Those games all being more popular/commercially successful than anything Kyle Ward had a hand in?

Keeping in mind he had a hand in ITG, here.

You expect me to know the exact sales figures of every single game?

Also, I almost forgot about mobile games like Deemo, VOEZ, Cytus, etc., but I highly doubt that one mobile game Kyle made that I forgot the name of is more successful than those.

APPEND: DittoBeat is the name. Go and compare the number of downloads every game has in the Google Play Store or App Store. The difference is laughable.

Rerave also.

Also, you know, ITG being the game that most people are playing on is a pretty major one.

Rerave still has far fewer DLs, though, at least in the Play Store.

And who are these "most people" you speak of?

I think it's pretty silly not to want the guy who basically saved DDR from extinction to join the actual DDR team. But maybe that's just my desire to see DDR be everything it can possibly be. I don't care if anyone has a "monopoly" (lol), I just want an amazing game. I think Kyle would have some cool ideas to contribute, without necessarily "taking over".

I believe I mentioned this over half a year ago, but I'll say it again: Why would Kyle, who helped work on an IP that Konami themselves have bought the rights to and killed off due to an infringement lawsuit, want to make/help collaborate on music for any of the Bemani games that are still mainly Japan/Asia-exclusive, let alone for DDR?

Unless there's a game development equivalent to Stockholm syndrome, I don't think that will ever happen, nor do I honestly want to see it happen; I'd rather see Kyle's vision of bringing the music game scene back to its prime in The Americas/Europe and see the homegrown devs/musicians one day go toe to toe against Asia's music games without any worries of lawsuits and whathaveyou.

I mean, ITG is awesome but I don't even know how it lasted as long as it did.... it's literally DDR (Pro Version). Did he really think he could just make another 4-panel game and call it something else? This world runs on lawsuits.... what I'm saying is he should've had some idea about the legal issues (but likely chose to ignore them). Konami did what any company would've done.

To hold that against Konami might be emotionally-just, but moving-forward professionally it's water under the bridge...it's business. DDR is back and it would be dope to have an expert like Kyle on-board.

Thanks for getting me out of the negative points value, haha.

Any more feedback? I'd love to answer questions and hear suggestions. We are listening and doing what we can to accommodate lots of new ideas and concepts.

ITG is only still "alive" because of custom files, and that's literally it. ITG is basically used as the best pads you can play on for pad files. Very few even plays the original ITG charts anymore.

Outside of Asia, there's actually no other rhythm game out there that's doing well commercially. At all. The closest we technically have is Just Dance, but since it's gone to become a Kinect game now it's become a niche thing as well. The rhythm gaming market is a niche market now because of this.

Also, I hope you guys know that this game was possible because Kyle Ward went to Konami to ask for permission to make and release this game. Obviously, he couldn't make an ITG3 because Konami wouldn't allow another straight up 4-panel game to compete with theirs. We (or at least I) don't know how much they're working with Kyle at all for this game...if there is any intervention.

from what I heard is that he asked for permission from them but he would put them in health clubs/gyms instead of arcades.

seen that from a Facebook thread involving the guy who runs tokyo attack and was involved with kyle at mag fest.
What the hell does U1 smoke to come up with EGOISM 440?

I'm sure some people are already thinking this, but I might as well be the first to actually say it: I don't think putting the game only in health clubs/gyms would be a good idea, period. I just don't see the average person who goes to Zumba Fitness going to play a full session, if at all, of Step ManiaX; they aren't going to the gym to play a "DDR ripoff", they're going there to get their daily exercise that sometimes involve a full-body workout, and there's a wide variety of ways of doing so.

Even in the off-chance someone did decide to give this game a shot, the odds of them coming back and playing it regularly/semi-regularly like someone at an arcade playing DDR/PIU are very, very slim. And plus, most people probably aren't gonna listen to obscure 90's bubblegum dance like Licky Licky, or Eurobeat songs among other things; there's a reason why Just Dance has sold like hot cakes throughout the years, and it's because they've concentrated on the popular songs you can easily hear on the radio at any given time.

TL;DR, if Step Revolution is really thinking they're gonna do well by not making an arcade version and only concentrating on gyms, they bumped their collective heads a little too hard.

I agree. Impulse pads are going to be much cheaper when they come out so the home market isn't going to be much of a thing either. The arcades really should be a place where you can play this game, even if gyms and stuff still have them.

Hell, I'd go to the gym if it meant I could play this.

The thing with gyms and this game however is that to really be burning off a significant amount of calories or tone parts of your body you have to be playing the more difficult stuff. You're not gonna be feeling like you're getting your moneys worth at the gym or like you're healthier from playing charts equivalent to DDR 2s and 3s, so people are going to have to find the time to learn the game and it's mechanics, learn how to read charts etc and I just don't see people doing that. They'll try out of curiosity a few times maybe but that'll be all and unless there are some people actually very good at the game I see the unit collecting dust.

Let me comment on a few things here:

1.) You burn a lot of calories just playing on "Light" mode (whatever the equivilant is). I know this because when I was 16, 10 fucking years ago, this was how I got into exercise in the first place. And DDR MAX had a calorie counter. You burn a lot if you play even just 30 minutes. Even one session of 4 rounds will burn enough to make you either want to play again, or warm you up enough to do your real exercises; or maybe even replace the treadmill.

Keep in mind DDR hit High Schools and most who've used it in gym class have very positive experiences with it.

2.) As someone who does go to a gym regularly, gyms are based on membership. They aren't based on how many times someone uses X-machine. They are based on getting people to sign up for a membership. A machine that looks like DDR in the window is going to draw in people -- both who wouldn't normally go to a gym (Quickman above just said he'd go if they had one) and people who might've gone regardless, but now are drawn in even faster by a flashy machine!

3.) While the machine might not be active all the time (the above poster did have good point in that regard), it'll likely be set to free-play. If it's in the stretching / yoga / calisthenics room, it'll be used by everyone who wants something to keep them interested in their workouts. You get bored very easily if you are not on a great routine and the notion of having a different machine to do SOMETHING different is positive.

THE NUMBER ONE ISSUE is the song selection. Regardless even WITH whatever music, it'll likely still draw some people at a gym.

tl;dr DanceManiaX will be a bonus for gym-go-ers, not the main draw.

The game is going to be at betacon this weekend if anyone here is going.

Vastly updated build, and there's going to be a tournament.

^ Kyle Ward confirmed this over on Facebook; curious to see what the new build looks like; hopefully they've fixed some of the nagging issues everyone's had, maybe add some new songs on there as well. Part of me is hoping they've added a Marathon mode since MAGFest, but it's all still a mystery.
