how would difficulty be in this game? wouldn't some of the patterns just be plain awkward unless you strum with your elbow? (for long streams/patterns like TTFAF/fury of the storm etc)

I'd imagine songs would have fewer runs and lean towards more difficult chords. If it was more structured toward reading ability, each note should have a different lane...

Guitar Hero Live is trying to simulate the fact that you're playing a real guitar in front of a real crowd. Easier songs would most likely focus on the lead and some medium songs as well and songs that would be hard, both in Guitar Hero (5 buttons) and real guitar, would probably follow the rhythm guitar or switch between the two.

runs, trills and solos were literally my favourite part about the game, everyone remembers the ridiculously long solo in cult of personality where you could go without strumming for about 25 seconds, focusing the game on chords is going to really make it seem boring in my opinion
and again, there seems to be no ho-po system

I felt more thrilled with the soundtrack of Disney's Fantasia Evolved than with this soundtrack.
Guitar Hero Live? Worth a TRY. Just one. Back to Rock Band.

All the songs I like on there I already have in other GH/RB games.
It's moving in the right direction, but it ain't moving fast enough.

Agreeing with what Oni said. Most of the songs I like on the songlist (WHICH ARE VERY FEW) are in RB3 DLC.

I'll bring back some impressions after Tuesday during the opening of the E3 show floor. I'm expecting this to be one of the top played titles on the floor this year so I'll get as much as I can in..

So apparently, there are at least 75 songs at launch for Guitar Hero Live (and no, not the TV part) I'll write it all out if I get the time.
Speaking of TV:
American Idiot / Green Day
Another is Waiting / The Avett Brothers
Breaking the Law / Judas Priest
Bulls on Parade / Rage Against the Machine
Come With Me Now / KONGAS
Feel So Close / Calvin Harris
Freak on a Leash / Korn
Higher Ground / Red Hot Chili Peppers
I Gotsa Get Paid / ZZ Top
Lust for Life / Iggy Pop
Pedestrian at Best / Courtney Barnett
Rimbaud Eyes / Dum Dum Girls
The Lazy Song / Bruno Mars
Thunder Kiss '65 / White Zombie
Thunder on the Mountain / Bob Dylan
Under Cover of Darkness / The Strokes
Yes, at this point, it looks like everything on Live will be on TV, but they're worth noting specifically just in case.
Also, there will apparently be pre-order DLC relating to Avenged Sevenfold for GHTV.

Okay, so it came out yesterday on both previous and current-gen consoles. Since I absolutely CANNOT find Rock Band 4 for Xbox One with the legacy controller adapter, I bit the bullet and bought GHL today.
I'll tell you this: If Guitar Hero and Rock Band were DDR and In the Groove, Guitar Hero Live is Pump it Up. It's the same concept, but the new fret layout makes things a LOT trickier. Yes, you actually have to re-learn almost everything about guitar games. Especially when you go to higher levels and see these chords that involve a white button and a black button in the adjacent column: the fact there's only three lanes (much like GuitarFreaks) makes it deceptively simple. The guitar itself is nice; the fret buttons feel more like the ones on Rock Band guitars, which is nice, but I find them to sound a little creaky at times.
The soundtrack in Live mode (read: Career) rarely veers outside the current century. The GHTV section, however, has a lot more variety. You can play the songs through channels playing live "shows" (kinda like a radio station, synchronized with all players, kind of like a first-person shooter server) with hourly themes, or play songs on-demand. However, this is where the microtransaction stupidity kicks in: you have to spend "plays" to play them on-demand. To earn plays, you can either level up playing on the channels, buy them with coins you earn by doing well, buy them with Hero Cash (read: buy them with real money), or buy a timed "pass" with unlimited access for a certain span.
When I say the soundtrack in GHTV is diverse, I've seen it all; metal, rock, classic rock, country, pop, and even EDM?! (specifically Calvin Harris's "Feel So Close" and Zedd/Selena Gomez's "I Want You To Know". Those, along with "Bangarang" in Live, just don't make sense to me for some reason).
So, what do you think?

Honestly, the micro-transactions stopping you from playing the songs you WANT TO PLAY killed the whole damn game.
