Z-I-v Summer Contest 2014 [CLOSED]

I actually agree that a message stating that pad play is encouraged would be a good thing to add to the front post. As a rule, I do think it is ridiculous because there is no way it could possibly be enforced and would likely discourage participation from many people who do not own PC-compatible pads, people who live in houses/apartments where rigorous play would cause disturbances to neighbors and people who simply enjoy playing pad files on the keyboard. Sure, you can ask why they would participating in a pad tournament, but at the end of the day it's about getting more people in the tournament.

Perhaps the assumption itself is not ridiculous, however, if something is unclear, then there should have been questions asked beforehand. Something like "Pad Play Only" would be a big enough rule to actually list, rather than just assuming everyone understands that you have to play pad, at least from my view.

I appreciate the apology, no hard feelings. I apologize if I came across as too brash in my initial response, I was just a little irked that my name was being brought up in that way.

Thanks for your apology, and I apologize again--those are fair points you've made. My goal was never to exclude people, and yeah, it would have to be an honor-code thing anyway since it is unenforceable.

I think I still prefer to have my pad files judged by people who are using their feet (even other circumstances force people to ghost-step, like ddrstepper does), because feet cant move as fast as fingers can, and you should have to rotate your hips to change from left-foot-forward to right-foot-forward. A good pad file isn't just about a fun rhythm that avoids double-steps; it's also about dancelike body movements and actually using your feet. Again, if I had been playing index style instead of using my pad, I would have found all the files I voted for too boring and voted for completely different files instead. I would have been able to detect doublesteps either way, but that's not the only thing that goes into a good pad file, and voters who are using their keyboards are missing out on all of the other aspects.

So I guess this just isnt the right contest for me to participate in. I want my pad files to be judged by people who are playing on a pad. I think the clarification makes sense, but I have no stake in what you guys do from here on out. I'm sorry I let my frustration get the best of me in some of my replies. I feel like I wasted a lot of hours because I made that incorrect assumption, so I just need some time to get over it. I should've cooled down a little before bringing this up. I really like your idea of saying that "pad play is encouraged" since it wouldnt exclude anyone and would also let newcomers know that some people will be judging using keyboards instead of pads.

Yeah, I do think that's the perfect middle ground solution. Hopefully one of the contest organizers thinks so too and adds it, glad we got that cleared up.

Yeah, most people resize their jackets to 256X256 on the forums. High-res graphics are perfectly fine otherwise.

Here's a track from Rhythm Heaven (DS) a.k.a. Rhythm Tengoku GOLD. Last time we had [Other Music Games] week back in 2012, I stepped a song from RH as well, but that chart was pretty horrible. Hopefully this does a lot better.

Graphics are based on the opening screen for the mini-game, "Blue Birds 2".

xRGTMx wanted me to upload something, so I decided to whip up some quick steps for a special song from the Pump It Up series.

I stepped a Chinese song from the exclusive Chinese version of Pump It Up! NX2, Luo Zhi Xiang's "Mechanical Doll" (羅志祥 - 機器娃娃). Thing is though: all the Chinese songs are all covers made either by Andamiro or most likely hired artists, and at the time they all used recycled BGAs from the pre-Exceed series. It is the reason why I credited this as "Luo Zhi Xiang (Original)" for as Andamiro only credited the original author of the song, and not the author(s) who covered the song.

I prefer this cover over the original anyway since it sounds more kickass. Graphics were remade by me since none of the NX2 Chinese HQ graphics data were released out in the open.

Just wanna point out that 羅志祥's English name is Show Luo.
