How would I rip audio from the Wii DDR games? I would like to recreate the DDRII announcer in SM.

You need an unpacker for the BRSTMs, I used a lof of years ago a unpacker tool that runs from a console, the name of the tool Brsar_upacker00, I've used to unpack the hottest party system sounds and it works. You could check it ;) maybe there will be more modern tools. But is not hard to find.

Thanks for the help. I also figured out how to convert the files.

So far, I've been able to rip the songs and what appears to be blank audio files in place of the announcer saying the song titles. These files are numbered exactly like the songs, from 1 to 200. I'm guessing the announcer audio is in another castle archive.

Edit: Correction: The announcer files ARE in the brsar file. They just aren't getting ripped for some reason.

Try with another brsar ripper, when I've ripped the Hottest party sounds the announcer is there maybe konami has changed the codec or check another vrsion of the game. I think I have the announcer from hottest party 2 ripped on a backup I'll check it out

I tried Ripping Mama, BrawlBox, and brsar unpack. I was only able to get it working with Ripping Mama (which didn't rip the announcer sounds). brsar unpack didn't run, and I couldn't figure out BrawlBox but I doubt it would be any different.

HP2 works just fine, it seems like everything's here. Pretty sure that announcer is different, though. I believe the I/II announcer was first used in HP3 to announce song names, but it otherwise used the HP1/2 announcer.

Maybe the fact that there's blank files is throwing the rippers off? I could try 2010. Think I'll work on the original announcer for now though.

Edit: Alright, I'm looking at the HP2 files now...

I don't know if anyone noticed this, but there's arcade sound bites located on the disc. They're even in a folder labeled "GR_VOICE_ARCADE". This makes me think that this announcer was going to be the X announcer but they went with the Ozomatil guys in the end. Or maybe this was going to be the SN1 announcer but was scrapped, and reused for HP1-3.

Edit 2: Yeah, this was supposed to be an AC/PS2 announcer at some point, or maybe an Xbox one (less likely). There's How To Play lines in this as well, which the HP1 series never has had use for (How To Play is superseded by Lessons By DJ).

Also, there's two variations of the H2P intro: one that mentions both hands and feet and another that mentions only feet. I'm guessing Lesson By DJ was not originally planned.

Yeap, you're right, however in DDR II they added news announcer sounds, like "select song wheel" and "select Difiiculty" but the rest are the same than HP3 and 2010.

For HP and HP2 there are the sounds "Hurry", "what are you waiting for" and BOSS song sounds.

I'm not sure if it will work but it did when I ripped audio from the Taiko Wii games.

Rip the iso of DDRII and install Dolphin emulator.
Open Dolphin and set the iso directory to where you ripped the iso; when it shows up in the game listing, right click>File System and try to find where all the .brsar files are and extract the ones that seem like they would contain the announcer files (i.e. SFX)

Export them and this is where the iffy part comes in.
http://hcs64.com/vgm_ripping.html
Go to that site and download the brsar tools zip and a copy of Winamp (Going from memory)
Import the plugin into winamp and import the brsars that you ripped, Winamp should start playing them (You won't hear sound, it should actually be converting them to .wavs I believe)

That should be it.
I do remember using a simpler method to convert them however.
I'll try and attempt to extract the audio when I get home.

Hello,
I'm having a similar problem. I've been trying to rip the sounds from Minnano Rhythm Tengoku for a while, and just found out about the BRSARs yesterday. I've tried BRSAR-Unpack (didn't work), Ripping Mamma (only extracted the music) and a few others which either were apparently not made for extracting the sounds or have a user interface that I can't read, since I'm blind and I have to use a screenreading program which sometimes doesn't like some graphical user interface libraries.
I found a pack of the sounds somewhere, but for some weird reason most of them sound like they were recorded directly from a small TV speaker or something. I'd appreciate it if someone could recommend me some other BRSAR extraction tool that actually got the sounds. Ripping Mamma sees them but it doesn't actually know how to extract them, apparently.

Thanks

Sorry if this is unhelpful, but are these the sound effects you found? I haven't listened to all of them, but the ones I've heard sound pretty clear.
