Ok, ive got a question. What does chotto mean? A friend of mine spams it and it pisses me off.

It depends on the context. It can mean "a little", but it can also mean "Hey!" or "Wait!".

Hello Colours, nice to have you on Zenius Smile.

That video is seriously stupid.

Ugh, he speaks such American Japanese...not to mention he can't say something without putting a variation of 'fuck' before and/or after it.

I need some help again for the Japanese studiers here...

This question is about the use of べき. I know you shouldn't use it with a negative verb, as in this example:

その古いパンを食べないべきです。That's wrong, correct? It would be better to use その古いパンを食べない方がいい (or perhaps more forceful, その古いパンを食べちゃだめですよ。”

But what about if I'm using it with an adjective/noun? Is it ok to use it with a negative there? For example:

この本は高いべきです。
This book must be expensive.

この本は高くないべきです。
This book must not be expensive.

Is that second phrase there right?

べき is a tough term to use. I personally never use it towards my mother or my uncles because I tend to use it as blah-blah-blah "should". i.e. I should eat. ぼくは食べるべきだ。

Hope the tip helps, but I'm sure the natives can help you more than I could.
So in my brief return, I am going to slowly but surely work on a new simfile mix called TEMPEST. Still workin' on it. Preview -->

べき means "should" in japanese.
その古いパンを食べないべきです。is correct,but it has mistakes.
そのパンを食べないほうがいい。is correct.but そのパンは食べないほうがいい is better than it.

Oops,must is not "べき"
must is "しなければならない。"
for example:
(E)you must buy dictionary.
(J)あなたは辞書を買わなければならない。

(E)you must not buy dictionary.
(J)あなたは辞書を買わなくてもよい。

I mean,その本は高いべきです is wrong.
correct sentence is その本は高価でなければならない。 and その本は高価でなくてもよい。

Hmm,,,my english has a lot of wrong/mistakes...sorry..lol

About that whole RosettaStone thing... well I was using it, until I switched to JapanesePod, because it seemed so much more practical. RosettaStone did help me though, and things just started to click. Like when Pie said, he didn't understand the whole no iru ne (something like that) part, It just kinda clicked to me through the picture. Guess it's how you learn...

But I recommend JapanesePod. They really explain to you the phrase that you're learning, and what it could mean. It's really good!

Okay so, I've continued to listen to Japanese101.com, and although I'm only at lesson 33, I've really learnt alot! Thing is, I can't remember EVERYTHING I learn! I remember the main points of the lessons, but not the small bonus words.

Anyone have any advice on how to remember? xD

Practice, practice, practice. It helped me learn both kana sets in less than four months.

Renshuu is an EXCELLENT resource for learning vocabulary. They have recently introduced some great options in the form of personal schedules that help IMMENSELY in vocab memorization. The only problem is that it requires knowledge of Hiragana and Katakana...

I'm not sure if you know the kana yet, but I would strongly recommend you learn them if you do not. It is quite silly to learn Japanese without even knowing the basic writing system, and they are not too hard to learn.

*sigh* I will then... I only really wanted to learn how to speak/listen to Japanese if every one day I go to Japan or I want to listen to some Japanese show on youtube that don't have subtitles... plus, it's cool to know another language Tongue

EDIT: I checked the site, and I just realised that my computer can't recognize Japanese characters O_O

Try installing the East Asian fonts from the Windows CD.

"MAGGLE"
As another suggestion, try playing a japanese game which has japanese speech in it. I play Super Robot Wars F, and I'm learning how to read and speak kana (but not kanji since I still haven't learned anything about them). And use japanese words you've learned when applicable like "okaerimashita" (welcome back) and "ee" (informal yes).

To Shubox, a simple google search should satisfy it, but I think there's a thread here somewhere which has links to fonts.
