The goal (in my eyes at least) is :
We all work on our stamina, by making a really long course (or courses) of songs, and praxctice playing them every day, until we have the stamina to pass the whole course in one session.
-
You're more likely to put on weight doing it, tbh.
People on the last page were referring to it as a weight loss thing, so I guess you could look at it from that perspective if you want. I'm personally doing it to work on my leg muscles.

Agreed. I don't need to lose any weight. I just need to build up my stamina. Also, how is this idea going to be pitched? I mean for a workout tracker on the site?

That would be quite an interesting addition to the site actually.

I mean there is no form of CS tracking for any game on this site and I think it would be a great asset. It would have users become more involved in the site. Some people don't have access to any of the games listed in the AC score tracker.

I highly agree. Maybe we should talk to al2k4 about it?

That is if he hasn't seen this thread already. Plus I think we would need a larger number of people to vouch for this.

True, and I've seen him in this thread before, just not recently after a few of these ideas were made.

Also a tracker would be good the committed users who can't play everyday. I live on the third floor in an apartment. It wouldn't be fun to be disqualified or booted from the group because some lady downstairs likes to complain.

In response to the question of regaining stamina:
The more you play a song, the more you'll memorize it. As such, your muscles will also remember it, so you won't be getting much of an exercise in playing the same charts over and over. Playing with Shuffle will definitely help out since you won't know how the chart will be. You'll know the rhythm, but you won't know the crossovers!

I like this idea a lot. Plus we can put together a different set of songs that has generally the same difficulty as others to avoid, as silent said, playing the same step charts over again.

Some sort of tracker would be amazing.
I figured that we'd each play the course once per day, and then post our results, and a screenshot of the results screen, to show how far we got in the course, and our score. It isn't a contest, but it'll be fun to compare how were progressing, and it's always good to have other people recognise your progress and help encourage you!
I guess you'd also talk about your own goals, and how you're progressive towards them. If you're doing this to lose weight, you can tell us how much you're losing, and if you're doing any other exercise to help you with the challenge, you can talk about that!
Generally, just a daily update to let everyone know how it's going?

Why don't we move the discussion of a tracker to site requests? All else can stay here in this thread.

ZIV's Biggest Loser Signup Sheet
Name : Lucie
Starting weight : 70kg
Play level : DDR: 10 (but not the most difficult songs) ITG: 10-11 (okay, more 10 than 11 but I`m improving very fast)
I`d like to add one point....
Playing since: DDR: April 2010 ; ITG: September 2010
Do you have :
Access to the PS2 console games? : Yes (only EU)
Access to Stepmania (with a mat) : Yes
new point...
Access to an Arcade: DDR: Yes (once a month) It`s an Extreme ITG: rarely.... (no dedicab in Germany + not enough money)
An hour every day to work out on DDR : At the moment No because of my neighbors. But very soon I`ll move to a new apartment and then I`ll play 2-4 hours every day, like in my beginner days.
The Stamina Problem:
Between June and September I had a 2 month break... my stamina was very bad after that and I had to start almost 2 levels below what I was playing earlier (I was Level 9 then. So I had to start at Level 7 ...lol)
But after only 2 weeks most 9s were no Problem anymore.. but it took very long till I could pass new 10s again... before the 2 months break I just passed my first 10.
My 2nd 10 was in October..
2 month break was really not good...
So when people are doing 6 month or one year breaks the loss of stamina must be very heavy (when the don`t do other sports in this time)
Haha, just keep on playing...every day... just playing as long as possible at personal (level/stamina)limit helps very much.

So I can hope I can pass more 11s soon.

This is just a quick mock-up to explain the idea. For this example, I've used DDRMAX USA 2, since that's what most of the early signups seem to have.
The idea is that every week, everyone taking part will attempt to clear a 20-song course, without any breaks inbetween the songs. It's upto each individual whwther they practice the course every day, or only attempt it once or twice a week. Daily upates are appreciated, because it means we can all keep track of where we stand, and get feedback / advice / encouragement.
For people using a PS2, you'll have to create the following course. I'm not sure if it's fits in as one course, so if someone could check thatm it'd be great. If it doesn't, you can just create several smaller courses, play them back to back, and take a screenshot of the result screen each time.
For people using Stepmania, I'll create a pack which contains all the songs you need, plus the course files and the default Stepmania settings we'll use for the challenge.
The 20-song course I've mocked up for an example is below. It's based on the principle of exercise reps, so it's actually 4 repetitions of 5 songs. The songs ramp up in difficulty for 5 songs, and then drop off to an easy song, before raming up again :
01. Let's Groove (6)
02. Dream A Dream (7)
03. Busy Child (7)
04. Groove (8)
05. Afronova (9)
06. Keep On Liftin (5)
07. Dive More Deep & Deeper (7)
08. Will I? (7)
09. Lovin You (8)
10. So Deep (9)
11. Bad Routine (6)
12. Heaven (7)
13. The Shining Polaris (7)
14. Spin The Disc (8)
15. Tsugaru (9)
16. more deep (6)
17. Don't Stop (7)
18. A Little Bit Of Ecstacy (7)
19. Drifting Away (8)
20. Twilight Zone (9)
-
After the first week, another 5 songs will be added to the course
21. Days Go By (6)
22. Do It Right 80s Electro (7)
23. Jam & Marmalade (8)
24. Can't Stop Fallin In Love (8)
25. Breakdown (9)
-
After the second week, another 5 songs will be added
26. I Need You (6)
27. Celebrate Nite (7)
28. Tomorrow Perfume (7)
29. Radical Faith (8)
30. Kakumei (9)
-
For the final week, another 10 songs are added, for the truly insane people to attempt. This is a little different, because it has a proper cool-down section at the end. If you're doing the whole thing as a regular weekly workout, this is pretty important.
31. Get Down Tonight (6)
32. Put Your Faith In Me (6)
33. Kind Lady (7)
34. Burning Heat (9)
35. I feel.. (9)
36. Ghosts (8)
37. Love At First Sight (7)
38. Celebrate Nite Euro Trance (8)
39. Try 2 Luv. U (5)
40. Think Ya Better D (5)

One .rar file to download. It'll contain all 40 songs, and 4 different course files.
On the first week, you play the "ZIV's Biggest Loser Week 1" Nonstop Course. Second week, you play Week 2, and so on. Each course is just the previous week's course, with more songs added on at the end. Some people will never get past the first 20 songs, but will still get a very effective DDR workout from it.
We'll use songs from whatever PS2 game the most people have access to. Anyone who doesn't have that game can easily make an alternative couse, which follows the same difficulty format, and avoids boss songs. It's just more fun if we're all doing the same one
