Not gonna lie, the theme is nice. I don't like the song choice though, or the fact that it costs money to download extra songs.

Renard helped a lot in the production of the game

Okay, I know I've said a lot of crap about this game, but here's some constructive criticism.

-That theme looks pretty generic and what is with those noteskins? Are those optional or are those default, cause those looks awful. (EDIT: I see now you can change them. I hope the other noteskins are much better.)And why do the judgements look DDR PS3 style in that you have to basically rely on the color of the judgement flash to see what you got? The combo counter being in the top corners doesn't help things much either. I also don't like how there's no graphics for songs whatsoever and the whole game uses that same uninspiring background animation for everything.

-Most of the music in the video sounded pretty generic/bad. I did like the cute little menu music and Satellite Signal's preview sounded neat, but everything else is "whatever" territory. I understand that this content has to be original so that makes it hard, but you need to remember that you're asking people to buy these songs. Why would I buy songs I don't like when I can just download songs I do like for free on Zenius/Bemanistyle?

-The stepchart seemed good, but I'm not going to lie, it's REALLY hard to follow the stepchart with that shitty noteskin.

-As far as I can tell, so far you're selling one big DLC pack right now for about $9. Very bad move. Not only are you facing an upward climb with this whole business model, but now you're forcing customers into an "all or nothing" situation. You need to offer individual song download offers or at least smaller packs.

EDIT: http://i54.tinypic.com/2il0eo5.png

I'm sorry, WHAT IS THIS? I've been playing rhythm games for almost 10 years and I have no idea what this is supposed to be. Is this a results screen?

You've hit the nail on the head. This is absolutely why the model is unsustainable.

When we buy DLC, we but it because we're already familiar with the song, the artist, or the brand of game.

* I'd buy a Lady Gaga song in a game, because I know the song, and I like it.

* I'd buy a new DJ Taka song without having heard it before, because I like DJ Taka, and I'm excited about hearing new material.

* In most cases, I'd buy any DDR or Jubeat pack in good faith, without knowing the songs or the artists, because I love the DDR brand, and want to keep up. If I don't buy the pack, I know I'm missing out on the full DDR experience.

With this, I don't know the artists, I don't know the songs, and I don't have any reason to trust the brand.. And I'm a huge music game player, so I'm 99% more likely to buy this, than the average consumer, who has no idea what the fuck Stepmania even is.

Actually, I'd buy dlc that's fresh and new, that is of course if the source is reliable and good.

We'll have lots of artist-based packs coming soon.

As for the noteskins, I recommend blockpad, or the "static" series.

Blockpad
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2526020/blockpad.png

Static Bolden
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2526020/staticBolden.png

Both noteskins follow
Red - 4th
Blue - 8th
Yellow - 16th
Green - 12th
Purple - 24th
Aqua - 32nd
Grey - 48th

I don't know if we have any 64ths in our charts

Dynamic means a "vivid"
Static means a "note"
Stable means all one color
The rest except for blockpad have their own wacky timing colour schemes.

EDIT: I'm not to blame for any design decisions. I would have done a lot of things differently myself,
but Kevin really wanted to do something that wasn't like other dance games.
I didn't have much say in the design of things.

Should have done a LDUR noteskin with the actual letters going up the screen.
I would have donated.

I understand the timing colors of the noteskin, it just looks gross.

EDIT: You guys should add backgrounds and stuff to the songs, or at least generic animations of some sort. Just to add some more fun to it instead of a generic background.

But it is like every other 4-panel dancing game out there, so I don't see how forcing ugly noteskins puts it in its own category.

I know you didn't choose these things, but I'm really baffled by his thought process.

Kevin should have made it a free game and have gotten people to do things for free as a community pack or something.

Yeah, well the DLC is expensive as fuck too. The money he gets from that can go to that, since it doesn't cost to use StepMania.

Has this won any more made-up "Awards" since it's release? That may influence my decision on whether or not to give him money.

I've actually seen enough of this game. Hell, I see it every Monday night (except last night cuz he didn't show up...thank god). The accuracy judgements seems to be very lenient. Aside from all that's been mentioned, I never realized majority of this community dislikes Kevin. I thought it was just me and a few people here who see him every week.

Pulsen itself is okay...I'm still getting DDR II for Wii.
