Final Fantasy - What went wrong?

FF3 (NES) is my best.



the effect of striking is very speedy & rhythmical!
it rocks me


but many people died & died as FF2, pity.

1. Grind levels.
2. Quit sucking.

All I ever hear about FF12 is how much everyone hates it. How is it overrated?

Personally, I liked FF7 and FF12. Seven was great with an awesome Materia system, but I agree that the over-abundance of spin-offs is making the story a little stale. At the risk of sounding heartless, I laughed my ass off when Aeris died because I knew a friend of mine put LOADS of time into leveling her up and grinding her Limit Breaks and it was all about to go to waste for him.

As for FF12, I like how it operates kind of like an online RPG, but I think it's an acquired taste. I didn't like it at first, either.

However, I have to agree with what was said in the Final Fantasy 12 thread about how many characters had a burst of story when they first appeared and you never hear from them again, which sucks because I often choose my teams based on how much I like the characters themselves, rather than their usefulness in battle. Sure, I picked Ashe and Balthier because I liked Ashe's story and Balthier's charisma was pretty amusing at times, but then I picked Fran just because her Quickening attacks looked cool and because I WOULD DICK-STIR THAT NEGRA RABBITS GUTS WITH GREAT ENTHUSIASM.

The problem is that everyone says FF7 is perfect, so they probably believe that.

FF12's story is awful, and the fights are unpolished. The system had a lot of potential, but things like how if an enemy starts an attack and running away does not change the accuracy when the attack connects seems awkward. It's just that the system is obviously more suited to MMOs and stuff, not single-player games. I would have preferred turn-based or Kingdom Hearts style.

Who goes to GameFAQs, of all places, for reviews?

Is it similar to the .hack games, at least in terms of gameplay? I haven't played Final Fantasy XII yet, but I'm interested in acquiring this...

If you actually check the ratings, it's pretty low compared to the others. The only ones who "overrated" it are game critics and A LOT of them liked it over some of the previous FF's for some reason.

And seriously, if I go to GFAQ's for reviews, it's for teh lulz.

For the most part, the story is very different than previous FF's. The story isn't based around the characters this time so they aren't as fleshed out as most people would like. Baltheir and Ashe are focused on more while Basch gets his part in the beginning and near the end. Fran and Penelo have their parts then stay quiet for the most part. Vaan (NOT the main character) changes subtly throughout the game. In fact, the entire story is pretty damn close to reading a novel. You have to figure out things yourself and it's not obvious in the least.

If it's the former, then to each his own.

If you prefer turn-based, you could have turned the speed setting to the lowest, turned off all gambits and put Wait mode on and sit there while you make your moves. There's no KH style unfortunately. The closest thing to that is Active + Fastest battle speed without Gambits. The system is yours to manipulate. I'm part of the minority that didn't like random battles too much so I actually like the system. Running away delays the attack and if you flee, you won't be hit as much. For the most part, the enemies are about the same movement speed you are.

The game is underrated and overrated at the same time. Parts of the game are awesome, other parts put me to sleep. Dungeons in this game are ridiculously long. I find the story to be fine for the most part not but only after I played it 2-3 more times. It's a great game for $20 dollars (the current price) and you'll get your money's worth but I do feel cheated for spending the $50 on it when it came out.

I remember it being a FF site of sorts 11 years ago. I remember reading a FF6 walkthrough from there while in summer school. Damn, I am old.

I dunno, I thought Fran's voice was pretty hot.

If you want to hear terrible voice acting, give Phantasy Star Universe a try. The main character's voice was so bad I wanted to tear my fingernails off and drive them into my eyes.

I thought FF12's English dub was excellent. In my opinion there was definitely some Kingdom Hearts 1 level voice acting going on. Much less of 'voice actors sounding completely stationary and motionless when a character is clearly doing something physical such as running or gasping for air on screen'! (FF10!)

Any who, FF12 disappointed me. I am completely obsessed with Final Fantasy Tactics and its world of Ivalice so I was already expecting this game to be more on the political side compared to previous installments of the franchise. The battle system felt like it could have some improvements though I can't remember at this time what problems I saw back when I played it. The game is pretty large and it makes the chocobos and the transportation devices much more reliable. I also liked how it was hard to earn money since the monsters rarely drop anything when they die.

The leveling system took some getting used to. I was too accustomed to the sphere grid from FF10 so I was a little lost with the explanations but I soon learned how to use it as I preferred to save up the levels to plan ahead in case I accidentally move the character the wrong way. However, this proved to be a bit of a nuisance as I wound up teaching them how to use weapons that I didn't have at the time or never came across after teaching them how to use that weapon. It left me in some awkward situations in a boss battle or two.

As interested in the game as I was, I just stopped playing. I decided to do some side missions and one sidequest led to another and it got to the point where I forgot the story and the direction I needed to go. I believe I was near the end as the last thing I remember before I stopped playing was entering this mountain where the map is a sketch of the place.

Too many side quests and the story didn't catch my interest. This was back when the game came out though. I went and bought the collector's edition along with the strategy guide so that I can play it again to collect every little thing I can. The story did bore me from time to time but I'm sure I would be more interested in the game now than I did years ago.

And I hate what they did to the Chocobo song. >:[

I like FF XII but some magicks doesn't look so complete.

No Earth magicks.

Water only lv 1 ? Aero and Aero 3 ?

Even on International version SquareEnix didn't completing 8 basic elemental magicks.

But the interest part when i using Esper Zeromus to make exceeding damage over than 50000.

Just make Zeromus HP near 1 + Cast Magicks Bubble => Gravitation Well = 20000++ and Big Bang = 50000++
