"Revolution"
I gotta say, I think the expression of our opinions is actually kinda healthy and gets us discussing things that maybe we couldn't/wouldn't discuss before. Now onto my responses.

This one is hard, but I propose that they instead "hide" the songs that other people don't want to hear. 4thMix did this best with their categories, with a little bit of clever tagging, you can have a personal songlist of songs that you prefer, with none of the moe, generic soundbyte Bemani transplant song or the bland R&Bs and ballads that are unfitting for the arcade.
The only issue I have here is maybe just how I hear this when I say it out loud.
"The songs that other people don't want to hear"
"with none of the [songs] that are unfitting for the arcade"
Even if you're playing IIDX, when did you become the arcade's unpaid DJ, and why are you considering songs based on if your potential audience will or won't like them? Play what you want; you put in the credits, right?

unlock everything here through System Data.
I'm actually surprised this was only a JP DDR thing, unless I'm mistaken. Maybe NA/EU had slightly more enjoyable unlock processes?

But working exclusively with the Dancemania licenses also meant a certain sort of cohesion in the songlist. I absolutely can't stand the Happy Paradise songs, but a mix like DDRMAX has a distinct... vibe, for lack of a better word, where newer mixes take a more mixed bag approach. There's nothing wrong with that, but I think it could play into people not romanticizing the new licenses the same way they do the old ones. You might have a favorite song here or there now, but I think there's definitely a reason people discuss the Dancemania licenses as a collective. Regardless of their individual quality, the relative consistency made them greater than the sum of their parts and they felt like a complete package that would literally define the game. That doesn't mean everything needs to come from the same label to be cohesive.
Certainly. I forgot to say it before, but this is how I feel, and I would say it shows in the nonstop megamixes. We need more of those, and not just for DDR. If I had the means, I'd try making them myself.

Quote: mageman17
I also hate how Konami has consistently missed the boat on licensing good music. I really really wanted "Get This Party Started" and "Lose Control" to be in a DDR game.
Quote: Quickman
If they're to have more western songs, they need western songs with actually fast and/or complex beats to them. I'm kind of tired of all their western songs being the beginner-level, no-effort-required charts. They should totally think about getting some more underground artists that have something to show the next time they think about getting Western licenses. The underground scene was practically the best part of all the soundtracks of the games of the early 2000s, anyway.
I mentioned it in the A20+ thread, but knowing what BEMANI's licensing freedom is (with the budget) along with the sound directors' considerations would answer a lot of questions. I would say that DDR, at the very least, needs to be experimental again even if the songs are from the "collectively unpopular" genres ya haters.
Music is always running in my mind... Everyday, songs old and new come to mind.
...
I wonder how a DJ Hero-esque mix of an AFRONOVA medley and Fascination MAXX would sound...

The Wii games did this as well, though I really wish they did it for the Xbox games too.

The Xbox games all have unlock all codes done from the 4th player controller port. Combine that with a soft mod and the DLC installers and you can pick those 4 games up and have hundreds of songs right off the bat.

This is a nuclear take, but... I'm nostalgic for shit charts full of sloppily placed green and orange arrows.

Not for playing, of course, they were worthless to play even back then. What I miss is the sense of accessibility, knowing that any random teen with a Zim t-shirt could download the game and start sharing their creations for other people to hopefully enjoy. And whaddaya know, in 2006 I was a random teen with a Zim t-shirt. I felt great uploading to FFR database even though they were pretty crap. I don't really make charts anymore. Stepmania charters are now older and more talented on average, and every file coming out is competently synced and charted. Makes me feel like no one would accept my FFR-level skills anymore.
So glad The Cheat is not dead.

In this vein, the menagerie of MAX remixes, mashups, and everything in between. I remember loading up CD-Rs with the things to listen to in the car on my CD player when I was a kid, hahaha.

"Just Play Along"
Bump or something idk just wanna vent

I can't stand those annoying robotic vocals U1 puts into so many U1 overground songs now. The only good one is Dopamine. Every other instance is just annoying. Examples: Endorphins, Starlight Fantasia (Endorphins Mix), Hunny Bunny, ANNIVERSARY, Seta Para Cima, Never See You Again. It's like Splatoon but bad

Aside from that, I hate when the vocalists are literally just talking during a portion of the song, or they sample regular talking. Example: Haunted maid lunch, Cirno's Perfect Math Class, SPECIAL SUMMER SALE, EDM Jumpers, every Prim song probably. Like please just stfu lmao

"five minute white boy challenge"
The "squeaky anime girl rambling" trope during songs needs to die and die yesterday.

Approximately nobody asked for this song to be included. Least popular decision by the Japanese since Nintendo released the Wii U.

Ok, first of all, unless you understand what's being said and the context behind why the talking is put in the songs, there's really no reason to complain about it, we're not the target market for this stuff so how could we understand why right? Cirno's Perfect Math Class the talking is there because they're making fun of the blue fairy because she is a bully in the Touhou world always causing trouble and when she wants to teach her class no one takes her seriously. Most of the dialogue in these denpa songs besides the singing have a meaning behind them that's part of the culture of the stuff the songs are from or what the references are. It's not just senseless annoying babbling for the sake of being annoying. Most of us don't get it and it's a cultural thing that we're not a part of, so I don't think it's very fair to assume it's just being annoying when something deeper is going on that you obviously don't get. As for U1's vocal samples, I don't find them annoying, majority of them fit the tracks, but to each their own, you're entitled to your opinion there, but as for rambling in denpa stuff like Prim, Special Summer Sale and others, there's deeper things going on that you don't understand and references that are present that are catered to the markets and communities they're in, so you don't get it, so I don't think it's fair to just say "STFU it's so annoying!" without getting the reason why it's there in the first place. Be a little more open minded there.

Did you like, miss the point of this whole thread? You took this post far too seriously. I have a few things I feel the need to point out here.

1. This thread exists for the purpose of discussing opinions that a large number of people may or may not agree with, and what you said in your last post comes off as "you just don't get it, so your opinion sucks".
2. You don't need to understand the songs in question to find them annoying. You could find them annoying for literally any reason, and it's your opinion that you find them annoying.
3. A lot of denpa songs were indeed made for specific markets and communities, sure. But for that exact reason, you could always say they don't quite belong in every BEMANI game ever created. I don't think it's fair to say to others just to "be more open-minded" about them when they had to tolerate it in their favorite games for however long, whatever those games may be.

You're right, you made some valid points, and I was annoyed and I apologize if it came off as way too serious. I could have worded some things better, and I'm sorry if I stepped on some toes.

I'll put this out there.

I am REALLY not liking that generic approach to Dance Rush's new jackets for the commissioned artists. It's been going on since 2020's Spark Festival (specifically Shamsir's jacket onwards. Dive In Blue's and Like This's weren't "generic" yet based on its typography). Why did "Otias ENT produced" have to exist and emphasize on visuals only and not include fun typography on the jackets and song wheel anymore? And leave that only to the BEMANI Sound Team songs (which are rare(r?))? If you've checked the game's song wheel, you might have an idea on what I'm talking about.
