Just a suggestion, an update to a sound effect in Editor when somebody made a mistake or that option, step or feature is not available is needed. It hurts my ear due to too high decibel (and perhaps clipped), even if I turn on half the master volume.

Out of curiosity, what is the current file size of CyberiaStyle? I haven't kept up on it.

The latest version of CS8 (8.3 revision 6) is 70.4 MB, and while it's one of the nicest looking themes you will find for SM5, it does have some pretty cool features (unlockable "frames" that you can customize being the most impressive, and even a full-blown Extra Stage system), but not enough of it. However, it will soon be an obsolete theme when Last Approach releases, whenever that may be (Only way to get it early is if you live in Japan and buy a DVD from some "comic market" tomorrow, 8/17). I'm excited for LA because it looks like it's gonna have even more features, and it will have both DDR and ITG-style scoring on the same gameplay screen rather than having to switch between the two like in most other themes.

So I got everything moved over onto the PC that runs in the groove at our arcade and have some questions that you may or may not have an answer to.

To start off this theme looks great! However I do have one problem with switching this theme with the OpnITG setup and that is with gimmicks. I don't know if there is a way to make stepmania 5 support .lua or foregrounds on songs that use them as gimmicks. Is there a option I am missing to get them to work or is generally not supported at all in stepmania 5?

Is there a option I am missing to get them to work or is generally not supported at all in stepmania 5?

I could talk about this topic for a while, but I'll attempt to answer both concisely and clearly.

OpenITG (the program) is based on StepMania 3.95, an unofficial version of StepMania that is fairly commonplace only because arcade ITG is also based on it. 3.95 is titled so because it was something of an intermediate stage between SM 3.9 (in which theming was very basic and inflexible) and SM4, which was closer to SM5.

StepMania 3.95 and its derivatives use .xml files for theming and, thus, for foreground and "gimmick" charts (which are essentially small bits of theming contained within a simfile). It was possible to embed Lua into the XML, and this is how most ITG gimmick charts do their thing. From a developer's/themer's perspective, embedding Lua was/is really clunky, however, so SM4 moved to using pure .lua files for theming.

SM5 dropped support for .xml theme files a very long time ago and the proper way to do theming/gimmick charts in SM5, really, is to just use .lua files. Converting old .xml files to new .lua files is not a 1:1 process, and requires both programming knowledge and some familiarity with StepMania's quirks. As an example, porting the Simply Love theme from using .xml files to using .lua files took me ~15 months (but, for what it's worth, I am fairly slow and inept).

With all that being said, djpohly did some work about a year ago to partially support xml in simfiles, using the D.O.W.N.S 4 ITG pack as his testbed. You can try this out in SM5 by going into your preferences.ini file and setting QuirksMode=1, and recaching everything (just delete all contents of your cache folder and start SM5 again).

From my experience with this feature, I'll note that not every gimmick chart behaves the same way it did in SM 3.95. Charts that move images around (like Box) should work perfectly. Charts that manipulate the playfields do not always work as expected. You'll have to try it out yourself and see what you think.

It is possible this feature (legacy XML support) may improve in the future, but it is seeing no active development at the moment.

Hopefully this helps.

Converting a single simfile is typically the work of 20-40 minutes to convert everything from XML to properly indented Lua and updating API calls that use functions that no longer exist or have changed, then 1-2 hours of testing and tweaking mods to make it look the same again. (but, for what it's worth, I know the Lua API extremely well)
Some simfiles may take more or less time, depending on their complexity.

Thank you for replying with such a very concise and thought out post. I haven't been able to read up too much on it or understand why it might not be supported but now I do have a full understanding. I'll give that one trick you posted about a shot and see how it goes.

Vocalize Score - A player can choose different voices or "blender" (each digit is a random voice) to read his or her score on ScreenEvaluation. This is set to "None" by default. A few of these voices have a few explicit sound files, so use your own discretion!

**TO REMOVE VOICES: In ./Simply Love/Other/Vocalize/, there is a directory for each voice. If you delete a directory, the corresponding voice will no longer show up in the mod menu.

Maybe I'm blind but the download includes no voices. I went to the download link and I only saw:

So where are these voices?

I know I'm necrobumping, but I need a question answered and this is the best place I could find.

I have some graphical glitches concerning the progress bar, the life bar and some fonts, where the background is white and I can't see anything. I'm using Stepmania 5.0.9.

Am I doing something wrong, need to reinstall, redownload the theme, fiddle with settings? Anything is appreciated.

Switch your renderer to opengl. The d3d renderer is not fully supported and lacks some features.
Find Preferences.ini and set VideoRenderers=opengl

Fiddled with the .ini, but still getting this kind of screen:

I'm thankful already for getting a reply, but if I can solve this thing you'll earn my eternal gratitude.

"ITG, The Best Dance Machine!"

There are several new gameplay modifiers, including Subtractive Scoring, a Streamz™ Measure Counter, Column Flashes for Misses, and the ability to hide various UI elements during gameplay.

The Simply Love Options menu now contains the following Theme-wide options:
Allow Players To Fail Set
Number of Continues Allowed (when EventMode is off)
MusicWheel Style (ITG or IIDX)
MusicWheel Scroll Speed
Allow ScreenEvaluationSummary
Allow ScreenNameEntry
Allow ScreenGameOver
Hide Stock Noteskins
Allow Dance Solo

Omg those new features sounds pretty cool. Actually specially "Subtractive Scoring, a Streamz™ Measure Counter, Column Flashes for Misses." I would like from now ask you if I could add some of those features to Metro Quad X, since I have been working so much time on this particulary Theme... I have done so much by myself.

I have moved to GitHub too, cuz I found it a very useful tool. Im gonna test SL now to see how it looks. But I am really interested in some features. Good work as always dbk2.

Yes, you may use these features in your theme. Giving me credit would be nice, as always. And maybe give Kyzentun some thanks, too, since he helped me fix some things that were broken with my Measure Counter. Smile

Git and GitHub take a little bit of time to learn, but I think they are definitely worth learning for long-term coding projects. I'm glad you've started using them.

Thanks you as always, for sure I will give the corresponding credits. All your helps is very apreciated.
