PSA: Upgrading from CH to Resident is NOT going to be OTA this time, because the data is too large for it, so it will be via USB!



In other words, don't expect the game to be available at the same usual time as the Japanese cabs. I'll play by ear to see if other R1s have their cabs updated to Resident for the next couple hours, but otherwise, I'm probably gonna wait til tomorrow to go down there, to be safe.

Called my local R1, and they don't have the USB drive yet. I'm hoping by the weekend everything will be squared away, but I'll call them back tomorrow to see if things change.

Just called R1 MVM, and the manager informed me they got the USB stick for Resident, and the mechanics will be installing it tonight, so I'll be heading down there tomorrow. Chances are high that at least the SoCal locations will have Resident ready this weekend!

Update 10/20: I went down to Round1 MVM, and both cabs are still running CastHour. I talked to two different managers and asked if they were updating the machines tonight, and they both told me they didn't receive the update and don't know when the mechanics will have it. So, I told them about the manager I was on the phone with yesterday who told me that this store had the update and they were going to update the games last night, and I get told that they did not hear anything about that.

So, either the manager from yesterday lied to me, or there was some kind of miscommunication... EDIT: According to Enoch Kim from the Round1 FB Group, I think the manager might've accidentally referred to a recovery drive (for fixing a broken OTA update) for the drive containing Resident. Either way, this whole situation opened a can of worms, so I'm washing my hands off this until I see other locations have this game installed.

The good news, however, is that I have someone from another Discord who just started working that location, and they will give me updates on when our cabs will get Resident, and also try to nudge the mechanics into getting it installed sooner than later.

To anyone who came to MVM and left disappointed, I'm sorry for the misinformation, and I had the exact same feeling you did when you saw those machines still running CH.

Hoping they'll have it updated sooner than later. I won't be able to check out any R1s until at least next saturday. I'd like to say all California iidx cabs will be updated by then, but knowing that it's the US I'm somewhat skeptical.

It's gonna be a repeat of Cannon Ballers with new hardware. I'm noticing a lot of discourse on this update, so I wanted to clarify things so no one is confused as to why the US doesn't have Resident yet. Resident is a hardware upgrade, there is no OTA update this time because it's new hardware with the whole conversion to full 1080p HD, the kits and USB have to be shipped from Japan to the mother Round 1 in Puente Hills California, they have to go through logistics and customs first before getting there, which may take a short or long time depending on how smooth customs goes, so we don't know when every location will be updated to Resident, it's a waiting game right now. We just need to be patient and when the reports from players come in that they started getting the kits and updating their games, we will know.

Resident is not a hardware update, the only reason upgrade kits needed to be shipped is that there's way too much data in the update to do a simple OTA update (there have been some OTA updates to preload some data for it, which didn't happen for Sinobuz->CB). This is more similar to the Pendual->copula update (which was the last IIDX style to use upgrade kits apart from hardware upgrades).

Speaking of which, Enoch Kim (the same one from my earlier post) has wrote that the update sticks have finally started dispatching!


Personally, I'm just gonna wait it out until I start seeing other locations start running Resident before I call the manager, and even if my location got it up and running today, I'm going to wait until November. I learned my lesson about trying to give people up-to-the-minute news and jumping the gun, so I'm not gonna really talk about my location having Resident until I actually see it.

Finally got to play Resident today!

So, best piece of advice I can give is play Class mode first! For some reason, they now lock Another away, so keep that in mind when you play the game for the first time and/or you migrate your profile!

There was quite a few songs I was surprised I'd like, too. Probably one of the better starting songlists for IIDX. 8I

Not sure what you mean by this. Your dan level dictates the difficulty range you're allowed to play for the first two stages (all difficulties are always available for final stage and extra stage), and each style has always locked away the new 12s for a few weeks after launch (this even goes back to before Anothers were rated). If you have no dan rank, level 8 songs are the max for stage 1, level 10 for stage 2 (and this has been the case for many years).

You can't access Another difficulty on your first play anymore; only Normal and Hyper charts. Someone mentioned this happened in Casthour as well, but when I migrated my profile and went right into Standard, I couldn't access Another charts until I got my Class rank.

This is required before entering STEP UP. Otherwise you start at LV 1 in your 1st play.
