Discuss how age affects DDR. What is the best age to play, how old are most DDR players you see, and so on.

What is the youngest and oldest people you've ever seen play DDR?

What is the minimum and maximum age someone can be to play DDR "well" (pass most heavy songs.)

I've seen a few kids 7-8 play DDR, and my 54-year-old dad is probably the oldest. He can pass most Light songs.

I have a friend early in his teens I guess... he can nearly pass POSSESSION Heavy and he failed Valkyrie dimension Heavy at the very end. He can PFC several stuff too.

The oldest I've seen is about 32 y.o.. He can PFC 11s.

I'm 17.

When I was... probably 8... I beat MAX300 Heavy for the first time. I probably can't even beat it on Standard now (on the pad). So I might have been the youngest I knew that could play really well.

The oldest is probably... some random guy that I saw at Gameworks the other day. He played X2. Probably about 25.

"Gimme a mothaf----n' break!"
I started playing DDR when I was about 11 or 12. Of course I was not very experienced at that time.

By 13, I already understood how the patterns and rhythms worked and was able to play on Heavy and pass 8 footers and most 9 footers.

16 through 19 I was able to pass some 10s (I think MAX 300 was the first 10 I passed) and could even pass PARANOiA survivor MAX on Challenge on a good day.

From 19 to now (I'm 22), I slightly lost interest in DDR and didn't play it as religiously as I used to, plus I started smoking. Because of that, certain songs that I used to be able to pass or get a good grade on are now different. However, if I go to an arcade and there's a DDR machine in it I will still play it, but my experience with certain songs has definitely changed over the years; some positive, some negative.

When I started playing DDR I was 9. We never had up-to-date machines (I grew with 3rdMIX/4thMIX Solo/5thMIX), so I was stuck playing up to 9s for some years. I can't remember many players from that era, but most (if not all) were older than me.

This situation hasn't changed now (except that we don't have DDR machines anymore, there's just a StepMania machine). I'm currently 21 and everytime that I go to the arcade most of the players are around my age, I guess the youngest that I've seen playing are guys around 17 years old (mainly because the arcade that I use to go doesn't let enter secondary students (or younger) until 6PM).

Oldest I've seen are people around 30 I guess? I rarely talk to people when I go to arcades Tongue

I first played back when ULTRAMIX was first released (whatever age that may be, because I have never been good with age and numbers... or math in general, honestly), and I see no stopping any time soon. Unless, you know, I either get banned from all of the arcades, or my leg finally pops itself out of place.

I started playing when I was 12, and was able to start getting stuff like HVAM, Exotic Ethnic, etc. easily beat on heavy mode by 13 years old. Unfortunately at my arcade, I seem to be one of the more older patrons at 21, though I have met people in their later 20s who play DDR. (I was convinced for about a year that I was the best player in Tulsa, until I met this guy who may be around 26 or so who just EASILY beat me, he was AA'ing and AAA'ing things. He didn't even know that you could get a AAA on SN2 as easy as you could!)

I started late (age 18 in 2001) with a 5thMIX machine inside the old Chinatown Fair. Barely able to pass DAM DARIRAM (KCP MIX) on BASIC. Played sporadically until 2003, when a leg injury (stemming from football) limited my movement. I started playing DDR frequently in 2007, when I met a friend and fellow player at a school I just transferred to. In between classes I'd go across the Manhattan Bridge to Chinatown Fair to get my DDR fix. At 29 now, I don't play as frequent outside the summer since the old Chinatown Fair closed and the closest arcade that's open year-round is deep in Queens.

I'd say the oldest person I've seen play DDR was about 37, but that was at Dave & Buster's in Times Square and he was a bit drunk, so I wouldn't count that...

I don't think age matters too much. As long as someone's willing to work at it, they'll get better. I've been playing for about 11 months, just turned 16 a month ago. I play mostly 9s/10s on single, 8s on double, and I started to AA/AAA songs a few months ago. It's all about practise, I guess Puppy Face

Oldest couple is probably the 70+ Year old one I links a while back. They pass Expert level songs.

Edit> Oops, ledgam3r1279 already linked it...I'll just leave the URL here instead of embedding it again

From my own side, my son is 2 and passed his first DDR song recently in the arcade (Everytime We Touch Beginner)

I'm 36 and can PFC songs up to around 15/16 on the X-Scale (I have one "17", FLOWER Challenge Double...though even I would say that is pretty easy for a "17")

...and I have one MFC (Dynamite Rave "Air" Special)

http://aaronin.jp/snaaa/aaronmfcdraveod.jpg

My friend Akudaikan (Mori-san) is 44 (+/- 1 year if I missed his birthday) and he can pass most heavy songs (almost everything up to an X-Scale 15 give or take) and PFC a number of them, too (the easier ones) though he excels at MA and has a few MFCs under his belt on Light mode.

