"Ace gold edition" coming to R1USA

I've said it in the WACCA thread, and I'll say it again: This better come to all locations, or I'll be pissed. XD

(I know I've said similar things when other new games are announced to come to R1, but I live near one of the very few locations that doesn't have Project Diva or Tsum Tsum. We just recently got House of the Dead: Scarlet Dawn, but the speakers weren't working properly, and they removed the IC card feature. )

Watch the gold cabs come here but it's still DDR A.

Gold cabs should be A20 right out of the box, but we're probably still going to have to wait until late August/early September to play on white cabs. And even then I fear that all that "gold cab exclusive" stuff is 100% serious.

Apparently it's the Japanese versions, with the Japan licensed music/exclusives and all.

If A20 gets updated on white cabs in the US, what does that mean for these gold ones? Do they just magically become US region machines or are they actually worse at that point?

I wouldn't conclude it like that. If it were between getting A20 now without premium mode or (speculating here) getting A20 sometime in the future without Asia exclusives but with premium mode, I feel that the former is the better option. I think we'll get a localized version eventually by software update; that'll be its own issue. But for now, being able to play all the Asia exclusives and new A20 songs along with having Ace to fall back on seems better to me than people are making it out to be...

That's a good question. Some songs are specifically exclusive to the gold cabs. Golden League and Dan courses are also exclusive (Dan courses specifically say this under the How to Play area, and Golden League...well...I think the name itself is a bit of a hint).

If we got A20 and it fell in line with how we got A, the licenses for the most part would be available; Happy Synthesizer, Houkago Stride, and Iro wa nioedo chirinuru wo were added a month after DDR A came out in Japan and the US still got those songs when it arrived. We just didn't get any other license after it landed in the US.

Even without those, that means with Premium you have unlocks and Extra Stage on top of .25x speed options.

You are literally saying having anime licenses from the last mix is more important than getting a 4th song per set and unlockables. On top of that, you are saying the cab that is supposed to have exclusive content not having that content is somehow a better option than the cab with actual unlocks.

Well, hopefully someone will play the machines and we can get some kind of confirmation soon. (Also hoping that Temecula getting the machine first will also mean the other Inland Empire location will get it, as well. >>)

The speed mods and dark filters are tied to the website, not the game itself.

As cool as it is to be able to play the new ddr a20 songs early, what about after that? You can't get extra stage, nor can you unlock songs like Avenger. So you'll play everything you want to play new in like six sessions. Unless you really, really wanted to play the Japan-only licenses.

This is a really backwards idea that's going to bite both round1 and Konami in the US when the gold cabinet exclusivity runs out.

Okay, I'd like to address a few points here:

- What makes you think Konami would change their mind and go through another round of licensing fees, etc. to add the licenses to the American version when they haven't done that for 3 years now?

- You talk in the context of playing on A20 only. Since the vast majority of R1s that are getting a gold cab at the moment already have a white cab running Ace with the aforementioned premium play (and if they don't, there are likely to be other white cabs in proximity), players have an option to fall back on if they want to access those features.

- Yeah, no premium play or Dan mode, etc. sucks. But it's likely that R1s only have it running JP build because Konami doesn't even have a NA build sorted out or finished yet. It's likely that we only got A20 this early in the first place cause R1 was able to use the original JP build anyway. And if A20 does get a NA build by software update, you'll be able to play those on the white cabs and access those features.

TLDR, unless Konami is ass stupid, we'll get localized A20 with premium play and the like eventually. So having A20 this early WITH the licenses we can't normally play and having Ace to fall back on seems like a decent compromise for now

I'm disappointed, but not surprised.

What makes you think that they're gonna keep the white cabs at all the locations where they bring in gold cabs? I can tell you that the Round 1 location I go to (Exton) is already practically to capacity in the Music Game section and A20 coming would likely mean A leaving to make space.

My Round 1 still has DDR X and 2 Aces so I'm not going to worry about this.
