"Just Play Along"

Last updated: 2016-02-25 02:08am
So basically I want to make a Beware's DDR EXTREME simulation sort of thing but for DDR 2014, and without any of the reprogramming and stuff like that, unless anybody would like to do that. I like to be up to date when it comes to my StepMania 5 setup. I want everything as close to the latest game as possible, and that is DDR 2014 (as-of-writing). Obviously such a thing won't be perfect, but you can always tryyyy...

Here's what you want for your own DDR 2014 "simulation":

1. This theme, along with the background dancer videos available in the thread:
http://zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/viewthread.php?threadid=6976
Mirror for BG dancer videos: http://www.mediafire.com/download/alem82z8o5bl4d8/BG_Movies_%28from_NG%29.zip

2. The announcer and noteskins for this DDR X2 theme:
http://zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/viewthread.php?threadid=4920

3. The simfiles for every song in DDR 2014 (with their respective background videos):
Afterwards, go to your Stepmania simfiles folder and make individual folders with the following names:
DanceDanceRevolution 1stMIX
DanceDanceRevolution 2ndMIX
DanceDanceRevolution 3rdMIX
DanceDanceRevolution 4thMIX
DanceDanceRevolution 5thMIX
DanceDanceRevolution 6thMIX MAX
DanceDanceRevolution 7thMIX MAX2
DanceDanceRevolution 8thMIX EXTREME
DanceDanceRevolution SuperNOVA
DanceDanceRevolution SuperNOVA2
DanceDanceRevolution X
DanceDanceRevolution X2
DanceDanceRevolution X3
DDR 2013
DDR 2014

Drop the simfiles into their respective folders afterwards. If you want to save time and download the .zip Pack for every arcade game's Simfile Category on Z-I-V's Simfiles page, make sure to re-download the songs with (V) next to the name, and their .AVI files. I just CTRL+F and type "(V)" to save time. Also remove any songs not present in DDR 2014 for authenticity, and always download simfiles that have (AC) in the name. Also watch out for simfiles that have been updated more recently than the packs and overwrite those (By clicking "Last Updated")
Simfileshttps://zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/simfiles.php?category=simfiles
Song List https://remywiki.com/DanceDanceRevolution_(2014)_Full_Song_List

4. These jackets for every arcade game's folder (which I posted myself in the latest reply, but do not take credit for):
You can also find these in every main DDR AC release's respective remywiki page. Drop these inside their respective folders that you made previously.
https://zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/viewthread.php?threadid=7139

5. TERRA's ever snow and Sacred Oath 2013 replacement jacket:
These two songs have new jackets since DDR 2013, but the simfiles in Zenius-I-Vanisher use the old jackets. If you want the new jackets, replace the image ending in "-jacket.png" with these two inside the song's folders.
ever snow: https://remywiki.com/images/b/b9/Ever_snow_TERRA.png
Sacred Oath: https://remywiki.com/images/5/56/Sacred_Oath.png

6. This replacement for a line of text in the Preferences.ini:
You can find it by searching for %APPDATA% on the Windows search, then going to Roaming>StepMania 5>Save>Preferences.ini, then opening it with Notepad. This is so that the timing and judgements given in game more closely resemble the frame-rate based timing of DDR arcade games. They are also used by Beware's DDR EXTREME simulation!

Copy the following code, then look for something similar to it in the .ini, highlight it and then paste.
TimingWindowSecondsAttack=0.135000
TimingWindowSecondsHold=0.250000
TimingWindowSecondsMine=0.191666
TimingWindowSecondsRoll=0.500000
TimingWindowSecondsW1=0.016666
TimingWindowSecondsW2=0.033333
TimingWindowSecondsW3=0.108333
TimingWindowSecondsW4=0.158333
TimingWindowSecondsW5=0.191666

Additionally, look for and replace these two lines as well (for pads)
PadStickSeconds=0.050000
JudgeWindowAdd=0.001500

7. These replacement .sm's I made for pre-SuperNOVA background videos to play correctly:
The .sm files on the Official Simfiles that contain videos usually don't have the video start time added to the .sm, so I did it myself. For videos to start playing at the correct timing, replace the .sm's for each respective song with these.
https://www.mediafire.com/?6zndsrn9vv799wt

8. ... finally, in StepMania 5's Advanced Settings, switch Scoring System to DDR SuperNOVA2.

You're done! Have fun Smile Feel free to contribute anything that brings us closer to a more accurate simulation of DDR 2014. I will continue to update the main thread with my tweaks and findings, so let me know if any videos need re-scripting, or if I missed anything above. I take no credit for any of the links and content I provided above, I just put together the hard work of many different great people. Maybe sometime I could upload a .zip with everything set-up like Beware, crediting all who contributed. It will take almost 9GB, though!