I think I can boldly say that no two year old in the United States could ever pass a song on DDR ever. Unless they are extremely gifted.

You have an awesome two year old!

I started when I was 17, my first DDR was SuperNOVA2 CS. And now I'm 22 and I don't think I'll ever stop playing DDR.

The think the future of DDR being played by all of us at age 60+ will be quite hilarious and I can't wait to be a part of it.

I started DDR when I was 6-7 y.o. When DDR 2nd MIX out at PlayStation. I stop for 10 years until 2007 when DDR SuperNOVA2 was out. And I start playing frequently until recent days. Now I'm 21 but I just play casually (mostly for exercising). The oldest one that I've ever see is around 30 y.o.

I personally started when I was 9 in April 2003. By mid summer I was full comboing easy light songs, and around September of that year I passed my first heavy song (Gentle Stress on DDR MAX). By the time I turned 10 that December, I was doing harder songs on heavy pretty consistently, and I passed MAX 300 Heavy sometime in 2004. I quit playing from around May 2005 when I was 11 until January 2007 when I was 13. I played pretty consistently until this year when I went through a period of extreme depression. I'm starting to play again, though. I'm currently 18. It's really hard to believe I've been doing this for almost 10 years now.

The youngest person I've seen doing hard songs was around 9 years old when I met him. His name is Liam and I'm not sure if he still plays. Oldest is about 30 maybe?

I'm 18 but I started playing around a decade ago. Though I didn't understand how people were so good at it back then and that I go crazy at first. Quite a beginner's experience, don't you think? But then the reason why I play DDR is because of the music.

In order for me to do better in the game, all I did is just study the the difficult stepcharts and practice via PS2. Though I went crazy using my Dualshock (lol) and got FCs, I still couldn't match my skill level using pad because of energy and stamina drainage.

However, I did have a huge break from it around June 2006 - March 2010 (wow. such a long time) because of my studies but when I came back, I can already pass difficult Heavy stepcharts (around 9 footers)

As of today, I think I can only pass up to a 14 or 15 X-rating stepchart. Even though one the bounce Challenge, CHAOS Challenge and Pluto Challenge should seem like great challenges for me to try someday but for those fast BPM 15 stepcharts. I could barely make it (though I only passed PARANOiA SurvivorHeavy ONCE but I always try harder in order to pass the grandfather of 10 footers, MAX 300)

I played DDR for the first time when I was 5, and I remember it was a DDR MAX. But I wasn't very good, I remember I used to play songs from Beginner to Light and some in Standard . The PS2 wasn't mine, it was from a cousin, who left argentina when I was 6, so I couldn't play DDR anymore Cry But 2 years ago I bought my own PS2 and I started playing DDR again, with DDR supernova 2, and then playing the others.

I started to play DDR when I was 6 to 7 years old, it all started when my mother bought a plastic dance pad and DDR Extreme (US). During that time, I managed to clear some of the easy basic, but not difficult. Here is my timeline below;

6 years old :
-Started on DDR
-First song played was B4U (Beginner)

7 years old :
-Almost to clear all beginner
-Started on Basic
-Begin to target some songs ( Forgotten )

8 years old :
-Almost to clear all basic
-Started on Difficult
-One of hardest song was The Legend of Max, which was my ultimate target
-Realise there was speed mods when I hold the selection button

9-10 years old :
-Started to play on the Arcades
-Almost to clear all Difficult
-Started on Expert, but was very tiring

11 years old :
-Bought SN/2, X (JP)

12 years old :
-Bought a PS3 and the dance pad ( it was so weak )
-Sold away my PS2 with those games..
-Passed Pluto Relinquish Difficult

13 years old :
-Passed most of Boss songs ( mostly 13-15 difficulty )

14 years old ( now ) :
-Passed most of 16s difficulty

Currently my biggest achievement is I've passed DeltaMAX (ESP)

I started to play when I was 15 (with a dance mat and StepMania, started to play in arcade just months ago since I got a better-paying part time job lol), and now I'm 17. Barely able to pass 13s (sakura storm Challenge ) and easier 14s (Konoko no Nanatsu no Oiwai ni Heavy ) though, but I have no problem PFCing stuffs until 7/8, singles or doubles (not that it's worth mentioning, but whatever). Playing mostly for the songs though (I love Asaki and starting to like kors k and Ryu*'s works), so no real target set for this time being, in regards of playing harder songs.
