Stepmania Creations/ New X-scale ratings

I like to create my own stepcharts for Stepmania, but I can never figure out how to rate them. The "Predicted Meter" is not a great resource. Is there any way I can figure out how to rate my stepcharts using the new X-scale (1-20)? I'm not good at determining a 9 from a 10 or a 4 from a 5 (just examples)

Well I like to compare the charts to DDR charts with the same rating.

Here's a guide for a 150 BPM song
1- Easier than easy. Only red notes no less than 2 spaces apart
2- Still easy. All reds. Notes are still placed apart, but not a lot of big gaps.
3- Easy. All reds, but notes may be placed consecutively in small amounts. Maybe some jumps.
4- Easy. All reds still, but the notes are placed closer together, with some gaps. Jumps.
5- Pretty easy. Consecutive red notes. Jumps. Maybe a few blues.
6- Easyish. Red notes with a few blues.
7- Medium. Red notes with some blues. No long streams.
8- Medium. Reds and blues. Some streams
9- A bit hard. Reds and blues. Some streams, and maybe a few yellows
10- A bit harder. Reds, blues, and some yellows. No 1/16 streams.
11- Hardish. Reds blues and yellows from here on. No 1/16s streams yet.
12- Hard. Some quick 1/16 streams. Complicated patterns.
13- Hard. More quick 1/16 streams. Hard patterns.
14- Tiring. Small 1/16 streams.
15- Exhausting. 1/16 streams.
16- Super Hard. 1/16 streams with stupidly hard patterns.

This is a guide for 200 BPM.

11- Hard. Reds and blues with maybe some yellows, maybe.
12- Hard. Reds blues, and maybe some yellows. Long 1/8 streams.
13- Harder. Reds, blues, and some yellows. Long 1/8 streams and complicated patterns.
14- Tiring. Reds, blues and yellows from now on. No long 1/16 streams at all.
15- Exhausting. Reds, blues and yellows. Some quick 1/16 streams.
16- Super hard. Some long 1/16 streams. Hard patterns.
17- Insane. Long 1/16 patterns.
18- Insaner. Long 1/16 patterns with all sorts or hard stuff.
19- Insanest. Yellow notes everywhere. Nonstop chart. Speed gimmicks.
20- WTF. Yellow notes. And green 1/32 notes. Pretty much impossible.

At the end of the day, it's up to your own judgment anyway. I wouldn't really go by what darkanine said (not because he's stupid but because it ignores many other aspects of files). It's more or less a trial-and-error thing. If you rate it a 14 and you notice there are more jumps than usual and they really enhance the difficulty, make it a 15. If you rate it a 14 and you notice there are no crossovers and the streams are relatively straightforward, rate it a 13. Alternatively, you can use another song to compare your steps. If you made a difficult slow song with no jumps or freeze arrows, but a lot of crossovers and sixteenths, try comparing it to SANA MOLETTE NE ENTE and see how much harder/easier it is.

I definitely agree that this is the best method of doing it, as long as you don't overlook anything. But if you can't decide on which number to rate it, just pick a rating that works and don't make a big deal out of it. I mean, according to DDR, Starmine's a 15, but 阿波おどり-Awaodori- is only a 14. As long as you're consistent, then you should be fine.
