Zenius-I-vanisher Stepmania Tournament 2011

I didn't undersand 100% of the first post but i guess i'm in (and i think it will be more clear after i'm in).

It reminds me in some way some "games" that i started to create for the arcade (never finished it, only ideas and writed few stuff on .txt).
I put it in spoiler since i'm top paged and this is a bit off topic.

I used points or levels + xp (even stats like atack/hp and skills), arrows (was like stars, unlock stuff). I kind of started 3 versions at least because i was always searching for the best stuff. [removed large part explaining a game that could be confusing and also because i explain an other one later, it's too much]
I also tested out a lot of easy chart on the computer to see what could be nice to play for a beginner (like Long Train Runnin Basic lol). My goal was to make something where everyone can join and try some songs that they never thing about while still having fun.

I did other versions a lot more simplified or just think like this : 3 paths (hard, medium, easy), 5 challenges to play in order with or without restrictions (on each challenge you have can choose beetween a challenge or an other one). You have 3 lives, you can switch paths to go on a easier one if you fail. Goal is to go at the end. Amout of points receveided a the end depending on the goal and amout of lives remaining.

For exemple, a player choose the hard path. Clear H1 first try, fail H2, choose to go on medium, clear M2, fail M3 twice, no life left, he choose to go on the easy path and reach the goal without failing. He ends with 20points (no life bonus because he lost all lifes).

Result : Easy Goal = 20points
Life bonus : Number of life remaining x Difficulty Clear (1, 2 or 3) x 5 = 0 (in this case. Max is 3 x 3 x 5 = 45).

Each level as two different challenges (cause not everyone likes this or that). For exemple M3 would be "clear Un Deux Trois Expert with a score higher than 85%" or "Full combo Horatio difficult".

I think the 2 things that made me not doing this is the lack of regular players and motivation from them where i play.
I had idea like this 2 years ago but it was already too late.
I might try this someday at the arcade because it could be done in a night and after the night, it's over.
Also, it's possible to keep the same style but change the challenges and cumulate the points from months to an other.

Anyway, i'm kind of off topic but i just wanted to share this. And also tell that project like this one on stepmania are sweet (same for the stepchart contest that we have on ziv).

By the way, i'm in. I'll suck on stepmania but i'll be fun :)
Also we can keep defaut theme + sm3.95, i don't mind. Max2 scoring is bugging but there is already so many stuff in the rules, let's keep this.
And yes, some can cheat, change life difficulty or the metrics, play more than the allowed attemps... but they do what they want. I'll play fair anyway, like always. I guess no-one here (only Aegis :*) will cheat :)

not unless if i get elminated right off the bat. it would be nice if I could do a dry run at this to see if I'm comfortable to do this, but i highly dobut that this will be permitted. yes I read the rules and its the best score of 3 attempts, but I'm thinking of something else. also if i do this then i have to copy some of the files back to SM 3.9 (this is no big, i'm just saying).

Since it seems most people use SM 5 I will make SM 5/default the standard for the tournament. This is also the case for judgement level issues. And I will PM a test round from the beta. Anyone else who wants a test round PM me.

Just install 3.9 and set up AdditionalSongFolders.

guess like i should set up an addtional folder for any songs I don't have.

There is a question I have and forgot to ask.

If i were to purchase an item from the store would i have to re-purchase every round or would I be able to keep the purchase? I feel that this would be a small pain if I have re-purchase every round.

Yes you have to repurchase every round, but you'll be getting points and stars every round as well.

I think that we should be able to use any version of SM as long as it has MAX2 scoring.
Like hell am I going to switch to SM5 just for this.

Yeah, SM5 doesn't even have MAX2 scoring. And it defaults on Judge 5. SM3.9 defaults on Judge 4.

Either way I need to be able to see what judge level people are using. Scoring method does not have to be specific when it comes to type. As long as you use SM 5, default theme, default judgement level, and default scoring you should be okay. Everyone needs to have the EXACT same settings. Only settings that don't effect your score or the results screen can be personalized. Such as solo singles. You may use that because it won't alter the stepchart or your score.

I don't want to install SM5 -_-. It doesn't save simfiles properly

But since we're playing a new song every day I'll just hold off on stepping things until the tournament ends.
