I managed to edit half of the songs with low quality samples/previews in the songs themselves, accurate to the arcade does due to data limitations.

Is there anyway on modding the SRC files??

Behold, ripped graphics in ScreenGameplay!

@beware Is it possible to add the announcer and crowd cues for the songs and custom songs as well? I feel like it would be coded depending on how fast the song is/ how slow it is .. EX: 5.1.1 The announcer plays twice and the Crowd cheers/boos only once in the song.. Have a look here: https://sndup.net/29x6/511.ogg

Awesome work on encoding the proper cues for the ScreenGameplay assets!
I've always been bothered by their being shown immediately when a song starts.

Hi all. New to this site, and @beware: Amazing job on DDR Extreme! And wow, this thread has been alive for 8 years!

I've just gotten back into DDR and play with my wife. We noticed that playing with beware's extreme version with two dance mats, if the same directions are pressed simultaneously on each pad, often only one input will get through. This can be seen on the Test Input screen by jumping on the same directionals at the same time. This drove me crazy trying to figure out what was happening.

I tried gzy's r4 and it has the same problem. However, a Party Collection skin running on 3.9 doesn't have this issue.

I have a couple of the cheap and common USB dance mats I bought about 5 years ago, which I mod slightly to make them playable. Sodial or Ostent brand.

Anyway, has anyone else had this problem or can suggest a fix? I really want to play THIS VERSION! Big Grin

Thanks!

Oh and I'm not sure but Kiss Kiss Kiss Single Heavy and Irresistiblement Double Heavy may need fixing?

I noticed they both had a missing or messed up freeze arrow. Kiss Kiss Kiss is also using 12th beats (or approximations of 12ths) for that one section right before the 16th gallops. Is it supposed to be like that, or is it supposed to be the typical 4th -> 16th -> 8th -> 4th pattern that is present in so many songs (like El Ritmo Tropical)? The simfile here on ZiV uses the latter, but I wasn't sure if it was something that had been one way in DDREX arcade and later "fixed" in subsequent games.

Can you determine if there is a pattern to this? I looked at a few songs in MAME, and it seems like the first announcer cue was on the 13th measure (or 52nd beat). It might have been a coincidence, but if the cues just follow a pattern, that would be significantly less tedious to implement. Otherwise, someone would have to go and insert the cues in the appropriate spots for all 240 song files. Then, we would have to add support in Stepmania to read this data.

Does this only happen with pads? I couldn't reproduce the issue with a keyboard and controller. If I press left for both (one is used for player 1 and the other player 2), both seem to register in test input.

Yes you are absolutely correct, it follows a pattern on every 14th measure. Went back in SM to make sure. What measures would the crowd cues be in?

So I'm finding my way back into DDR just like everyone else, and finding this was like a dream come true, however I'm having a problem that I can't find an answer to... when I launch SM on my laptop, it works fine, but then when I connect an HDMI out to stream to the TV, I get video but no audio.

I have an install of SM5 that works fine, and even uninstalling that didn't seem to make any difference. I've downloaded pretty much every build listed in this thread and they all seem to have the same issue. Running Windows 10,

Here's a dump of my info.txt: Any suggestions would be highly appreciated!

Hi Neko, I think this is only happening because the dance mats are exactly the same and the buttons are the same. My guess is that the joystick driver is confused. The same dance mats, when pressing different directionals simultaneously, works properly.

Devilon, have you tried "r4" that gzy posted in post #189? That one works for me.

I have the same problem with beware's original r3 - I have to task switch away and back to it for it to show on a second screen.

@gzy I should also mention on the last beat of the song, the announcer and crowd cues end as well.

It warms my soul to see this alive again. gzy, thanks for your efforts. I'll be interested to see the results. The only one of your changes I'm not sure of is removing the hidden Challenge charts on songs like Love Shine, etc. I understand why (it's arcade accurate), but I enjoy being able to select those charts without having to break the game like I did "back in the day" on the AC version.

I have the same problem with beware's original r3 - I have to task switch away and back to it for it to show on a second screen.

That's the one I tried last night with no success.

I've got video, but no audio. When I disconnect my HDMI and go back to just my laptop, I have video and audio on my laptop.

There's a line that shows "Couldn't load driver DirectSound: no hardware buffers available" in my log, but I can't find any information on that exact error message. Just didn't know if anyone else had run into the issue as well.

