It really sucks that it's over that quickly. This whole project lasted just less than a year, I think?

But I'm still grateful that I got to share some of my creations here, like putting the Konsento:03 and Devil-Zukin cut-ins that I made before this project existed to perfect use here, and just a few weeks before, I made cut-ins for ROBO 2000. So I still want to thank Scrap Rabbit for giving me that inspiration. 😄

Proof (check the video, the date in filename and in details). It says 20211229. We checked the broken minimaid using my laptop and this was the last time we checked their DDR cab before they decided to replace the cab to PIU XX

The guy in leaked video obviously played that machine before the minimaid was broken.

Ask that guy when that recording was shot.

Man... we don't need to ask to your friends, it is still a public place, so please..., you weren't allowed to use it in a cab.

You don't even share your themes, would you be mad if someone steal your themes and share to Stepmania community? If you don't, we do. Our project was STEALED by... everyone know who did it and have real evidence.

To be honest, I'm not bothered in their decision, the status in their project and how you guys feel. Their files had been tested for just one week before their cab got pull-out. I have distanced myself from enciso after talking with him and helping with his project issues via discord. All of the new issues that the current project experiencing are fixed by myself. I'm getting tired of hearing him "all I do does not satisfy you" whenever I'm helping him giving suggestion and/or fixes.

To Curilang, the way you lamented me here and even in discord obviously state that you have still beef against me even if the past issues already got sorted out. You do not speculate nor ask it first but blatantly spread misinformation about my activities regarding SM stuffs. I don't know what you mean "throw shit against both of you" when I don't really care much about what you two guys are doing. Also "treat you both like thieves"??? I never claim your works as mine even if I've done contributing to your project.

Yeah, I regret using it in my favorite arcade place and I apologize for that. But making it a big deal after I already explained and the cab already pull-out months ago is a bit over-acting. I did it out of passion, not out of money as you guys claim.

With that attitude, cutting my connection with enciso is definitely something I don't regret.

It doesn’t matter what you helped with, they had requests for their project and you went against it. Honestly this looks like when my 11 year old tries to argue with me. I tell her not to do stuff all the time and get “well yeah but I thought…” or “but I did _____ so why can’t I do that?”

Honestly, I’m just glad it wasn’t because of me. When the other thread disappeared I got worried it was because I added the dancers to the X3 vs 2ndMIX theme (which was for my personal use and I didn’t distribute) and posted a screenshot.

Reminds me of how someone was running the XX Starlight theme on a public cab that was making money.

It's not fucking hard to just... not use the characters if you want to run a Stepmania machine in public, guys. You don't need them and your machine will make the same amount of money whether you had them or not. This really sucks for both the creators and the people who were legitimately enjoying the project and looking forward to more. Especially sucks considering the douchebag who did it is like "well lol I don't give a fuck, their problem not mine, L+ratio, skill issue".

I don't know or haven't talked to Enciso/Curilang personally, but from my perspective as a software developer, their behavior tells me that they don't fully understand the consequences of making a project open-source. Enciso's inclusion of the GNU GPLv3 license in the project repository means that he technically allowed anyone to copy/publish/modify the project as they please (with proper credits and licensing). I don't know all of the details or to what extent the project was copied, but complaining about redistribution and taking down the project in retaliation makes me question whether they actually understood that or not. Not to mention, if you make a project public in any capacity, I think you should be open to collaboration with anyone who is willing to help contribute to the project as well.

Personally, if I were the owner of this project, I would license it under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 instead, since the GNU GPLv3 isn't suited for non-software projects and doesn't actually prevent commercial use of the project either. But then again:
1) I'm not a legal expert (nor should any of this be legal advice),
2) using an open-source license on assets based on copyrighted material is questionable to begin with (legal action would be difficult even if the GNU GPLv3 were violated in this case), and
3) no free/open-source license would be able to disallow redistribution anyway.
If I really were worried about someone else redistributing/publishing my project, I either wouldn't have made the project open-source in the first place (difficult given the open-source nature of StepMania), or would try to claim some form of copyright on the assets (although that might spell legal trouble with Konami).

Thanks for this. On the one hand, I totally get being a creator and wanting to set the terms of use for your creation, but as a developer, I've also been confused by the stance that, somehow, a publicly released open-source project has been... stolen? (Unless there's some unpublished code involved? I don't have the full details either.)

This adds some broader clarity to the situation, and can maybe shed some light on a solution to move forward. I'm still confused by the decision to pull down a project that's been available for some time and still highly sought out. Let's be real here, the project is still going to be distributed between people, just without the involvement or terms of its creators which, I'm sorry, it's not my project or any of my business, is an extreme reaction to one offense, and one that was inevitable at that.

Feel free to call me names. It does not bother me much anymore. I'm tired of explaining and listening to your shit.

This is not how you take down a project professionally. This is an attack that inherently puts razorblade on the defensive, and is obviously going to look worse when he (justifiably) is angry and trying to explain himself while people continue to attack him.

Additionally if, as he said, the cab is offline, there is no current public usage of the theme out in the wild. Therefore, I don't think legal action could be taken against Enciso, if that's the concern.

I don't know, this is a really obnoxious reaction to a mistake that someone made. Why this wasn't a PM, or a longer statement wasn't drafted before taking the project offline, is beyond me. Just my two cents.

I have reason to believe that with wording like that Encisso's first language might not be English, but I digress. I disagree with his phrasing that the project was "stolen", but fully agree with him deciding to take it down when his own wishes for the project were not adhered to. I don't really care that his response was probably much worse than it should've been. Nobody ever said don't edit it or don't use it for yourself, but it's been a well known thing for YEARS that stuff like this shouldn't be put on commercially used cabinets. It's literally a case of "use your fucking common sense".

I personally couldn't give a shit about what ruffles Konami's feathers, but some people do. If you want to play with their ball, you have to play by their rules. This is a classic "this is why we can't have nice things" scenario.
