A few changes worth mentioning:
The NO BEMANI rule no longer applies.
Bidding is a lot less complicated this time around.

Honestly wish you kept the NO BEMANI rule. It was fine last year, and there were barely any faults in it since it's just every other week it's that.

I mean, I'll participate nonetheless, but that is a bit disappointing the rule doesn't apply to this year anymore.

I wish so too, but by its very nature, the rule stifles creativity, which is the entire purpose of this competition.

Also, there were significantly fewer BEMANI songs than I would have expected from last year.

how does using music not culled from a select number of songs stifle creativity? yeah, there may be thousands of songs in the BEMANI world, but that's absolutely nothing compared to what's out there outside of it. some of the most genius, creative, interesting music i've heard never touched a BEMANI title.
just seems kinda silly to allow people to take the easy way out instead of explore the wide world of music.

Exactly my point, but creativity cannot be forced. People have to explore outside their comfort zone independently.

It's not like BEMANI songs (or BEMANI-sounding songs) are easy to step anyway. At least... in my experience.

The good news is none of my planned songs come from BEMANI so it won't be a problem either way. At most, there will be one from BOFU2017 and it doesn't appear to have been stepped.

When someone steps the same BEMANI music ad nauseam I worry they can only work with that one style and anything else they ever work with will be bad unless they explore and experiment with it, but are they honestly going to do that in a competitive setting where mistakes will not be rewarded? In their shoes, i'm never straying from what I know in that competition if I can avoid it every time.

BEMANI every other week does not force creativity, nor does it stifle creativity, in the weeks where there is none. It's actively encouraged and often brings out the most creative files.