I checked all the most obvious stuff, that my sound drivers were working, the output isn't muted, volume levels are all set correctly, etc.

Here's the really odd thing: it worked one time when I first downloaded it, then when I came back to run it again, it never worked again. I've redownloaded multiple times, as well as uninstalled my SM5 to see if there was a conflict somewhere, but all signs point to no.

EDIT 1: So it seems that what I have to do with this install is launch it, wait for the audio to start, then connect my HDMI. Seems to work okay after that, however I have no sync calibration in the Input menu. How can I calibrate for the delay in my setup?

EDIT 2: Did some experimenting between my SM5 install and this one, and ended up pulling the offset out of Preferences.ini in the SM5 install. It gets it closer, but there's definitely a delay between the two, I'm sure because of the difference in screen resolutions and what have you. If there's a way to get sync calibration for this install, I'd love to know how!

Unfortunately, I'm not sure how to resolve your audio issues with HDMI. The fact that SM 5 is not having the issue isn't too surprising though. Remember that beware's Extreme is based off of SM 3.9 which is a very old version. I haven't looked at it, but I would guess that SM 5 uses newer directx and or other low level drivers that would probably work a lot better with your setup. That's not to say it can't be made to work though.

As far as sync issues, it's not exactly clear to me what you are referring to. Are you referring to the steps not matching up to the music exactly? If so, have you played with the GlobalOffsetSeconds parameter in the Stepmania.ini file (under the Data folder)? It might require some trial and error, but try to adjust the value a little and test it until it feels like it matches. If instead, you are referring to latency between when you press a button/step and when it registers, then I'm not sure.

I also noticed a few more details in the arcade.

Sorting
Sorting has two sounding effects, this is played when sorting in GENRE - ABC.. https://sndup.net/8fbt/MusicWheel+sort+1.ogg
This played SORTING from BPM - Best..: https://sndup.net/2yk3/MusicWheel+sort+2.ogg

Sorting also resets the samples as well with a small delay for the samples to play when sorting is done.

MusicWheel Samples
Skipping through the songwheel allows the samples to play over each other.

Smoother song wheel
the song wheel is more smoother and doesn't make the song wheel sound choppy in SM..

Samples Reset

Samples re-play when being sorted and re-selected as well..

EDIT Selection in SongWheel
The edit selection would be a nice feature to see implemented

I'm okay with the audio issue of me having to manually plug in my HDMI in every time, it's also understood that SM3.9 could just not like my audio drivers on my laptop, so I'll deal with doing that as a workaround.

The sync issues I mentioned is how in SM5, there is an option to Calibrate Audio Sync under the options menu that will basically play a downbeat with nothing but left and right arrows, and it will use that to adjust your GlobalOffsetSeconds automatically. As it's been a while since I've messed with SM in general, I didn't know if there was another way to automatically (or manually, didn't there used to be a key that would basically bump the offset back or forward by a few ms?) adjust things.

NekoNekoMata. I want to do you a favor.

You could do a project with Stepmania to make an accurate simulation of the beatmania, beatmania IIDX and pop'n music AC games.

The games that I want to see recreated in Stepmania are the following:

beatmania III;
-beatmania III
-beatmania III APPEND CORE REMIX
-beatmania III APPEND 6thMIX
-beatmania III APPEND 7thMIX
-beatmania III THE FINAL

beatmania IIDX;
-beatmania IIDX
-beatmania IIDX substream
-beatmania IIDX 2nd style
-beatmania IIDX 3rd style
-beatmania IIDX 4th style
-beatmania IIDX 5th style
-beatmania IIDX 6th style
-beatmania IIDX 7th style
-beatmania IIDX 8th style

pop'n music;
-pop'n music 4
-pop'n music 5
-pop'n music 6
-pop'n music 7
-pop'n music 8
-pop'n music 9
-pop'n music 10
-pop'n music 11
-pop'n music 12 Iroha
-pop'n music 13 Carnival
-pop'n music 14 FEVER!
-pop'n music Animelo
-pop'n music Animelo 2

With this you could push the beat and popn game modes to the limit.

In addition, these games that are on the list are so far unplayable in MAME and some are playable but with various bugs. And in the case of pop'n music 10, 11, Iroha, Carnival and FEVER. No one could dump those games to be able to play them in emulator.
beatmania IIDX and pop'n music need more love too
