Wait, really? Does that mean it's hypothetically possible to upgrade a 1stMix cabinet all the way up to DDR 2013 with a long series of upgrade kits and no hardware changes?
If I'm remembering correctly, the Supernova 2 machine that used to be at the Dave and Buster's in Westbury, NY was originally a US 1st Mix and they put Supernova in it as soon as upgrade kits became available (Supernova 2 later on). If that was doable, then I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to put DDR 2013/2014 in a 1st Mix cab as well.

It's not accurate to say there wouldn't be hardware changes; obviously the insides of a 1stMIX cabinet are nowhere near capable of running DDR 2013 or anything remotely recent. However, you could continue to use the cabinet and pads if you gutted the insides for the modern motherboard, etc. Kits with new inside hardware can be ordered to upgrade older machines.

Yeah, considering the hardware upgrades between 5thMix to MAX, Extreme to SuperNOVA, and maybe somewhere between X2 and 2013 (Don't know exactly where, I'm just guessing something happens here), I think you'd have to do more than just software updates to upgrade certain versions of DDR.
1st->2nd = Analog IO 573
3rd->Extreme = Digital IO 573
SuperNOVA->SuperNOVA 2 = Python 2 (Playstation 2 hybrid)
X->Current = BemaniPC (There are a few revisions in here)

Let's also not forget the Pad I/O change going from Extreme -> SuperNOVA (EXT I/O)
I'm not sure there were any Pad I/O board changes between 1st to Extreme. I wouldn't be surprised if there were, but I can see the same I/O being used the whole way through
The DDR X games can't even boot without that I/O board being present. But yeah, the machine actually running the game's been changed a lot over the years.

There were no pad IO changes between any of the various hardware changes. The EXT-IO acts as an intermediate board between the main CPU unit (Python or BemaniPC) and both the lights and pad IO.

The Philippines has six BRAND NEW DDR A CABS! Quantum, our local arcade, seems to be in a roll. In fact, we even have two GITADORA DRUM MANIAs now.
I'll probably sit this one out for the next few months before playing. I'm expecting a crowd of "monsters" to be circling each machine trying to get to Ace for Aces while I wait with my 1 credit just to play Break Free on this mix.
I'm getting horrible flashbacks to that time they hogged the machine trying to get spammy, stream edit stepcharts like MANDODO and YESMAN!, which bumped off some of the Xbox Oni edit charts.

AFAIK, nobody in my country is even aiming for Ace For Aces right now, since a lot of players burned off and/or a bit rusty since X3. A lot of us even missed out on the new songs of DDR 2013 onwards.

To be fair, there's a lot more machines now than there were during the X2 days (which initially had 2, plus 1 in the south and then another 1 later on). We'll see, I am very rusty myself.

So in Singapore the DDR A machine (s) is in English now
I guess this is related to the Philippines having it in English and Australia getting it soon as well.

Nope. Those licenses are still intact in all 3 aforementioned countries' versions, as well as the ones from 2013, 2014, and A that were left out from the NA version.

Speaking of rusty, I remember the time when I thought DDR X was the last installment of the game. Then I heard about X2, X3, 2013, 2014, and the "newly released" A in the timespan of 2 hours. Lol, my head hurt from all the information.

Wow I suck. His heart must probably pumps oxygen much higher than usual. I need to keep giving my heart a workout to reach this kid's level.

I have the same thoughts. Wow, I definitely stink at this game. At this rate, this kid will probably grow up and think my edit charts are fair game.

Is there an age restriction for KAC? I would love to see him reach the finals.

X->Current = BemaniPC (There are a few revisions in here)
On DDR X-X3, Bemani PC uses an original Windows XP Embedded, while in (2013) onwards uses a Service Pack 3 of same OS.
