I would not pay more than $100 for any IIDX game but I might pay more for DDR. I was subscribed for a bit and I think I pulled it up once or twice a month. I decided to cancel this month after giving the new update a try. It doesn’t help that I am horrible at it. Let’s be real though the average person won’t spend more than the typical retail price on a game of $60. If it’s subscription based I would expect to have access to everything and not have to pay extra for more content.

Considering the financial straits Konami's been in

Their financials say otherwise. It's most likely because Konami hasn't been doing anything big in the AAA video game industry nowadays besides PES, but I wouldn't say they're struggling financially.

Infinitas is good enough for me. Another home version would be kind of cool, but other than the potential of getting those TaQ and Y&Co. songs that are missing in Infinitas, there isn't that much of a point.

That seems reasonable I suppose, commendable even. Considering the financial straits Konami's been in, everyone kinda has to accept the PC versions, it's probably never going to be ported to consoles unless Konami finds a way to bring the paid cloud service because from the looks of things, Konami is sticking to home eamuse with this to keep the money flowing in. AND $700!? Nah even that's out of my budget. I will stick to my free ways of playing the game. As far as an offline mode that means cutting all financial support from this game which I know Konami won't do. I'll be completely honest, I'm actually impressed by your passion Trip, even I at one point hoped Konami would return to the old CS ways, but it not those times anymore. Konami is fully committing to service based experiences going forward to keep their money coming in. from players.

Well, the idea is not to completely remove the subscription service, I was thinking more along the lines of providing an optional purchasable OFFLINE mode for those who just want to enjoy the game without the need for any internet connection while those who still pay for the subscription would have access to additional online content, events, and even exclusive songs only attainable with said subscription as a way to incentivize staying on board...besides, in this day and age, everybody is so keen on the online multiplayer experience, hence a lot of people would actually continue paying for the subscription for this very reason. IIDX fanatics like myself would be interested in paying for every song pack in the store AND the optional purchasable OFFLINE mode, and then maybe later along the line, I'd be enticed to experience all features the game has to offer, and purchase a subscription for X months/years (could be on and off throughout the year(s), who knows, but some people always come back some time or another). By going this route, the game will no longer be chained to an online-only DRM for those who decide to purchase the optional OFFLINE mode ($$$), but in order to access all features and online exclusive/social content, the subscription service ($$$) must be purchased as well.

So, at that point, there'd be several sources of possible income from beatmaniaIIDX INFINITAS:

• Subscriptions (consistent)
• Overpriced Music Packs (one-time/semi-consistent depending on future updates)
• Overpriced KOCs (one-time)
• Optional OFFLINE mode (one-time)

If there's a new IIDX song that I think is really awesome, but is only obtainable via paying for the subscription, then I'd definitely pay for that month's subscription in order to obtain it....Konami would be clever to entice us like this in order to further incentivize the subscription...may as well stay on the subscription, no? Yes it's greedy, but at least I'd be able to enjoy that very same song anytime anywhere without the need for an internet connection.

Not only that, I have always been an advocate for trying to get IIDX out there to the general public so that they can see and experience the game for the first time (in the US, of course)......in the past, I've hosted and paid for several arcade lock-ins, held IIDX tournaments, convinced BestBuy to let me setup IIDX in-store, invited friends over to play IIDX at my house, and have been greenlit to setup IIDX in certain video game stores. During those endeavors, I've met a lot of people who found the game very interesting, and they got the chance to play IIDX for the first time, which actually put a big smile on my face. It's not really all about me just reclusin' on a scratch; being able to play IIDX offline anytime anywhere would also make it easier to setup outside of your home, and that'd be good for beatmaniaIIDX INFINITAS as well.

A bit of a tangent, just a little trip down memory lane. Here's just one of the videos I took like 10 years ago at one of my local arcade lock-ins that I paid $50 (every time) for; there were a lot of people that day: (taken with a jailbroken iPhone 3G, so, sorry for the low quality and friendly banter)

Do note that Konami is Konami and they aren't sparing a single yen/dollar anymore. They're heavily against presenting even the oppurtunity for this kind of thing because it only slows down the cash flow.

Adobe doesn't provide one-time payment versions of their Creative Cloud suite (unlike CS) for the same reason. Subscription-only models have become the norm today because they maximize profits.

Also, BMS is a thing. Who said it has to be just IIDX songs?