To-Do list:
I. Group.ini files for each series folder to have the songs in the same order as in the arcade (Licensed>Originals>Challenge)
II. Hide non-DDR noteskins without deleting them (as DDR noteskins I linked reference default noteskins)
III. Accurate Shock Arrow Timing Windows
IV. Song Genres on all .sm files to sort by other BEMANI games, BEMANI crossover events, licenses, etc.
V. Remove wait time between first measure of music and the start of the music.
VI. Fix incorrect grading in results screen not matching up with SN2 Scoring System (i.e. getting AAA's with 989,000-ish, etc.)
VII. Extra Attack, Boss on Parade, Replicant-D-Ignition, etc.
VIII. Be on the look out for updates to theme, simfiles, noteskins, and announcer.

Full Song List (As of 02/17/2016):

The default note skin's of DDR has been the same since DDR MAX there's really no differences except for the marvelous star when you hit marvelous. I would suggest that wait until the next DDR 2014 update from risk cause that version has improved graphics and a RDI mode (kinda) and the other DDR Arcade stuff. MadkaT is ripping the noteskins so you might wanna check out his thread

"Simfiling"
The only problem with creating a full on DDR simulation from Stepmania is limitations. I'm fairly certain it's possible to create the arcade experience with Stepmania, but there are numerous features in the arcade game that just can't be recreated. Some of them are as follows: Replicant D-ignition, Yuniver Hills, and most importantly, stages where you could have your own .avi file playing in the background (e.g. Replicant D-action stages). Honestly, Stepmania was never meant to give you the full DDR Arcade experience. It's more or less, DDR shaped to your liking. I'd hate to say this, but if you want a full arcade experience, just play actual DDR. If you're desperate though, you can change the song order in Stepmania. In the Title Translit section of a .sm file, give it an appropriate label (e.g. 01, zz01, etc.). From there, build upon the letters and digits, and your songs are sorted to your liking. Just keep in mind, this will mess up the song order in the ABC sorting. I hope you find a way to fully recreate the arcade experience in Stepmania, but for now, keep your spirits high. Like I said, with Stepmania, you can create your own little DDR, the way you want it. ;)

lua coding can't play .avi files in background stages. Someone would have to recreate the stage via 3D modeling software, and even then, I doubt someone could incorporate .avi files with their 3D animation.

Actually, in StepMania 5, that's unnecessary, I think. At least certain themes (I do not know if it works by default, since I've never tried it outside of a few themes) can read a 'group.ini' file in a group's folder, and one of the things that can be specified is song order. The D3NEX and FIXED Project packs both make use of this.

Has access to CS 9th-EMP+PB+US, uses extended KOCs.

I've been keeping an eye on afdjacp (Gene) for quite some time now, hoping to get his latest updates on his DDR X2, X3 vs 2ndMIX, 2013 and 2014 themes, as well as his noteskins and announcer, with no luck. I did get to download the first three themes, but they were pretty rusty, and his videos showed much more progress than the actual downloads warranted for. Such a tease, especially considering his content is the best i've seen thus far. :/

I assume from his channel that they were on StepMania Factory, which is down.

That's why I mentioned a "lazy" simulation. It doesn't have to be completely accurate. I don't mind Replicant D-ignition because those are timed events, they come and go. They're definitely better enjoyed at arcades. The stages with backgrounds would be nice, but I'm completely aware that it's pretty much impossible to have working accurately on StepMania, which I'm fine with. I'm fine with having the videos play by themselves without the stage. Really i'd be fine with a fairly accurate theme, noteskins, and announcer, but the ones that I've managed to find show inaccuracies that I never quite saw with pre-EXTREME content in 3.9, and you can tell from the get go that it's not very refined. That's why I made this thread. I don't want a complete simulation, but I want to see how far we can go. Smile

This is great to know! Could this be used to have all caps>no caps>japanese>challenge-only songs in that order for each group as seen in arcades?

You may add DDR-related themes and the announcer as well. Even though the latest is Stepmania 5, I personally do not recommend it. I am currently using Stepmania 3.95 because I have a DDR SN2 theme for it. This is the link where you can download the theme. https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/32684302/ddr/DDRSN2.rar Announcer is also included in the archive.

Yes, as you state the order song by song. I don't know what it does with unlisted songs though.

In that case, let me contribute. Peter Lawrence made a noteskin similar to that of DDR 2014's 'Note' Noteskin. It flashes stars only on the 'Marvelous' timing. Here. If you already have the noteskin, disregard this post. I used to have a DDR X-2014 announcer, similar to the 2014 AC announcer. I'm going to search through my old files to see if it's still there.

I'm currently in the process of re-scripting Dance Dance Revolution, GRADUATION and bag's video scripts from Beware's DDR EXTREME simulation to be synced correctly with their respective simfiles in the site's Simfiles page. I do this because these three songs retain their original DDR EXTREME background videos starting with DDR 2013. I already finished scripting Dance Dance Revolution (and its X-Special version), and I will report when I've finished the other two. Feel free to let me know if any other songs in DDR 2013 and up retain their classic background videos from 6th-8th mixes, so that I can re-script those as well. In the main thread I already posted updated video scripts for songs that use dedicated EXTREME2/STRIKE videos in DDR 2013 and up. Feel free to download them with their respective videos and replace the current .sm with my updated .sm's.

UPDATE: Dance Dance Revolution and GRADUATION done re-scripting, now available for use with Beware's bg vids in the main thread.
