This is a song I submitted back in January (I think it was January, who knows this year) for the 1v1 tournament, but it ran unopposed that week so I thought to give it the doubles treatment and put it back it the game. This is my first ever doubles chart by the way, in case you start to wonder what went wrong. Enjoy!

"I do DDR things sometimes"
The adventurers crossed the gap successfully. Everyone breathed a collective sigh of relief and walked into the dark stairwell that was present just in front of them.

As they approached the next floor, more torches lit up, and everything on floor 2 was then visible to all. In only a second or so, something shiny caught the attention of the group. At the other end of the room was an incredible amount of loot. There was a variety of weapons and precious items: swords, shields, flails, bows (with arrows), staves, and heaps of gold, silver, and other valuable metals. Unfortunately, there didn’t seem to be anything to replenish mana. This could become a problem soon, they thought.

Oh yeah, and there was another problem. The group was separated from the loot by a ridiculous amount of traps. Like, it was overkill just how many traps there were. It was almost impressive.

Knowing that they should’ve seen this coming, the group readied themselves physically and mentally for this grueling challenge.

No doubt, they would have to avoid many shocking traps.

Floor 2 - Around the Traps

Main Requirement: Use at least 8 sets of one-sided shock arrows (rows of four mines on the left or right side of the chart) in your hardest chart. (90 EXP)

Bonus Requirement: Use sets of one-sided shock arrows for at least 16 consecutive measures in your hardest chart. (10 EXP)

Submissions are now open for Floor 2! You all have until Sunday, November 1st at 1PM EDT/EST to submit your file for this round.

Also, voting starts now for Floor 1! Do remember that we are using a new 1-10 rating system for voting this time, as stated in the initial post. Make sure to vote fairly and responsibly! All votes should be sent to FoRCeDNaTuRe.

Feel free to ask questions about the requirements for this floor or the voting system below. Good luck, everyone!

Actually ended up making full double difficulties this time... once I found a song I thought would work for the requirement, the rest came pretty smoothly. Significant quantities of shock arrows are employed in all four charts, so you can enjoy avoiding traps at whatever level you like.

I don't even know what I'm doing to be honest, just putting one-sided shock arrows wherever they might or might not work. There is a slim chance I might be slightly overrating the chart, but it's definitely not an easy ride. There is at least one set of one-sided shocks in each measure from m19 to m40. If I put one-sided shock arrows with nothing on the other side, you can just take one step in the center on the side you're on or anywhere on the other pad for it to work.

"I do DDR things sometimes"
Everyone, having made it past the traps, was busy indulging themselves in the collection of weapons and valuables that sat on that side of the floor. After a while of searching around and finding weapons that suited them, the lot of them set off for the challenge awaiting them on the third floor.

They arrived at the third floor, and the torches came alight once again. Before they could even think, an arrow whizzed past TonyAkita’s face. Having seen this, NewbStepper quickly pulled out his bow and prepared for a ranged battle. Everyone quickly followed suit, seeing as there was thankfully a healthy amount of ranged weapons on the floor prior.

The arena was set up with plenty of things to hide behind; it was far from melee friendly. They would have to pick off the enemies using only their ranged weapons. However, the enemies had strong weapons of their own, so they’d have to be careful.

They readied their arrows and their arrows for the battle. Everyone would need to make powerful ranged attacks.

Floor 3 - Ranged Attacks

Main Requirement: Use successive notes or a jump that are at least 3 panels apart 8 times in your hardest chart. (For example, down to down, up to up, etc.) (90 EXP)

Bonus Requirement: Omit the center two panels for at least 24 consecutive notes in your hardest chart. (10 EXP)

Submissions are now open for Floor 3! You all have until Sunday, November 15th at 1PM EDT/EST to submit your file for this round.

Voting starts now for Floor 2! Make sure to vote fairly and responsibly! All votes should be sent to FoRCeDNaTuRe.

Lastly, FoRCeDNaTuRe will be posting the results for Floor 1 today as well. Be sure to stay tuned for that!

Feel free to ask questions about the requirements for this floor or any other contest-related questions below. Good luck, everyone!

In reference to the step zone at the top of the screen? Or their positioning on the pads?

In terms of the step zone. Sorry, should've clarified. For example, a 1p down to a 2p down would have a 3-panel gap in between it on the step zone.

"Crybabies unite~ ♡"
Now that the votes are out, here are my thoughts on the submissions for Round 1. I must say this was a better turnout than I expected given how much traveling is involved when you are limited to the middle six panels.

BLO§OM - 6/10
Overall plays like a singles chart spread out into 6 panels, which is fine, but there are parts where jumps have very wide gaps out of nowhere. The freeze section feels a little strange and leads to some ambiguous entering points. Overall a decent attempt.

Elisha - 4/10
Not sure where the chart is intended to fit the theme, I guess it is from towards the end? There are some 16th syncopations I don't really agree with in the first half, but the chart itself for the most part seems to work. Everything feels a little too easy until the massive difficulty spike that hits near the end, with jumps throwing the player into some really wide distances. Maybe you could smooth that out next time, both in terms of movement and in terms of difficulty progression.

Liubi, Liubi, I Love You - 7/10
Within the time limit by one second, ha ha! Why does the maximum BPM display as 140, but the song hit 190 at the end? Anyway, this is a really interesting song pick so kudos! Some of your jumps are really really wide and make you leap far out from the last step, and I think placing them a little closer would improve how much I'd enjoy playing this on a pad. The chart also gets violently hard for a 13 when the song gets to 135 BPM, with a jump and then a 16th cluster that starts off a little uncomfortably position-wise.

