Can we try to be more accepting for new things and simfile artists please? Some new people might not get the lingo of how things go around here. You gotta start somewhere.
Quoting this for last post on the first page and for truth. Let's give the OP some time to get back to us with some stuff to show before we say anything more.Post #22 · Posted at 2019-08-04 05:18:23am 4.7 years ago

Funnily enough, I was also working on a "DDR III" a long time ago. Doesn't look anything like your guys' takes though
Anyways, good luck on your project. I like seeing what everybody comes up with when making fan mixes (like DDR XX, DDRMAX3/4/5, etc.).

Suggestions: It's still a 2014-esque and arcade theme but I'm sure you knew it, it is early in development
I suggest using another more appropriate theme like X2 as a basis, make sure you get permission from the original theme owner

The 16ths stream jacks are something you don't want to do, and ALOT of the notes are off, but don't worry, I can also provide stepcharts for you so dwbi but u will still need to improve ALOT in simfiling too ^^;

The chart? It honestly needs a lot of work... but before we get to that, I think we need to know if you're aware of the options in the StepMania editor and if you know about the step counter on the right hand side of the editor. For example, do you know how to sync a simfile to a song? Do you know about the Clap option?
If you could link us a copy of the .sm file for that chart, we'll be happy to provide more analysis on the chart itself and give you some advice as to what you can do.

Here's a more detailed guide on making some great simfiles! (hopefully ik what i'm talking about bc otherwise i'm the whole circus then):
INTRO:
Just know that you'll usually be using 4ths (red notes), 8ths (blue notes) and sometimes 16ths (yellow notes). 12ths (green or purple depending on the noteskin) occassionally pop up, and other notes are more rare, usually only appearing depending on the bpm and gimmicks used. You'll have to have some basic music knowledge to determine when you can use other different kinds of notes, but usually you'll be fine on when to use 4ths, 8ths and all that! Just make sure you manually place them, using record can help a little but you'll have to listen to the song, place arrows, go back, play again, and correct; rinse and repeat stuff; it seems tedious at first, but this is the step towards making good simfiles. On a another note, make sure you know how to sync, cut and all that. If you don't, use ArrowVortex for stepping, which is what I use. It has a automatic sync feature, and a dance bot to test patterns and all that goodie stuff uwu
Make sure you know bpm changes and stops too! I rarely use those however, since I'm bad at them haha so but make sure those are on-sync too.
FLOW(?):
- This is essentially how the stepchart plays out, and how it fits with the music in terms of steps, beat and consistency. It's not easy to explain, so hopefully you may get the slightest gist of what I'm saying! When stepping, it's important to keep the beat/steps going as long as the certain parts in the song will allow it, some sections may feature less notes than others or call for a different pattern. For a example (but it is common): Buildups to the drop in a song will likely feature streams, the notes will increase in density or amount in a period of time. Sometimes, some parts of the song will be more mellow, and so less notes are required. Either case, make sure the parts of the chart around these kinds of cases will lead in naturally and not feel extremely jarring. Breaking the pattern you set for areas of the song like: LRUDUL and then it suddenly goes: LRU UL, with a note missing even tho the song may have called you to step in that missing gap, that's an example of when a flow breaks. You will need a sense of rhythm and intuition to master flow in a chart!
PATTERNS: This will essentially guide you on to make charts fun! But you don't always need a crossover in every chart, straightforward charts are fun too, as long as you don't face in the same direction! Plus, place patterns depending on the part of the song, if it warrants it, you just need the intuition again, think of the chart as somewhat of a dance routine. This is the mindset I keep, how do I choreograph this song? Ofc, DDR isn't exactly like real dancing, but regardless, the game is meant to be a dance simulator even if it fails at being a totally accurate one haha, and so have somewhat of that mindset when you step, because it can truly help you with flow and pattern! I got confused when trying to figure out how crossovers worked when you can't doublestep, but this opened up my eyes to how players play, and so just try to think how your feet can alternate between steps on a dance pad.
HOW ENJOYABLE: ^ Patterns need to be comfy, try testing the chart with your feet, adjust the playback speed (not changing the bpm) (i use arrow vortex, idk if SM has this feature lmao), even if you're not good at stepping, when sitting, just shuffle your feet around like you're playing on a mini dance pad, even if it looks weird, it helps! You don't want (un/misintentionally) twisty, turny, and trippy patterns bc the player still needs to see the screen and step on time, even if the chart is meant to be difficult, it still has to be enjoyable and NOT piss everyone off. DDR 2010, DDR HP2, and ULTRAMIX1 are worse case scenarios of such. You also have to remember the note density in a pattern, how fast people can step on time between the arrows, patterns that will allow you to alternate feet, etc so yeah!
MOAR STUFF IDK: sometimes having repitition in a chart is good but don't abuse it but don't wildly change directions or patterns or whatever in the chart either; use good references for charts ur making, look at A20 for good charts or ITG or ppl like Gameson, ledgamer, darkanine, djVERTICAI, chewi, ohaiimian, hooky, etc don't rush simfiling and have fun as always uwu uwu uwu
ik this was a long and cringy read, but there's no way to put it into simpler and less tedious terms (sorry haha), yet this is ultimately helpful in the long run (i think uwu), and good knowledge to have when making ur sims so you become better at what u do!

thanks for the criticism, strangely im just like u
I use arrow vortex, and really aren't that great at stepmania charts.
thank you again though, I'll try to be better on flow and consistency.
p.s. I just wanna say ; when I make charts I do it because well, nobodys made one on the song so I make it myself, but more importantly because I like making/dancing to it myself. When I make them I like to feel the rhythm (popn music is a great example)
rather than focusing on CHAOS, AIR, or FREEZE etc.

Dude if you end up wanting to do practically all the interface and stepping, why not just start your own project?

i really didn't have enough time to work on this, so that was a dumb move, i did this by myself without asking for help which is my fault, and i really didn't have anything to offer so meh ;-;
