Since causing drama is now illegal in the DDR A thread, it was apparently fine for 350+ pages and as normal as breathing to everyone in there because 4-panel and drama go hand in hand here, I guess it's fine if I crosspost this here so it can actually be addressed rather than simply overlooked in order for people to ignore their own issues and shitty behavious on this site.

I'm not causing drama, I just want to get the point across because frankly, I don't appreciate this being ignored (except you PureBlue 👌).


This is a problem with the entire rhythm game community, one that tries to consistently grow and bring in newcomers, but shuns them the moment they have any negative opinions on anything. In the BEMANI rhythm game community this is even worse, because you have a tremendous amount of people clinging to nostalgia and cannot appreciate the content they have around them as opposed to what was there 10-15 years ago, they still want the old songs, the old content that we've already experience ad nauseum. DDR is the worst of them all because people cannot move beyond EXTREME-SN, every song that's been removed up to now they want back, even though they won't play them, they just want the songs to listen to and forget about how bad some of those charts were. There's a lack of appreciation at times for the truly great content we are getting not just now but in the last few years, and despite the efforts of relatively new artists and improved quality in stepcharts people still cling to the old content from 15 years ago and claim that's the best stuff. Worst is what I mentioned above, the groups of people who cannot for their own opinions on whether or not they like something, because if they say they don't, they're wrong in the eyes of everyone who said it was good and are told a hundred times why this chart is clearly a quality chart, even if it is littered with bad patterning. Konami made it, it can't be bad. If they say it's good, they didn't for that opinion on their own, they said it because everyone around them said that too, and they've already seen what happens to people who say they don't like charts. At times, this community is perfectly fine, and other times, it's pure cancer.

If this feels uncomfortable to read, that's good, because it should be, it's genuinely uncomfortable to be a part of a community that acts this way on the regular.

I think there's a lot of gross generalizations in your post there, and it's probably not going to help your argument. However, whether you believe people are forming their opinions because they're supposedly some sort of hive mind or not doesn't negate the fact that everyone has different opinions as to what actually defines quality content. No subjective opinion on a stepchart or song can be taken as fact.

Personally, I don't think the old stuff is the best stuff, but there are stepcharts from 1st Mix through to SN2 that are really great. There's also shit from X to Ace that's really great too. With each mix that comes out, you're going to have mixture of things that you as an individual player prefer, and things that you don't. For example, I really like the AfA expert chart. I don't really care if that supposedly invalidates my opinion on what constitutes a good chart. I also don't care that other people think it's a piece of shit.

I see a lot of people in gaming communities that are unhappy with the current state of something and yearn for the old days, so I can definitely see your point there. I also play WoW and it's much worse there. I can't believe the amount of people who post on the mmochamp forums and just complain incessantly about shit. It seriously feels like the majority of people who post there do this. I can't even begin to comprehend why people would waste time either playing a game or complaining about a game that they don't enjoy. Just stop playing, move onto something else and try to enjoy it. But a lot of people are just miserable fucks, and there's nothing you can do about that. Yes, I realize that's also a gross generalization, but I'm human and that's what we tend to do. Anyways, I enjoy playing WoW, and I enjoy playing DDR. If I didn't enjoy them, then I'd stop. Yeah, they're not perfect, but what in life actually is?

I think at this point there should probably be some kind of moderator-only thread where only new song/chart reveals or other major news are posted. People can subscribe to that instead of the current DDR A thread: One can get over 60 notifications and be like "HOLY CRAP, SOMETHING HAPPENED ON DDR A?" but then it gets revealed to just be petty drama and they're disappointed. Perhaps they've already given up on DDR A. The moderator-only thread or some other method would only notify actual information of DDR A. If people still want to look at the user DDR A thread they can.



I'm one of those people that don't really care for DDR after Extreme but I can't hold Konami against it, it's just my weird personal tastes. I also don't think I have a right to nitpick everything, the only content I genuinely dislike is the bogus 19 stuff (hardest charts for ENDYMION and ACE FOR ACES). That's it. If I got myself into the interested-in-newer-DDR mentality I'm sure I'd be fine with mostly everything around me. Just as I'm fine with mostly everything in the older DDR era (save for some bad charts) because I got myself into the interested-in-older-mentality years ago.



I don't want this site to become Drama Drama Revolution. I really wish people would stop getting down each other's throat over tiny things. I mentioned that I don't like the challenge charts for ENDYMION and ACE FOR ACES, but if someone else does? There is actually nothing wrong with that. At the end of the day it's literally just a note chart. Nothing life-changing. I think it adds variety in the community instead of it becoming a one-note hive mind as Mokou seems to believe.

If, of course, you're actually that angry KONAMI gave bad charts to those songs you're welcome to load up StepMania and add your own charts. Please do not try to follow something you're consistently disappointed with and use that disappointment as an excuse to lash out on other people. Please don't get angry if one person out of 100 doesn't like a song/chart you idolize or just merely like. At the end of the day all you're doing is causing yourself heartache.

I'll be the first to admit that I tend to come off more abrasively than I actually mean to when I share some of my opinions on DDR related things, and, well, some of my opinions in general. I don't like sugarcoating things so I'm not going to hold back and censor myself if I have a strong opinion on something. But at no point in the DDR Ace thread have I ever actually tried to tell people that they have the "wrong opinion" or some shit because that would defeat the entire purpose of it being an opinion. There have been quite a few times though where people have tried (and failed) to make me feel that way. Just look at what happened when I said I thought Aces For Aces was the worst thing I've ever played, despite the fact that people were saying basically the same thing two pages before. I've played every 18 in the game and have passed the majority of them. I'm still going to say Ace For Aces is the worst thing I've ever played because that's legitimately how I feel about it. And no amount of groupthink about charts is going to make me change my mind.

I really don't know, though. There's really just as many people who seem to think Konami is completely infallible and can do no wrong as there are people who insist on playing nothing past Extreme and both sides are just tearing everything apart. I've personally been playing Extreme since I was 9 years old. I was burnt out on it 10 years ago and I'm still burnt out on it now. I'd play literally any other DDR mix over it. Like, don't get me wrong, if I'm near a good, playable Extreme I will still gladly play it. But it's not ever my first choice for a DDR game. Albany, NY getting a DDR Ace machine was an absolute blessing because all we had before that was a bunch of questionable at best Extremes and a horrendous DDR X. I still haven't played everything in the game 2 years later. As much as I might complain about some things about it, I'm still very grateful that we got a new mix at all and even more grateful that one of the first Ace machines in America is 15 minutes from my house.

I'm so not looking forward to Sonic The Hedgehog movie in 2019. I'm still going to give it a chance but what I've seen/heard so far, I feel this movie is gonna go down the proverbial toilet faster than an unwanted pregnancy on prom night.

I wish for a better hope than this, but eh.
