1. Try making sure the jackets are named "jacket" instead of whatever name they may have, always make sure to reload once you start up the game.

2. I am not sure about this one.

The jackets show fine for the songs, but it's the group jackets. In all the other themes, they work by naming them "group 001 DDR" or "group 030 DDR A20", etc. Are you saying for this theme it they have to have jacket in the name when putting them in the song folders? I'd find that a little odd since these work in all other themes except for Starlight.

Yes. This was just a couple posts above yours.

This theme is acting like I have no folder jackets even though all my folders have a jacket in them, so it's just giving me the theme's generic folder image. My jackets work in other themes. Does anyone know how to fix this?

Edit: nevermind within seconds of posting this I had the idea to rename them to jacket, tested on one of them and it worked so I'm gonna start renaming my folder jackets now.

Okay, I gotta be doing something wrong. I copied one of the jackets and renamed it all different ways:

group 014 DDR 2013 (default format that works in other themes)
group 014 DDR 2013 jacket
group 014 DDR 2013-jacket
DDR (2013)-jacket
jacket group 014 DDR 2013
jacket DDR 2013
jacket DDR (2013)
jacket

Still not showing....

It’s just “jacket”. Maybe try reloading songs and courses after renaming.

Still nada. I even removed all banners and songs from the cache folder to do a full reload and the group jacket still isn't showing. They They're still supposed to be located in the home directory of the songs, right? Like in my example, I have this jacket in my Songs/DDR (2013)/ folder...

Is there some metric or other .ini change I need to alter?

It should be named "jacket" and in the folder with the songs (in your case just the 2013), not in its own folder. Also try reloading the songs from the options menu.

I've done all that. Reloaded songs from options, reloaded by closing the game and bringing it back up, deleted songs/banners from cache, but still nada in this theme only.

Okay, I'm going to redownload and reinstall the theme again, just to see if something went haywire along the way, so I'll just start fresh to see what happens.

Iirc for songs stepmania searches for a match named "jacket", ending in "-jacket", or as defined in the SSC. If jackets aren't showing up it's probably because of the music wheel settings.

Group jackets aren't something stepmania technically supports, it's dependent on the theme but usually it must be named "jacket" and sometimes requires a banner due to technical limitations.

Okay, I figured out what's going on and it is theme related.

When it comes to game start up for the arcade, the first song seen is from the current version. Example, when you start up DDRA20, and the music wheel first shows, you're in the DDRA20 category with its songs, and the first song is from DDRA20.

When starting up Stepmania, in order for songs to show in an order similar to this, you have to modify songs in the 'SongManager PreferredSongs' file, and then change the DefaultSort entry in metrics from "Group" to "Preferred." With this setup, when starting SM with other themes, it sorts similar to the arcade.

However, if you don't change any of those things; nothing in the PreferredSongs file, and you leave the DefaultSort as Group, SM will start with songs listed by both folder and song in alphabetical order (i.e. First song is Another Phase from DDR (2013), because that's the first folder in my \Songs folder.

When I leave the metrics and PreferredSongs files at the default with no changes, the jackets show up as they should. But if I change the DefaultSort in metrics to Preferred, the jackets do NOT show up, and if SM is windowed, it gives an error saying:

The theme element "Graphics/Banner Preferred" is missing.

So maybe this is the bug, or it more seems like the "Preferred" sort is not working.

Good news with this v1.4.0 hotfix, Preferred Sort works now. Bad news, group jackets still don't show in Preferred.
The other fixes are a-okay!

There is a patch for it at Enciso's github page. Everything works except cutaways.

All righty, I put in an entry on their Bitbucket for the jacket issue when sorting by Preferred, so that's that issue.

Got another question. I just realized that lyrics in Starlight are pretty small and are more midscreen. I went to the _lyrics file (after copying it over) and made edits to the Top value and some others, but I can't make the font any bigger or move the lyrics to be near the bottom of the screen as it should be. Anyone know the edits for that?

They aren't going to be able to fix jackets in preferred sort unless you want to use preferred sort the way they set it up and name your song folders how they want you to name them.

I'd find that a little odd since this would cause everyone to rename their song folders solely for this theme, when Preferred sort works in all the other themes except Starlight. I know it's a minor bug so it's not a big deal to just use Group sort, but still at least they know if they see the entry.

[edit]

Eureka, I figured out the answer to half of my question concerning lyrics placement after some tweaking and troubleshooting. In the Starlight metrics, you have to change the X and Y values to the following:

LyricDisplaySetNoReverseCommand=x,SCREEN_CENTER_X;y,SCREEN_CENTER_Y+320
LyricDisplaySetReverseCommand=x,SCREEN_CENTER_X;y,SCREEN_CENTER_Y-120

This will position them towards the bottom instead of the middle. As for increasing their size, I can't figure that yet. Wanted to see if I could get them the same size as songs listed in courses, but haven't gotten it. But at least positioning is done.

I have a slight issue with the theme (tbh any themes using the DDR A base), where if there aren't an even multiple of 3 songs in a folder, jackets clip over the folder titles in SM. I'm running 5.0.9.

It’s doing that because each row is 3, including the folders.

Ah. So it's not a glitch, it's a theming limitation.
