This is my story. I was playing Dance Maniax and I was playing Ain't It Good on Mild. Then a little boy accidentally hit the lower right sensor, disrupting me and missing my combo. The mom saw him and they left. I still passed, though. I remained calm and didn't get mad

"He's coming!"
I think I'm lucky with this. The only thing I've had is people on the other pad when I'm playing singles on PIU and getting their practice in before their go (which usually tires them out). I chose Cleaner S18 even though back then, I only played PIU like twice in my life. I got a D with more perfects than bads/misses. The pros were like "wut" and the girl that was getting her practice was like "What in the fuck?"

Moral of the story: I'm going to play Cleaner S18 at 80% Rush! :3

When I was playing upstairs for DDR in the bay area one day, a bunch of little kids skip through me and yodel like they are maniacs.

Due to my light weight, I don't play DDR machines a lot. But, I do play the home versions. On the contrary, I do like to watch people play, because there aren't many pros in my area.

I was playing Pluto Heavy, then I tied my shoes, suddenly a kid presses the green button and blarh, playing Pluto Heavy Twice in a row.

This is why I double tie my laces (After tying one knot, take the ribbon and form a second know with it). Neutral

The amusing thing is, I don't really have many problems with the smaller children. Usually I can just glare at them and they get the point. On the other hand, it seems that all of the obnoxious high school girls annoy me instead. I've had panels stepped on, I've been asked for french fries (in an arcade that doesn't have food) and money, I've been yelled at, and I have even had one who decided that the side of the pad I was using was a high school dance and began to dance as such.

Ugh. Do not want. And they don't go away, no matter what I say.

@The above conversation: On a side note, I've seen a fairly even distribution of races in my time playing.

Smaller children annoy me, period. Especially at Seafood City at City Island, NY. Strangely enough, out of all of the locations I normally play at, that one is the only location I actually have that type of problem in. Sportime USA & Funfuzion, despite being overpriced, are the two places I seem to find credits left in the machine(s) at the most.

This goes beyond DDR, this is a general rule that everyone should follow. I honestly think you'll save yourself several months of re-tying shoes throughout the course of your life.

A pair of Puma H-Streets I always use for DDR/ITG rarely ever require retying. Since the laces are so long, I manage to tie them at least three times, so that definitely saves months of re-tying for sure. But if in any case they ever come untied during a song (which they almost never do), I try to spread my feet a bit farther apart, to prevent stepping on the laces.

One big problem I used to have was when I used to play on an ITG2 machine at Catskill Laser Tag in West Nyack NY (location is now long gone for at least two years). Back when I was only starting to pass 10s on that machine, sometimes the jeans I would wear were too long, get stepped on, and sometimes get caught on any loose bolts sticking out of the brackets. I never failed anything from that problem, but the snagging sure was annoying. It never happens to me anymore for some reason.

Lucky for me, there's not very many people where I play, at all. It's sometimes completely dead. But one time not to long ago, I did step on a little kids' hand while playing and didn't say anything because I was too focused on trying to PA my song.

And as far as the shoe thing goes, I always double-tie knot my shoes and it significantly reduces the number of times I have to re-tie them. But somehow on the harder/faster songs, they seem to somehow get untied. It annoys the crap out of me, so I sometimes just take off my shoes and play socked or barefoot. Plus I tend to slip & slide more often when I play with my shoes on. (My shoes are old and lost much of it's traction, not to mention the panels often times have loose dirt on them).

Speaking of loose dirt, the last time I played at Funfuzion NY, wearing my H-Streets playing PIU Pro, the pads started to get slippery as I progressed throughout each song (the death run on Heel & Toe on CZ 9 had me sliding all over the place, yet I somehow still passed it -_-). I spotted loose dirt on the pads after the last song. After transferring to DDRSN2 (someone left a game, but it was already on the selection for the second song & on Doubles), the sliding was even worse. I eventually realized that the dirt was coming from my Pumas (I never use them for anything but dancing games; there should be no way that dirt is getting on them), not the pads.

I forgot to mention that sometimes I don't realize that my shoes are untied until A) I'm in the middle of the song, or B) When the stage timer runs low or song is already selected and beginning to start. Then I have to rush to tie them and sometimes I fail to tie them before the first arrow approaches. That also makes me mad because then I can't FC that song. Annoyed But it doesn't happen very often.