Rate Cranky Hi-roller - 9/10
This feels very well-made for what the theme was. I liked the part where it breaks the rule at the sound of the breaking glass, very fitting! My one gripe with this chart is how far you had to stretch while holding a freeze arrow; I just don't think there was any sort of musical justification for that 2D hold + 1U step, which is quite a stretch when you can't shift your weight over without risking dropping the freeze arrow.

rough percussionythm - 8/10
Way to go for making full difficulties!
CDP - What a challenging 18 with lots of movement! I liked it overall minus the freeze arrow forced doublesteps; the ones that go from up to down or vice-versa are really jarring at this speed and I don't think they're needed for this kind of song.
EDP - This is almost the kind of chart I'd make normally myself. Lots of interesting turns and twists, and the steps for the most part don't feel overdone at all. Some of the movements you made are really uncomfortable to perform physically in my opinion, though; m51 has you stretching both legs backwards while looking the other way, while m79 has you kick back the 2D arrow while facing left and immediately shoot it forward to hit 1U. m80 is much more comfortable and pleasing to do.

Set Me Free - 5/10
The effort was definitely there, but I feel that this chart needs some rebalancing. To start off with the good, the rhythms were interesting and there definitely was a consistent structure it followed. Now, for the things that could use some work:
- m23 and m24 have some broken flow there
- hitting 16th notes at this speed while turned is quite difficult to do on a 13, yet your chart does that really often
- things like the short 16th bursts at m45 and m54 have greater distance than normal singles crossovers, you definitely should keep that in mind when using them as a means to transition
- 2D to 1U transitions are wider than 2D to 1D transitions, as deceptive as it looks with the arrow lanes, keep that in mind
- Rate this a 14 instead

Seventh Summer of Love - 9/10
The only thing I gotta say is, holy cow that burst at the end is a huge difficulty spike (but it's warranted given how this song plays). I like how the rest of the chart swings back and forth smoothly.

Smile - 6/10
Honestly, not bad. I could tell this someone's first shot at ever writing double. At least this is done on a slow enough song and does nothing too crazy. The most important thing to work on is which foot should enter the next section; parts like m13, m15 and m18 make it unclear what the intended foot pattern is which leads to confusion and twisted ankles (lol). The rest of the chart works quite nicely.

SPOOKY - 7/10
This chart is too much for an 11. At 140 BPM, 16th triples or fives should be minimal to none at this level, but more importantly, it crosses the center with the both up arrows or both down arrows on 8th notes far too many times, which is considered difficult to do for players who are learning. Parts like m42 really up the ante since you have to walk in with legs crossed over to clusters of 16ths, and at m50 you have to walk out crossed over through the center. I think there are more parts where you have the right foot on 1R and left foot on 2L than the other way around! The fact that you put so much through the center makes it mildly confusing for players who aren't accustomed to reading everything as alternate steps. Even just all your 8th note contortions give it the 11 difficulty, but with everything you put in, the difficulty really lives up to the song title.

Step Back In Time - 8/10
Way to go for making full difficulties!
This song could benefit from a slightly shorter cut since the song itself repeats a lot, but that's just my opinion. Like the outro could have faded out earlier, etc. Overall, this has very solid ideas, making it still fun while easy. What I don't quite get is why some of the 16ths are gallops and the others are triples, when they sound identical in the song.

The Question is What is the Question - ???
This is my submission... and it's also kind of a joke.

Upshift (Yunosuke Remix) - 8/10
Way to go for making full difficulties!
EDP - A lot of interesting and unique ideas like the freeze arrow switches and 16th footswitches marked with a mine, but wow do those 16th runs really shake your center of mass violently.
DDP - There's only one person among us who would make an entire chart with just really wide movements, I'm sure. The doublesteps at m48 are really too wide to be comfortable, as each one requires a travel of over 2 panels in a span of an 8th note at 167.

Veritas - 7/10
Oh gosh. These streams all have far too much movement to be seen in 15s. I would say if there was a gradual rebuild visually after the slowdown (at m29) instead of the jumpscare that is there, especially as it is the part before the climax of the chart, it'd be better. Movements like m44 are hard to do and this chart has a bunch of them back to back, so I'm inclined to say this is easily a 16. I would also put in a lot more easier things before quick bursts like m51, because those take a lot out of players at your intended level.

We No Speak Americano - 9/10
This one gets points for originality. I love the warps and the scroll factor changes to match the guitar riffs. as well as mines or fake holds covering arrow lanes that aren't used.
CDP - The end of the bursts at m44 and m46 just look a tad bit uncomfortable.
EDP - That slowdown though. I did enjoy this a lot.

You - 8/10
I honestly had no gripes with this until those sudden pad jumps that broke one's flow came up. Not what I expected for a song like this, but nice chart regardless.

It's the middle silent-ish part and I was "cheating" and deserved the end result.

Nonetheless, congratulations to Astroman129!

Heh, Veritas actually feels like a hard 14 to me and I specifically uprated it to 15 because I thought I'd probably be unusual in that respect. Personally I think MAX 300 EDP is significantly harder. Oh well, I'm used to having a skewed idea of difficulty. The "jumpscare" is there because it felt to me like the song really "hangs" on that one note, so doing something like a stop for it seemed correct, and I went with an intense slowdown instead so that there are more cues for when it's going to pick back up.
