If you want to skip this paragraph and get straight to the point, skip it if you want to:

Hi everyone. Im still relatively new to posting in the forums but not new to the site. Usually when I need to get help with something or trying to find something related to StepMania or DDR or anything in that nature, the answer is already here. I mean, I only have one other post here from LAST year in regards to with my PS2 mat to PC converter with arrow registration. Dont need help anymore with that because I just recently found a USB mat (D-Force Dance Mat) that I received last week (Because of school and work got in the way, I havent played any DDR. I started playing again two weeks ago since I am out of school and my job is a summer job (and yes I am looking for a job right now in case you're wondering) so I have time to play again).

I want to mod my mat for use as a hard mat. What I found online so far, some of these methods go way back to 2003 (WHAAATTT!!). Im not sure if any of these are outdated or not or still in use today.

My question is, is there any newer ways to mod a soft mat or are the old ways still good to use today? I've been looking into this for a while now and found some different options. These are what I found:

1). http://www.ddrfreak.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=105345
2.) http://www.angelfire.com/pro2/softpadmod/#_Toc71480697
3.) https://www.cheapassgamer.com/topic/10768-ddr-pad-modding/

Has anyone used these methods before? If so, how did they turn out? Does anyone here use any new or up to date methods that would work just as well? If it isnt any trouble, could you possibly post pictures if you have done any of these mods?

These are the best ones that I have found so far. I dont want to do anytning extreme with buying a bunch of metal, different parts and use fancy tools. This is a new and a very good mat, probably the best mat I have ever owned, it just slides a lot. If I could afford a metal mat, I would have one in possession by now.

I also want to mod this pad because instead of just playing StepMania for fun, I am using it for exercise to lose some weight!!

Im also planning on buying a speaker set, some special lighting from Spencer's Gifts, a blacklight and blacklight paing (but i already have the paint) and plexi-glass and build a little set up like a mini cabinet. I think that would be pretty cool!!

I have some pictures of the mat I have now that I want to mod:

I just taped some anti slip mats to the bottom of mine and it seems to be working really well and was a cheap and easy solution to slipping mats:

This was enough to cover two mats.

The best thing to do is get a Masonite board and duct tape your pad to it.

You should duct tape the pad to the smooth side, and the rough side will grip the carpet well. You can probably put some anti-slip material between the board and the pad as well as using duct tape. I did this before I upgraded my pad to an Omega GX (skip to 0:25):

I'd recommend doing it as long as you have a place to store the board. It is lightweight too. Hope this helps!
