I've got this cabinet:

and I'm bored with the game selection, so I wanted to know if anybody's ever converted a standard cabinet to a rhythm game cabinet (SDVX, DDR, IIDX, etc). It's an idea I've had for a little while now.

I can see an older version of pop'n working on that with ease.

It wouldn't take much to turn it into a 4-Panel cab if you don't mind having a bunch of useless space where the original controls usually go. I suppose you COULD put a keyboard and touch panel there for a mouse if you desired to control the menus and stuff (PC Based hardware naturally).

Sound Voltex wouldn't be desired since it requires a rather large screen mounted vertically (in portrait) and it would look and play weird in that cabinet.

I agree with Pandy about a non-HD Pop'n; a ASC or other large controller would be great there with little modification assuming it actually does fit on that cabinet. If not, I hope you know how to use a saw and mounting hardware. I suppose a Bemani PC based version might work if you know how to work those systems. We don't discuss that here, mind you, but I'm sure you already know that.

IIDX could work as there is ample space to fit in a couple ASC sized controllers from DJDAO. Using IIDX unless from an older mix would require messing around with Bemani PC or just regular PC hardware yet again considering the older mixes require the actual hardware to run and that could be pricey to find and install.

If you wanna go ghetto as all hell you could probably turn it into a DDR/ITG/Pump (I guess) cab like a few people did in south america with enough persistence.

But then again lol

I could see a Solo cab, but nothing really much else. The screen size is ok for 1-player but any double play would be fairly difficult with that screen size. I would also hate hate my arrows scrunched all the way over to the right or left of the screen, considering distance and how low the monitor is (your preference is probably different). You would have to attach a USB Dance Pad to the back and then attach a J-Pac to the buttons for menu navigation (If you want to navigate by pad, you can skip adding the J-Pac). You could do it, but I think it's weird and looks awkward.

"No."
OpenITG with Solo arrows enabled. Front panel can be keyboard and mouse.
Or make it a MAME cabinet you can load your own roms into it, Multiple Emulators..
Load a 360 in there with fighting sticks.

Retro Emulators and other MAME games would do NICELY for this cab.

In regards to Sound Voltex, you could try using Kshoot Mania instead, it would be more customizable and legal Tongue
