The meaning of the words, art, love, beauty, purity, passion, all this was made clear to me by the simplest of human words uttered by this workman.

How do we keep engaged to BEMANI?
Original tunes, baby. They need that, not just songs that we hear everyday.

Anyways, it is indeed sad to see the franchise go out like this. I was kinda wondering when they'd slow things down because Activision went all out on Guitar Hero. You gotta have alot of money to license all those songs; couple that with production costs for the multi-platform versions of the games as well as development costs. Expectations were too high and the projected surplus in sales just didn't happen at all, hence their little statement about "peripheral music games having declined interest". Activision speaks as if they themselves created the modern peripheral music game genre; they can't speak for the entire music game industry, ESPECIALLY Konami's.
KONAMI's BEMANI games have been around for damn near 15 years now and are STILL thriving like all hell in Japan now--US music gaming cannot compare. This is due to KONAMI's vast experience in marketing and lawsuits; they know how to handle financial situations above all other things even though some of their decisions are questionable/random. You must realize that this company released over 100 music game arcade machines and still counting today!
For home (mainstream console) games, beatmania, beatmaniaIIDX, DDR, pop'n music, and GuitarFreaks & Drummania were released as arcade-counterparts of sorts---most of these games are 80%~90% the same as the arcade releases and were released at decent time frames. Note: A small portion of the following are home exclusive releases:
11 beatmania games for PlayStation®
14 beatmaniaIIDX games for PlayStation® 2
13 DanceDanceRevolution games for PlayStation®
9 DanceDanceRevolution games for PlayStation® 2
2 DanceDanceRevolution games for Dreamcast
6 pop'n music games for PlayStation®
9 pop'n music games for PlayStation® 2
2 GuitarFreaks games for PlayStation®
1 Drummania game for PlayStation® 2
7 GuitarFreaks&Drummania games for PlayStation® 2
2 Keyboardmania games for PlayStation® 2
1 ParaParaParadise game for PlayStation® 2
So, we're looking at 60+ JAPANESE mainstream arcade ports (AC->CS) ports of Konami's BEMANI music games. This is very amazing for a company that is not only greedy and stingy, but also cares about the consumers/fans. Konami's music game formula is the oldest, most unique, and IMO, the best formula to use in the music game industry...that's why we've seen no huge Activision-like stagger from Konami because they are experts, and of course waaaay more conservative in most scenarios. "Why do you need Konami Originals?" <--that's easy, to save money while still catering awesome music from in-house BEMANI artists and at the same time, including a sprinkle of licensed songs, which is extremely smart. I mean, c'mon, when you'd much rather play BEMANI KO's over HERO licenses, clearly something is definitely a bit more appealing to you.

DJ Hero 2 is pretty much the definitive experience of the game; and can be completely supported via DLC, now. And I think Hero's just a matter of last year being divided between 5 titles, and this year not holding a candle to RB3. Rock Band clearly takes the cake, here. It's a shame, they were doing pretty nicely - and along with decent Marvel games, to boot (although MvC 3 = overwhelming win).

When I found out about the death of GH, I was overwhelmed with both shock and dismay. I was (and still am) a die-hard fan, especially when GH:WoR came out (well, you know me, the guy who adores heavy metal like it was a religion).
I actually doubt so. Considering the fact that the soundtrack on RB3 was cluttered with artists that simply didn't belong there (*cough*Amy Winehouse*cough*), all of this thanks to the induction of the new keyboard peripheral, I doubt that they'd change the direction of the soundtracks to something heavier if they make another sequel.
I do follow RB too, but, as I'm saying, RB3 was where it started to decline a bit for me.

I think rockband tries to aim at a more universal audience than guitar hero does/did.
While the easiest to pick up remains guitar, it's great to know there's alot of other good options too with rockband.
With guitar hero, I was never quite sure of the other instruments.

I don't care about Guitar Hero anymore since GH3. Only GH1 is good IMO.
But DJ Hero.... Damn, I didn't even get to play it

Capcom payed respect to the fallen Guitar Hero, with a MvC3 match with Guitar Hero controllers...
