I still don't get Sig's defense of DDR PS3 to this day. An average songlist is fine but the theme is boring and *every single change to the gameplay was terrible*. Nobody asked for the dumb Groove Chain bullshit or whatever it was called. It made any vaguely challenging charts just a total mess.
The downfall of console DDR versions is not complex nor is it because a specific version was bad. All peripheral based rhythm games were crashing during the early 2010s. They were a fad and the genre itself is niche now. Just accept that.
But seriously, DDR PS3 is BAD. Name any other mix that makes so many unnecessary changes to DDR gameplay without a single /good/ one.

I'm not a huge fan of the newer DDR and beatmania IIDX games.

they need to stop farting out IIDX games every year and just make a new one every 1.5-2 years instead because boy is it showing they're mass-producing these games

They've been doing that ever since the start. From 1998 to 2002 there were eight mainline arcade DDR games, a console equivalent for each of them, several spinoffs like the Solo series and the two Dancing Stage branded ones, console exclusive ones like Extra Mix and Konamix... And the same goes for Beatmania.
I'd love for them to space out releases more, but I doubt it has ANYTHING to do with why people who liked older Bemani games don't like newer ones. It was even worse back then when it comes to short turnaround time.

Me personally if I had my way, I had this idea for a while of just one style with one central theme that refreshes every 1 to 2 years that has longevity that no one minds being around for a long time and Konami progressively just funneling in new content every month or so in huge batches. Or alternately I agree to changing it up every 2 years to put more effort into the design of the interfaces, better animations and deeper theming, more unique movies for each song instead of recycling generics like what DJMAX does(They make a unique movie for every song in the game, not one is a generic movie), it would be a pleasant change.

I never understood why Konami stuck with this cyber aesthetic for so long. It got tired after so many years, which is why I'm glad Happy Sky bucked the trend finally.

For me, the frequent releases aren't really the problem, but more so with the music and the gameplay. OG beatmania (and like IIDX 1st style and substream) felt like you were actually a club DJ adding sound effects to songs and when you scratched the turntable it actually sounded like... a turntable rather than just another button. In the newer IIDX games, it just feels like your playing the melody of the song. Which isn't that bad, it allows for more of a challenge, but I feel like the whole "club DJ" feel of the older games is pretty much nonexistent now. The songs too imo are fine, but I've always liked the older stuff better. There are definitely some great songs in the later games too, but sometimes I feel like they blend together.

^Speaking of, five fathoms is still the best licensed song in any Bemani game.

Uh La La La is not as bad as people appear to say it is. It's not good, granted, but I think any Worst Chart Evers being flung towards it are a bit of a reach.
My controversial opinion is that Uh La La La is a good chart. Any chart that's fun to play is good imo. I actually enjoy playing that song and think it's very fun to play. For me it's more important that a chart is interesting and fun to play than for everything in the chart to make sense, if that makes sense..

From all the info I’ve been seeing, DanceDanceRevolution GRAND PRIX seems like a colossal waste of time and money.

Some of it isn’t entirely Bemani but idc. Sorry if it’s too long or bad
• Just because a level is hard doesn’t mean the level is good, just because the song is 500BPM Hardcore Speedcore doesn’t mean it’s good
• Most people in the rhythm game community make the exact same unfunny jokes over and over again
• Pop’n Music is underrated
• The US Mobile versions of Reflec Beat and Jubeat are garbage, only 3 songs and are forced to pay for everything else
• The fact that Sound Voltex children are drawn in revealing outfits (Rasis is like 14) is messed up.
• The fact that most SDVX male characters actually look cool while most female characters are fanserviced is lame.
• If they officially bring Bemani games to the US without replacing every song maybe they won’t be dying. It would be best to have both the original songs and American songs, not just one or the other.
• Companies shouldn’t call it an International release if it’s only China and Korea
• Pop’n music has too much characters, which wouldn’t be a problem if they just gave them all the attention they deserve
• Otocadoll is such a good concept, but they never update it and wonder why nobody plays it. They did it with A LOT of games
• The PC ports look cool, but are too expensive and look like a hassle to download. You don’t need $100 DLC and a $15/month subscription for something that can be free. Pick one, or don’t make payments at all.
• Konami should’ve never made N,F,T’s. Hoping that there’s no Bemani N,F,T’s, ever
• Just because a level is hard doesn’t mean the level is good, just because the song is 500BPM Hardcore Speedcore doesn’t mean it’s good

I want more sexy guys in my games instead of all of it being questionably aged girls. For some reason Konami, like a lot of game companies, doesn't seem to realize there's a market for that. Like, why the fuck do they THINK all these k-pop groups full of 18 to 20 year old hot guys with insane makeup and hair are getting popular? For MUSIC?

Japan is not a particularly LGBTQ+ friendly country, and I'm assuming most SDVX players there are not women, so they are not going to show a ton of barely-legal men to their primarily male audience.

I dunno, there seems to at least be a sub-culture in Japan about fetishing gay dudes. Starts with a y, ends with an i, y'know? Maybe that's just not mainstream enough over there for the leeches to suddenly jump on yet.

Yeah I know yaoi is a thing, I'm just saying that if SDVX is catering to a largely straight male audience in Japan (which I assume it does), they are going to show what straight men in Japan want.

Okay but DOA caters far more to that straight male audience and has Jan Lee and Ein and they’re fucking hot as hell. And Zack fucking rocks some obscene shit. For Street Fighter, Ryu saw a surge in popularity after his battle costume dropped early on and was nicknamed “Hot Ryu” which every straight SF player calls it that and it is now his default look for SF6.
It’s crazy I know but sexy men sell games to straight men.
