Not sure if this would be an easy thing to implement/change in the database but that's one thing that I can't define with any simfiles that I upload is whether it's in DDR/ITG or DDR X+ rating outside of putting it in the comments. A simple checkbox would suffice but I'm not sure if that would be easy to add or not...

You can just put that information in the simfile's description. People are going to be seeing the description when they check out the simfile anyway; if they really must know what the rating type is, they can find it out there.

Would it be category wide or on a per simfile basis?

I'd assume category-wide, since I'm only going to typically do uploads like that in that capacity and I'm pretty sure everyone has their own preference. I doubt many would mix and match unless it's just a conglomeration of every sim you've ever done.
I'd assume category-wide would be easier to implement.
