"Sleep cancelled due to COVID-19." |
From what I've gathered, outside of Round 1, Bemani titles other than DDR A are not going to happen.
The Rhythm game market, as much as I hate to admit it, is very niche. DDR was one of the few rhythm games (until guitar hero) that was ever 'mainstream' (and even that's very much stretching the definition; DDR was never that mainstream).
It's not going to happen, baring a literal miracle.

Okay, so I re-read all the posts and tried to figure things out...
So I'm betting we'll probably get localizations of future DDR games if we continue on the same path as 2013 and onward. Since in Japan, DDR A is merely an update added to a DDR 2013 cabinet, I'd say it's safe that at the very least we get new updates for later releases unless they upgrade to an entirely new machine. Considering they didn't bother to romanize the Japanese titles, they might have plans for that. Mostly everything is in English anyway, so the only issues with localization would be running the whole eAmuse thing, but that's already set up.
Reading through the reddit post again, it almost seems to me that the reason D&B won't be localizing other BEMANI games isn't just because of their choice, but rather because Konami won't localizing them. Which is likely due to the niche market. I don't know if there's a niche market for rhythm games in general, but I do know that arcade games are pretty niche in the US in general. I feel like it's kinda a byproduct of us starting to isolate ourselves more and more, but that's a personal opinion I don't really want to rant about. I was confused because I didn't notice the topic of the post at first, but after reading it through multiple times it seems like Kevin would like to localize BEMANI games, but they don't have the power to because Konami will never localize them.
As for games that would probably localize well, I'd think Reflec Beat could be relatively popular. I hear it's relatively disliked within the BEMANI community, but from what I've noticed from taking my brother's iPad Pro around for Speech & Debate tournaments, people enjoy it as a multiplayer game and usually catch on relatively quickly (Except for those dang triangle notes). Whether they actually score well is another story, most people get a full combo but don't get enough points to pass the round. But people enjoy the multiplayer aspect, and I think playing the game on a air-hockey like table would be cool. (Probably won't happen since that would require a lot of reworking of a pre-existing game)
As a side note, how many people would flame me if I put "DDR" and "redemption game" in the same sentence? I mean, it is Konmai we're talking about here, so I know that realistically it wouldn't work. But I'm sure the right mathematical formulas would allow new players to noticeably win bigger ticket yields while top players draw attention through their yields, and yet they don't clear the entire prize rack after clearing a bunch of 18s. Ignoring the complex mathematics and how exactly we get it to work, would people hate the existence of a redemption aspect in a DDR game simply because of its very existence?
Please correct me if I'm confused about something, it's midnight and I'm tired.

I struggle to believe that a game as fun as and with such awesome music as RB is disliked.

Reflec is a fucking mess to play, regardless of the soundtrack.
Also, yes, Dave and Busters isn't going to be bringing anything over from Bemani from now on.

While it's a shame I probably won't see anything outside of Pump It Up at my D&B, I guess we'll have to rely on the growth and success of Round 1.

Not to mention there are simulators, and you can import or play older releases. Some conventions also have such games you may wanna play as well. It's a shame that not all BEMANI games will be getting a US release, but you have to remember: it's konami, and no one might care. I do think Konami should take a risk at the very least.

Reviving the arcade scene in the US seems to be their goal here, and they seem to be doing at least an okay job at it. With it's growth, we should see some competitors rise, and demand to increase. But I don't think waiting is the only option. This might sound a bit sappy, but sharing our love of these games with other people and showing them the world of Bemani would help spark interest in the semi-general population, and potentially grab Konami's attention. How do we do that, exactly? Well, you gotta get creative. Hope is one thing. But speaking won't accomplish everything- You gotta do something crazy.

well okay then
Though in all seriousness, the background to that song really is something.

Since X3's LOVE IS THE POWER was cleared up easily, this time I made the Difficult chart Level 15 so it would not be able to clear that easily, but this time it was a bit overkill...
