"hi"
So...since I failed to vote this week, it appears I don't receive VIP points? (Even though my partner voted?) I think it may have worked differently last time and I just want to clarify.

(I played all the files a couple times Friday but ran out of energy deciding votes and didn't expect yesterday to go as it did)

I'm pretty sure it worked the same last year. You don't get any VIP points if you don't vote, even if your partner voted.

Next to last again. What do I expect?

Considering how close the points between rank 5-9 were, I think we still did well, but I am honestly surprised how low our file is.
Oh, our simfile was just not hard enough! Next time, we should just include a 12+ Expert chart. :^)

All in all, I'd collab with ForcedNature again and I bet he's getting in the VIP room, so I'll cheer him on!

Aww, thank you! I will gladly work with you again -- it has been really fun.

And that's a wrap on the main weeks of the 2019 Summer Contest! On behalf of all the showrunners here, thank you very much to everyone who participated this time around. There was so much good stuff put out, I can't even believe it. I do believe we have some final standings to discuss for VIP room status, yeah? All right, you asked for it:

Final Results

1. djVERTICAI - 138 points
Dude. Incredible. The fact that each file I made managed to get a 1st-3rd place (even if week 4 was a technicality)...I mean, compared to literally any other time I've tried something like this...unbelievable. Thank you very, very much for at least giving a polite nod to the stuff I've been working on, because it's miraculous I'm even helping to run things here in the first place. Of course, there is a very high chance with the VIP points reset it won't matter and I can easily throw it away.......uhhh, I'll just enjoy this view for now!

2. Gameoson - 118 points (also killer this time around, some things never change)
3. DDRDAIKENKAI - 66 points (solid start and finish, well done overall)
4. Pandemonium X - 64 points (all those points and still no VIP guarantee, eh--you always make good files though)
5. TikalFan9000 - 61 points (insert dry witty remark here)
6. VanEden - 59 points (I actually super dug your music choices this year, good stuff)
7. DigitalBasic - 51 points (thank you for consistently liking my files all the time for some reason :') )
8. ohaiimian - 50 points (glad you got some files in, care to claim this year's VIP too?)
9. talkion - 45 points (hey! new guy did pretty good! keep it up! [by uma--lol JOKES])
10. ledgam3r1279 - 37 points (good to see you here too, excited to see what you pull out)
11. hooky - 36 points (sorry for deadline mishaps, but do your best here!)
12. FoRCeDNaTuRe - 20 points (whew, just made it! all right, make these rounds count)
13. mf32892 - 17 points (despite lacking votes in the last round, you're still in--ta-daaa)
14. darkanine - 15 points (again, yOu'Re WeLcOmE ...I'm still very happy with our song though~ )

And we actually have a tie for the last spot--lucky you!
15. Astroman129 & Nezemarth - 14 points

Here's everyone else who got some points this year:
Feraligatr - 12 points
_|/-\43D - 10 points
KevinRocker10 - 9 points
K-Step - 9 points
01angel - 8 points
Braeden47 - 8 points
Densetsu.EXE - 6 points
TonyAkita - 6 points
HealingDMax300 - 4 points
SomethingRandom - 3 points
brunobg24 - 2 points
NuVirus - 1 point

So there you have it! If you're on the top list, you're in the VIP room, back down to zero points--time to go another round!
If you're not, then again, thank you very much for playing, and we hope to see you at the next contest.
__________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Meanwhile.......I hope none of you VIP contenders forgot that we'd be switching things up a bit this year. Per my request, we're giving the first two weeks a bonus theme, so that everyone will try a little harder since they were lucky enough to make it to this point. No time for slacking now! You want this spot, you better earn it! So let's kick things up a notch: for my round, I was inspired by Oni-91's Simfile Buffet from a couple years ago, hence it is conveniently dubbed:

VIP Round 1 - [Oni Mode]

All you have to do is pick one of the attributes from the following list, and apply it to your simfile. Just one! So easy! Gooood luck~
*cue Sol Cosine Job 2* muahahaHAHAHAAAA

- Song runs fully over 300 bpm.
- Song runs fully under 80 bpm.
- Song title contains at least two of the three letters Q, X, and Z.
- Song does not have a specific drum beat (extra percussion allowed, like classical music).
- Song runs in a non-4/X or 3/X time signature.
- Hardest chart contains at least 1000 steps.
- Hardest chart contains at least 150 freeze arrows.
- Hardest chart contains at least 5 seconds of stops.
- Hardest chart uses at least 5 lifts.

