I still don't quite understand why my points keep dropping as of late though when I'm not breaking any rules or really doing anything that would warrant droppage. Is it because I'm blunt and I tell it like it is? I just don't quite know exactly what I'm doing wrong here, and that's my main issue. People can just drop your points for no reason and that's okay. But the mods always get upset whenever people don't abide by the rating system rules?
It's just crazy how slightly more than a month ago, I was at around 100 and now for whatever reason, I'm at under 40. I don't even think I'm doing anything wrong, other than bringing the topic up and that's not against site rules. It's a cause for concern.
I already anticipate someone telling me that I'm taking things too seriously.

It's intimidating to new users, certainly. Maybe we just don't do negative ratings, if you decide to revamp? It seems less hurtful when you think that someone just gave you fewer points than handed you a negative rating. Admittedly, you still have the problems of "why does so-and-so have 500 more points than me" or "why did my rating drop at all when I did nothing wrong," though.

Outside of 50 points granting you the right to a category, what do they do? Nothing, so for the life of me, I don't understand the whining about ratings. I've never understood. A high rating doesn't make you a better user, a low rating doesn't necessarily mean you're a bad user. To me it's all about how you compose yourself in the forums (and to a lesser degree in the chat). Begging for a higher number and complaining that your score isn't as big as you'd like it to be is not the right way to improve one's rating. Just be a good user, follow the rules, be friendly. Works pretty well.

Think about all the things in life you could worry about, and then realize you're worrying about a number online that doesn't do anything. Put your worries towards more important real-world things.

Another update to the OP that should be done: The rule of getting banned after going under -100 points doesn't apply now, you only get banned if you get 3 strikes. But, if the offense is extremely serious, you can get banned without warning.

The point system does serve a purpose: credibility. More points usually means more cred, but cred can only be obtained from experience. So, complaining about ratings doesn't really help. If you want to improve your rating, make helpful, informative posts.

To sum it up, people with higher ratings deserve them because they are credible and friendly. People with lower ratings also deserve them because they may not be as credible or friendly. However a 5, 10, or even 20 point difference is not a big deal, and higher ratings come with time.

I'm curious, who? Give me an example. The only reason why I could see that happening is if they were known on other forums or on YouTube. Nonetheless, that this the exception rather than the rule.

This isn't strictly true, I have a bit of an unwritten rule that when you're under 100 it's effectively 1 strike and you're out. I figure it's a good middle ground, 99% of the time people under -100 deserve to be, and when you're under there it's only a matter of time before you do something shitty and clog up the forums like that prick who did that a month ago whose name I forget.

Needless to say, I'm new to the forums here. I had a question about my user rating. As stated before, I have never made a post in the forums. Despite this, my user rating is negative! I'm not sure why this is the case, as my activity here has only been posting scores and photos to document them in the score tracker. Is there any particular reason my rating would be so low? I don't want to be stigmatized for not having done anything reprehensible, but if there's something I've missed I would be glad to reconcile! Thanks for any help. =)

Someone's being a dick for no reason. Alex or Alan will likely get rid of the negative rating once they see this.
