really sour to have it fall apart as badly as it did.

Impulse pads are absolutely amazing I can say from experience but again, you’ll need to wait. Considering how much of a perfectionist they’ve been with the test models I’m not surprised of the delays but if they ever do get released they’ll be the way to go. Stepmaniax pads I can’t recommend having not used but the price point is way too high for me to suggest. If you have the space just buy a cabinet for significantly less and clean it out.

How much will impulse pads end up costing? They seem to be a good option

They’ve gave a lot of numbers but I seem to recall they were aiming to make them more affordable than a pdp pad at some point. Whether that’ll still be the case when they release we don’t know but fingers crossed it’ll be a lot more affordable. The quality will definitely be pretty damn good though if they are at least as good as their test pads are.

The pads aren't bad, but it's just:

-They cost a fuckton, for something that is made out of wood, plastic and aluminum foil
-6 week waiting period, on top of any delay they might be having
-"Maintenance free" claim, but the pads are susceptible to wearing out over time

I personally had a PDP Pump pad, and it worked flawlessly for about 6 months, but then started having more and more issues with ghost stepping and double stepping. Right now it is unusable since the center step double steps like crazy and I can't figure out how to fix it. Asking the PDP staff was fruitless, they just kept parroting "don't play on carpet" and "try buying new sensor plates". I never played on carpet (concrete floor) and even with the sensor plates swapped/removed, the problem persists.

They're not bad pads, just way too expensive and break easily.

I had a feeling that was the reason why. I've played my pad on carpet, and the whole front part of it is slowly moving towards the side, almost like it's trying to escape the frame.

I got the Omega-TX at the time because 1. It was repetitively cheap for it not being a soft pad (and there weren't any alternatives that had similar prices), 2. You could play this on PC and on most consoles with the multi-console adapter, 3. It was (might still be) the only way to play DDR/PIU/TechnoMotion without shelling out money for more pads, and 4. I heard nothing but praise, back then.

With the SMX and Impulse pads coming out (the former supposedly can be modded to accomodate PIU/TM arrows), it's a lot harder to recommend the PDP pads because of the wait times, and you can get a much better quality pad if you save a few hundred more dollars. >>

hellrazor has done a miserable job with PR department after literally telling people to take apart their pads (on a pad that is explicitly said not to take apart) because shit might get messed around during shipping, which says a lot about the general build quality tbh if that's been a consistent issue.

Don't give more money then has already been given to this. The only reason PDP even had a market was because literally nothing else was available at the time beyond used pads on ebay

PDP are a meme, don't buy. Just scour eBay, you're honestly only fucking yourself if you don't have the paitence to wait for something good.

Still no release date, but at least they're talking to us.

I'm actually pretty pleased with the shitstorm that started on twitter, and Konami's response to it, while confusing as fuck, gives me hope.

Well - at least someone in Konami can write something in English without making spelling mistakes.

Yeah, I still don't really see this as "DDR IS DEAD". More like "hey, you might like this new thing we have since you like DDR". Kind of like how CD's will have stickers on the front saying "For fans of <insert bands/artists here>".
