I haven't been able to find anything on it, but now that the new Raspberry Pi 4 has been released with a model with 4GB of RAM, would it be capable of running a Linux build of SM5 and be able to do 1080p @ 60fps? Or even 720p @ 60fps? I can imagine the Pi 3's being really really rough to run them on their limited RAM, but I'm really pulling through for this to be viable.

I'm wanting as light of a PC as possible to run it, otherwise I'm stuck with having to makeshift a dock setup of sorts for my laptop (oh, the woes of no dedicab...). I plan on getting one in a couple weeks, and will post about it here if I can get it running. Otherwise, I'd love for input on new/cheap PCs that can handle running it smoothly.

I am very limited in any knowledge when it comes to the raspberry pi but I see no reason why there wouldn't be a functional application for it alongside SM, the program isn't overly complex but with a below average PC build it may hiccup so shoot for something about average, some run of the mill Dell/HP will do fine or you can look for a brand with different options.

If anyone is more versed in raspberry pi/PCs please do add to the thread.

From what I've heard Stepmania runs on the Pi 3 but not super well, so if the specs get a sizeable enough bump you could possibly run it on the Pi 4 without any issues. RAM-wise, you might not even need the 4GB model to get something that works well (some sm5-based arcade games run on only 512MB!). I might try running it on my Pi 3 later to see if I can get an idea for how well it might run on the Pi 4.

If you want a safe bet for a sm setup, I picked up a small Dell Optiplex at a thrift store for around $35 (I can list specs if you want them), and it's been running SM5.1 and StepF2 under linux super well. If you go that route, you might need to get additional parts (I needed an HDD and RAM for my PC, and I eventually upgraded to a cheap ebay GPU later to improve performance in StepF2), so your mileage may vary depending on what PC you end up finding.

I'd personally pick buying a used PC but if the Pi 4 ends up being able to run Stepmania then that could definitely be a great option too, especially with how small the Pi is.
