Hello.

I'm trying to figure out a way to make my pad more sensitive, as I get random misses at times. I found this product online, and it touts itself as being better than using pennies to modify your Cobalt Flux.

https://ddrpad.com/products/cobalt-flux-pad-sensitivity-mod

Do you guys have any thoughts on this? Is this not as good, about the same, or better? Should I just modify with pennies?

Have you found it beneficial to do all sides of each panel, or should you just do the inside face of each panel?

Thanks!

I've been using a penny mod on my L-Tek and it works just fine for me (I can PFC 15's and 16's with it). Personally I'd start with a penny mod on your pad to start and then maybe consider those copper strips if you don't think the pennies are enough. No point in spending an extra $15+ if you can get good results with pennies.

I tried doing all four sides of the panel once and it made the pad way too sensitive. Just do the inside faces to start, you can always add pennies to the other three sides if you still don't think it's sensitive enough.

To add onto this I've tried both with LTEKs and they both feel around the same. The only real downside pennies seem to have compared to the adhesive copper strips is sometimes having to reapply them when the tape gets old or dislodged, but that's a 2 minute job. The copper wasn't worth a 2 month wait from the US but it was worth a try.

Penny modding is very trial-and-error to figure out exactly what you like, but it's pretty worth it. I'd only recommend actually getting this if the penny mod just doesn't work out for you at all, and that's after several sessions/changes.

Approximately nobody asked for this song to be included. Least popular decision by the Japanese since Nintendo released the Wii U.

At what level of play should I consider the penny mod for my LTEK? I’m SDGing 11s and FCing some 12s, but 13s and 14s I can either get an A or can’t pass at all, I’m still at a point getting back into it where I’m assuming my misses are my own and not the pad. I don’t want to do it too soon because I’ve heard it can damage the sensors.

Thanks, everyone.

I'm surprised no one mentioned what you are speaking about, in regards to damaging the pad. I have heard that before. Anyone have thoughts on that?

It was a YouTube video talking about what pads to avoid and what pads to buy, and he mentioned the penny mod for the cobalt flux and ltek but mentioned it can damage the contacts and even showed pictures. I’ll see if I can find it.

Edit: Sorry I didn't post this yesterday, I was working. But I found it today, it was Dom ITG's video. He talks about penny modding at 6:35.

Penny mod does not damage the pad. It'll very slightly warp the upper part of the sensor (the part with the white diamond on it) but that's it.

I've had my L-TEK penny modded for over a year and it still works flawlessly.

I literally posted proof. It’s in the post you quoted, literally right above your post. Cropping it out of the quote doesn’t actually get rid of it.

That's literally my penny modding video that he used. I acknowledged that it will warp the metal a bit, but like I said, it seems to have no effect on performance. My L-TEK still works flawlessly after ~15 months of having it penny modded.

Penny modding does not "damage the contacts" in any way that affects its performance.
