Even with the 40% price cut I wouldn't risk it tbh

I recently got one from a very good friend...Have to say, The games on this system is slow. I hacked it with a few game I wanted to test, and so far they all ran better than the stock games. The Controller works great for StepMania 5, It gives me great nostalgia of the old DDR games. I'll try 5th MIX and 3rd ReMIX on the PS Classic soon enough.//

How simple is it to hack? And are we yet at the stage we can add in DualShock support?

I believe it's actually really simple, given the emulator it runs on.

Here is what I've found out about the PS Classic (Rhythm Edition)...//

- All DDR games boot up but its not syncing right even if I fiddle with the timing options.//
- This is the same with Beatmania & Pop'N Music.//
- Parappa, Um Jammer Lammy, Bust a Groove 1&2 suffer this as well...Reason why it wasn't included in the 20.//

Hacking is as simple as formatting a USB drive and adding the Hack in the root. As far as I know, DualShock support is not ready yet...//

DDR 4th, extramix and 5th mix have sync. option only.

The other issue is the pad. Idk if PS classic could read pads.

"Yuuki Mishima for Tekken"
Quick review.

+ Tekken, Ridge Racer, IQ, Mr Driller and Puzzle Fighter are all great arcade fun
+ MGS and FF7, because they're fucking MGS and FF7.
+ Wild Arms and Persona for some lesser-known JRPG goodness.
+ The look and feel of the hardware is great
+ Just like the NES/SNES ones, this is easy as fuck to hack
- Terrible interface with no interesting options
- No dualshock support
- PAL and NTSC games mixed together because fuck you
- Syphon Filter? Rainbow Six? Fucking TOSHINDEN? Ew. Get it out of here.
- Overpriced

Overall: This is inbetween the NES and SNES Classics for me in quality. Better than the former, worse than the latter. I would honestly say that you shouldn't get ANY of them UNLESS you plan to hack it, however. None of them feel like they're worth much money until you get throwing all the games to your heart's content on it. Give it a 6/10, get it on sale, mod it, you're laughing.

So, not sure if anyone noticed this, but a few days ago, the PS Classic was only $40 at Walmart for a while; I missed that train, but I got one on Amazon for the low, low price of $25.

https://pbs.twimg.com/media/DzqOSIGVsAE3POr.jpg:large

There's a ton of hacks for it now, ranging from simply plugging a keyboard to one of the controller ports and hitting escape to access the emulator's menu and fixing the whole "PAL games running slow on 60hz TVs" thing, to replacing games via Bleemsync.

So yeah, I think now is the perfect time to grab one of these if you know about the hacks, because it's starting to become difficult to buy a new one on Amazon for a low price, and I'm sure that once it happens, it's gonna turn into a "collector's item" and be $150 or some ridiculous price.

Snagged one the other day at the $40 price point from Walmart. Pretty sure that's the cheapest they're going to get. Looking forward to putting all of these games on it and then never touching it again.

Came in the mail a day earlier than anticipated; my first impressions so far is that the box felt very cheap, and it wouldn't power on through the TV's USB port, so I had to pull out a spare wall plug to get it working. Afterwards, I tried adding in Bleemsync on there; the flash drive I got works, but it's only 3GB. Hopefully, by the time Bleemsync 1.0.1 drops, my new 128 GB USB 2.0 flash drive will arrive in the mail. Smile

At least for now, I can now fix the PAL games and run them properly on my TV.

..

Update; the flash drive didn't work, probably because it was too much power for the PSC? I'm getting one more flash drive tomorrow (one that I saw someone use in a youtube video), and if that one doesn't work, then I'm gonna give up on hacking this stupid thing. XD

...

Update #2: So, my 2nd USB stick came, and it actually works! Now I have 120-ish GB to work with instead of 3, and that's plenty of space for a good chunk of PS1 games. Tongue AND, no need to solder power currents or need a powered hub.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B007YX9OGW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I don't know if it will work with the 256 GB version, but the 128 GB and lower versions should work fine!

I've said it before and I'll say it again, the NES, SNES and PS1 Classics are all worthless until you mod them to have gamelists that you've personally selected. Then, they all become pretty cool.

NGL, hacking the PSC is a huge pain in the ass; not only do you have to find a compatible USB stick that doesn't stress out the system's power, you also have to use Bleemsync's website (instead of using an actual app a la Hakchi 2 CE), which I haven't had any success adding in any games with so far; even straight-up BIN and CUE files are either not recognized or time out after a while (maybe the console "browns out" while data is being transferred?

At least with the NES and SNES classic, you don't need to make any further investments in hacking your system unless you want to hardmod it and add in SD card slots or whatever (hell, you can add in the entire NES library with the NES Classic, and a good chunk of the SNES library in the latter without needing any additional tweaking, outside of running Hakchi 2 CE to add in those games/RetroArch files, etc.)

tl;dr, I might try again with the PSC, once Bleemsync acts more like Hakchi 2 and doesn't make me feel buyer's remorse for buying 2 different flash drives, but for now, I pretty much give up on it. :/

To be honest, if you can't make a five second Google search, you shouldn't be attempting to mod a system in the first place...

Use Autobleem.

I'm honestly thinking about doing that; I almost forgot that even existed. >>

UPDATE: Tried out Autobleem, and it works... mostly! It's able to recognize some of the games I've added on there, but not all of them; whatever, better than nothing. Supposedly Bleemsync is gonna have a local app in the future, but this will keep me busy in the meantime.
