Granted, I feel like it is a Japanese version of the font... Will need to dig deeper...

The Swiss 721 series is basically Helvetica but with the serial numbers filed off (like how Zurich is basically Univers, and their Square 721 is Eurostile). Their Swiss 911 is Helvetica Compressed, and 921 is Helvetica Inserat (the one with the weird open-topped 4).

The "O" had some additional processing in the graphic.

...wow, that font actually looks so ass. I don't know how they managed to make it look alright in that banner.

you crop out the text and look on a font-finder website and see if its in the catalogue of fonts. when making the banner for this i tried to find the font, but got nothing. besides, after years of makin shit, i can tell when a font is custom or not

No font-finder websites could identify it so I figured it wasn't gonna be possible to find. But jch02140 found it. I bet there are tons of other examples where that happened on this too. As far as MAX-EXTREME banners/backgrounds go... The only font I can think of that's customized is the MORE THAN I NEEDED TO KNOW text. (there might be a few others, but I really doubt Blue Impulse is one of them)

Now with that said, it's true it'd probably be easier to use a substitute or reconstruct the text from scratch but there's probably a reason why Zonifyy is asking in the first place.

I don't think it's hand-made. The kanji seems to adhere to a set design style (same heights, consistent stroke widths) and doesn't seem to do any of the things I expect hand-drawn things to have. The problem is that we only have the kanji to go off, and I'm very much a Roman alphabet guy when it comes to identifying stuff.

I don't think it's hand-made either. I can go with one substitute for now, which is the US banner font since I also don't know the jacket one.

For the Japanese Blue Impulse... I have been trying to identify it but there are no exact matches to any of the well-known Japanese font foundries I know.

This leads me to believe that it could have been using 2 different fonts (one for the kanji and another just for "い" for the graphics... and possibly with additional modification done on top of that.

It is not uncommon to use different fonts in Japanese texts, especially since there are Japanese fonts containing only Kana (either Hiragana, Katakana, or both). This allows the designers to mix and match as they see fits.