Extra notes!
- The bpm ones mean "for the entire file". No gimmick slowdown/speedups allowed beyond the expected limit!
- For Q-X-Z, it either needs to have both Q and X, Q and Z, or X and Z. Or all three(?!).
- As long as there is no drum beat that designates the main timing, there can still be things like cymbals or shakers or anything else. (Some Keyboardmania files operate like this, for example.)
- 5 seconds of stops equals total time of stops used (like Gameoson's theme last year).
- haha what even is a lift
A lift is when you have to lift your foot off the panel when the icon (a blank square in SM5, I think) passes the arrow region. So you have to start holding it down, then lift at the appropriate time. It's like instead of a DDR jump, it's a Dancerush jump. Get it?
if only someone knew what a lift was lol oh well

When you're submitting, I think putting it as "[VIP1 Oni Mode] - File Name" should do. And if you have any questions, hopefully I'll have some answers. Let the final games begin!!

Thanks for voting for me, guys! This is the first time I've gotten into the VIP room (and it was with just two simfiles iirc) so I'm proud of myself (:

This theme looks great. It kinda reminds me of the dish theme from 2017(?). EDIT: lol I missed the part where you said you were inspired by it. And this day in 2019, Scott forgot how to read.

Not that I have any intention of murdering anybody with a 19 this week but just to clarify, do jumps count as one or two steps?

I would generally count them as two. I think you're allowed to take it either way as you see fit, but on my system, I'm fairly certain they're worth two. Also, uh-oh.

No need to uh-oh, I'm almost positive I'm doing a 5/4 time signature this week. I just thought it'd be good to clarify. Wink

( °o°)

I'm glad that my entry into the VIP Round didn't push anybody else out because there was a tie for 15th place. Otherwise I would feel hella guilty for just swooping in during the last round and snagging a VIP spot.

Also, I want to thank djVERTICAI for accepting my request to collab with him this round. It was really fun making a song together; I learned quite a bit. And making a stepchart together was fun too!

Well, good luck to the VIP Round participants! Hopefully those that didn't make it in this round will have their shot again next year.

I just wanted to echo the sentiment that this week's files overall were very enjoyable. Great job y'all.

I'm glad to see as the years pass and as more people continue to participate in these contests, the higher the quality of the simfiles produced become. It's always a treat to be able to participate every year. Thanks to those who might have voted for me throughout this year. I hope that the files I make for my own entertainment continue to bring you enjoyment.

Good luck to us all continuing in the contest!

Well I tried. Not that I usually do well in contests but I did particularly mediocre this time around so sorry for the meh files. Still trying to find a consistent stepping style since I'm all over the place with how I step things. I can place top ten one round and last next lol

Anyways, good luck to the VIP Round participants!

Damn, doing good with 4th, despite not winning a week.

Also I know what I'm doing for this week...

Thanks for all the votes every week! 9th is certainly a lot higher than I expected to finish. My first contest has been a blast so far.

I have a question about the time signature requirement - does it have to run for the whole song? Like if a song switches between 7/4 and 4/4 midway through, does it still count? What's the threshold?

Yeah dawg, you're killing it for a first run. As for your question: I'd say whole song. At the very least, there can't be any sections of 4/4 or 3/4 in it.

Since I'm not going to be continuing as predicted, I just want to say thanks to all of you.

Especially you, Daikenkai. You were right about our simfiles improving. I had fun playing all the files we've made and I even noticed newcomers improving as well. I'm also glad to have submitted a file for each theme until now. Between Summer Work and art, it's been hard working on Stepmania files, but I'm glad for all the charts that did take top ten and all the others where... I really should have worked harder on.

Anyways, since I'm out, I'll be doing my own thing as usual, maybe even upload more simfiles or original music. Here's to the VIP contestants!

Try Extra Stage!

hi
though i'm not participating in VIP, for the sake of clarity, does a song have to run entirely in a non 4/x or 3/x time signature for the whole song or for a portion of it?

nvm did not see it was answered already
