So recently I built my own MakeyMakey DDR pad and I'm in love with DDR/StepMania right now, and after getting some packs and songs, taking note of some chart patterns and such, I decided to make my own chart and become a member of this site. As of right now I'm working on making an arcade edit of Dolphika (Feryquitous Remix) by HiTECH NiNJA, and I plan on making all of the 5 difficulties (because the song is pretty catchy).

I mainly want some notes on how a difficult to challenge pattern should look like inthese difficulties, because as it's my first time mapping, I don't wanna make a pad pattern that looks random, something that feels like you're dancing to the song but can be heck all in Expert and Challenge.

Here's what the song sounds like in full, I'll put up the edited version ASAP.

Thank you all in advance, and thank you all for making simfiles worthy of downloading.

i'm not very good with advice but here's some guides
basics
how to sync (replace any instance of mixmeister with arrowvortex, the latter is more accurate but still not 100%)
how to graphics
patterns
one | two | three | four (marking footswitches/intentional doublesteps with mines is heavily recommended)

and lastly you could take pattern inspiration from some of our most quality steppers here (e.g. talkion, ian, marten, cuzco, digitalbasic, and to an extent "myself" but idk)

Okay stop right there.

I appreciate the recommendation but that simfile is not something you just recommend a new simfile artist to take inspiration from. For a lot of reasons.

If you really want to recommend simfiles from me, a lot of my better work is generally concentrated around Summer Contest 2016, Simfile Shuffle 2016, Simfile Tycoon 2017, and Summer Contest 2018.

Also, there are a lot of good steppers missing from your post. Users such as Telperion, DMAxel, Garik+, Lisek, brunobg24, Gameoson, Loodee, Feraligatr, chewi, Pie-Kun, DDRDAIKENKAI, ddrstepper, Silverhawke, Benpai, Oni-91, xRGTMx, ledgam3r1279, Spork!, and Taronuke have also proven themselves to make really good simfiles with a LARGE variety of stepping styles, and there's still so many more I didn't mention that also have good files.

The best advice for __Darling I can offer is to just check out the files from other people at your own pace: Search for songs you like, skim the contest archives, download packs that catch your interest, and play the files inside. Determine what you like and don't like about the charts and try to implement what you like into your own stepping style.

I'm willing to give you feedback on your file when you make it if you want.

^ Pretty much this. Find stepcharts that you like, emulate their style, and then try to put your own spin on it. Don't be afraid to steal ideas from other people - just don't steal the entire chart. Tongue

Also, I kinda don't recommend doing anything too crazy if you're just starting out. Crazy boss-level charts can be tricky to pull off if you're new to making simfiles. Take it easy for your first few charts, then you can start doing harder stuff once you get comfortable.

I'd also be willing to take a look at your file once it's done and give you some pointers if you'd like.

Alright, I'm loving the surprisingly quick replies (I was expecting 1 reply literally after a month of waiting) and I'm taking in a lot of the tips and tricks here. When it comes to boss songs, I think SLAM x Nato's PARADOXX and MAX 300, and with 2 months of getting into StepMania, I can identify the correct and reasonable difficulty levels and stuff. With Dolphika constantly switching rhythms and such, I already know when the speed should go up and down, and what patterns would work best.

Although I can identify the types of patterns as someone who's taking a hiatus from osu!mania, I wanna try a bit of a challenging but not too difficult song, thus I chose this one. I don't completely expect to make KONMAI quality charts, something to get me started with charting songs on my own since I constantly have trouble finding simfiles that have been made for them. There's parts where I want the player to spin, have a couple drilling (I've been getting into Pump It Up as well, apologies for any confusion between terms) and the like, so I slow down the song in my head and figure out the combination on my homemade pad.

Anyways, I picked up a free trial for Reaper and made my edit (Apologies if there's any quality issues, if there's any. Tested it out on pretty crappy TV speakers at the time but sounded nice on my speaker setup for my Mac): https://drive.google.com/open?id=1PX6d2SvhsY-jyw4ksazdQHqQcB_20UHL

First, sorry for my bad English

I want to make my own charts, mainly from Bang Dream Songs since I love and play it. I already know base stepmaking like stops or warp since I've used to make some charts in StepF2. Happy

Problems are, since I make in dance (4k) charts, and my biggest one, my own charts usually seems overrated. This makes me kinda afraid to release my own charts. Oops

My plan is one week one song with 4 difficulty (except challenge, all below 15-16's).
Any suggestion for me ? Question Mark
