Hi, Im quite new to this DDR stuff, but I Really think its fun, and I've evolved to the point where I can go through most Standard songs on A =D

Well anyway, When I'm sometimes listening to my other songs, I often find myself thinking: Damn that could be a great song for DDR, and then I imagine the arrows and stuff(yes I'm addicted lol).
So, are there any tools out there that lets you create your own files, or does it take a whole lot of programming. I've searched around the net, but couldn't find anything Sad

Well thanks for your time, and I look forward to your answers. Smile

"On ZiV I'm like Princess Diana"
Get Stepmania at www.stepmania.com. Make sure to read the instructions on how to put songs on it and everything.

Next, find the song you want. It's probably a good idea to cut it if the songs more than 2:30 long. I use Audacity (http://audacity.sourceforge.net/) it's got a very simple interface and it's free, it will probably take some practice at first though.

Now put your song into the Stepmania songs folder, like you would any other song. Next, you'll need to make the DWI file. Most people prefer xstep: (http://www.thomasscott.net/), it's pretty simple to use. Just tell it where your song file is, the title and artist name.

Now you'll need to find the BPM and the Gap. You can find both using xstep (make sure you have WinAmp installed). A much easier way to find the BPM is to use a BPM analyzer such as :http://www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/MixMeisterBPM/. Be warned, if the songs BPM changes (In other words, if the songs beat get's faster or slower during the song) you'll need to use Xstep, as MixMeister won't work.

When you're finished with all that tell Xstep to extract it as a DWI and have it placed in the same folder as your song. Start up Stepmania and choose Edit songs/courses and browse to your song. Hit enter and you'll be ready to make steps!
I won't go into the details at this part because the interface is pretty straightforward, and you'll probably just be fooling around with it at first. Just know that the 1234 keys put arrows.

Well, there you go! I tried to make it as simple as I could. If you have any questions on this, don't hesistate to ask.