This stuff always happens whenever I would go to the arcade here in Cagayan de oro City, but rarely when I was still in California Big Grin

In CDO, whenever I would play DDR, there are people watching me play as if they think I am crazy (most especially some of my schoolmates who pass by there). After playing a song in Heavy or Challenge, I may hear some weird complements from strangers about me. I don't it at all, but what pisses me off a bit is seeing kids (YES THE KIDS!!) jumping all wild on the 1P side (I use the 2P side since the 1P side was broken :/). Of course it's a common problem for all DDR players over the world, but what ticks me off more is a group of guys (around my age or older and looking "ghetto") watching me play because it gives me that feeling that they would do something to me like beat me up for no damn reason, just call me to do something stupid and most of all, laugh like Hyenas when they see me do a difficult chart.

To make some of these matters worse, I always carry my bag and iPod, but I just lay them aside when playing. Of course, I use my iPod to picture my results, but I have a strange feeling that those kids may take it away while I am in a middle of a song (even if my bag and iPod were in front of me). If they did, I would have chased their asses in order to save my stuff, however, those kids would also use up my last two stages acting like monkeys in the zoo (most especially if the chosen difficulty is Heavy or Challenge.)

That's why sometimes I feel a bit safe playing in California than in CDO because the last time I played in California, the Century Theater arcade that I played in rarely has people going to the Starcade (the only game that I would play over there is DDR X of course) Big Grin So it goes to show that some DDR players would prefer to play in peace and without children or crazy people getting in their way.

Times like these I'm thankful that some mall guards actually tell the kids to stop bothering the players and somewhat pull them away from the machine. Those kids won't leave the pads and they distract the players and get stepped on as karma.

From what you said there, there is actually a department store near the arcade and if there are entrances, there are guards. However, last time I was there (which was 2-3 years ago), the nearest guard I approached to was actually located near the movie theater, which is a few stores away from the arcade since there wasn't one near the entrance. Of course you would know why I had to go to that guard back then.

Yes. The arcade is near the mall's entrance.

And I had to rephrase my post. That quote doesn't make any sense. Oops

"girl is very beautifu"

The Fiesta at my Dave and Busters is right next to the Bar area, so we end up getting to know the bartenders and they're pretty cool. Sometimes they even swipe there special "I'm an employee and I haz unlimited credits lololol" cards. I find nothing really happens thats distracting over there (except for the very occasional drunk), but where I play DDR there's ALWAYS something.

Sometimes I get little kids trying to run across the pads when I'm doing Doubles, sometimes I get sneers from these teenage douchebags that feel the need to laugh at me because , I don't know, they're jealous of my feet or something, sometimes the parents of the kid who put his hand under my foot tries to convince me it's my fault her childs hand is going to hurt for like, five freaking minutes, sometimes these stupid chicks put in like 7 BAJILLION credits and think they can just play for a half an hour and I'm just like (myfacewhen.com/3/), sometimes people just assume they can start playing even though I'm in the middle of a song, some people assume it's ok to shadow me while I'm trying to PFC something-seriously guys, ask first,, sometimes those teenage douchebags decide it's a good idea to mock me by screwing around on the other pad (and I trip themPuppy Face)and uh, that's about it. Yep.

On the upside, I got to DDR at my schools international day and everyone genuinely thought it was cool.

Edit: I think I just summed up 80% of this thread in one paragraph.

And then there's this.

Me playing doubles. Some stupid kid stand on the right pad.
Girl: Hey, I'll help you with the arrows.
Me: Hey, get out of there!
Girl: No, I'm going to help you.
Me: Get out of there if you don't want to get stomped!
Girl leaves after three seconds.

This is worse than kids who run to the pad.

I don't mind kids, aside from toddlers who wander onto the pad in the middle of a song. Like, not even the ones who walk on the pad to screw around, but the real tiny ones who can hardly talk. Those are the ones I'm always most afraid of accidentally kicking.

I've actually ran into those types before. It's not stupidity so much as outsiders don't tend to realize that the game's foundation is different from whack-a-mole. Someone who isn't familiar with the fact that all of the steps work together to form a single pattern just sees it as one less arrow you have to worry about.
