This is looking to be one of the biggest Summer Contests yet, as after just 2 days we have over 50 signups!! The more the merrier though and we took steps to try and mitigate some of the work required by participants in anticipation of this being a large event, which you can read more about below!

What has changed since last year?

We have made a couple of significant changes to assist with the workload of both simfile creation and voting in response to our contests growing in participation each year.

The first change is with our overarching contest format! Each theme in the non-VIP weeks has two ways to tackle it, effectively splitting the themes into two groups. When voting opens players are only REQUIRED to vote on files in their own group, however voting on the entire round is still encouraged and will earn bonus points.

We are going back to an 8 round + 3 VIP round format, BUT only a participants top five scoring files across the non-VIP weeks is used for rankings. This means you can min-max your chances of scoring by entering every round or you can skip any 3 rounds you wish.
The files will be merged into one group for results and ALL files will receive points in relation to an exponential curve.

Furthermore there are no forced collaboration rounds this time, but we are re-instating the rule where a participant can enter 3 unique collaborations across the 8 standard rounds. With this rule it means a participant could have a file in BOTH groups if they wish. You can REALLY min-max your scoring potential by making use of these, as your highest scoring file, regardless if it’s a solo or collaborative file, is what earns you points!

The deadlines have also been pushed back an hour to try and better accommodate the EU time zone!

What is the Summer Contest?

Each week the previous winners of the major Triple Cross contests (Summer Contest 2025 and Battle Royale 2026), chrononical and Gameoson, come up with a theme for the week, whether it be finding a song that fits criteria or doing something specific with your stepchart, and everyone battles it out and votes on which they liked best! After the main rounds the participants get whittled down into the VIPs where the overall winner will be crowned!

These contests are a fantastic way for novice stepcharters to learn the ropes and get amazing constructive feedback, and veterans can enjoy the challenge of going up against some of the most polished stepcharters out there!

Nah there's no beef, they're trying to do their own thing and we've just continued to do ours all this time, so we simply leave them to it. Shame some of them can't offer the same amount of courtesy back huh!

Don't forget that if you haven't yet signed up you can do so at any stage of the contest! You can skip up to 3 rounds with no consequence to your final scoring but joining in for all rounds will min-max your potential to reach the VIP stages!

Without further ado we kick off this contest with our first theme!

Week 1 - Generation Gap
Group A - Boomers - Your song choice needs to have been released in the year 2001 or earlier.
Group B - Zoomers - Your song choice needs to have been released in the year 2024 or later.

Theme Notes
Covers/remixes of songs are counted based on what year the cover/remix was released, NOT the year the original song was released:

For instance, TRIP MACHINE CLIMAX could be used because it was released August 24th, 2000, but TRIP MACHINE PhoeniX is NOT eligible because it was released August 22nd, 2007.

Although Hou was originally released November 1st, 2023 and would not qualify, you WOULD be allowed to step Hou (Five Flares Mix) as it was released October 27th, 2025. Good news for all Hou Remix Enjoyers!

Song eligibility is determined by it's first release, regardless if the song was re-released at a later date. For example, a song from a videogame in 2001 that had a soundtrack release in 2002 would remain eligible. The same goes for if a song was released as a single but also later released as part of an album, if a song was released in one region before another etc. If any doubts send one of us mods a message and we'll double check the eligibility.

The deadline for files will be Sunday, 7 June 2026 18:00. EDT.

I don't really have beef at all, I've found a better life for myself outside simfile contests

It sure doesn't look like it. It's been 2-3 years of this and personally I'm ready to move on.

I have moved on, moved on to other things.

But, to put it frankly, there is no real way for me to move on when I (as well as several other users) have been permabanned with no real way to rejoin the community. They took something that used to be held entirely on ZIv, moved it away from ZIv, and then shut off certain members from accessing it. Luckily I don't care to rejoin the community since I can still post on here as I feel like.

honestly, even tho i don't plan on participating, i love this theme concept. hope to see more entries in the boomer zone that aren't just bemani songs, but i'm also not about to complain about bemani bangers. shoutouts to whoever submitted the sampling masters track; you're a fuckin' real one.

also i recommend using a different image host if you're gonna post pictures. discord embed links break after a short period of time. idk if imgur is still good to use, but imgbb or catbox seem pretty reliable these days.

Great! There might be some charts I'll want to see. Just to confirm, the only way to participate in the contest is to join the discord, correct? I'm asking for all of the other people who are not allowed to join the discord server that might still want to participate.
