Hello. My name is SBDA, and I am a first time poster on the site. I've been playing rhythm games like DDR and the "Hero" games since I was a tot. Recently, I've come across Beatmania IIDX, and I've really taken a massive interest in it. As if it wasn't hard enough merely finding a DDR cab in my area, IIDX was never released here, so I decided to dive into emulating the series. Now herein lies the problem, I only speak English, I use a Mac, and those practically get you burned at the stake when trying IIDX. HELP.

however I'm not sure if that or any data will work on Mac; all games are generally on win XP

StepMania 5 has some decent themes (I was using a IIDX Troopers theme that had customizable lanes and theme music), and .bms files should still work with the game, iirc.

This is probably the best option. I already have SM5, but I didn't know it could read bms filles. Thanks, for 1) a solution, and 2) the lack of "get a pc ffycin sqrub" posts.

Best advice for you, if you want to use SM5 to read BMS files: don't.
Just stick with Lunatic Rave if you want to do that.
I like this guy already.

My feather goes in the LR2 cap. While the simulator is certainly showing its age, I still find it to be the superior simulator for IIDX. In terms of its feature set and experience, it offers the closest experience to playing real IIDX.
Considering you are on a Mac though, starting on SM5 might be a suitable option to give IIDX style gameplay a test run. It does also have a IIDX theme available on it which works very nicely. But if you do start taking a liking to IIDX, I do highly recommend finding a solution to run LR2 on your Mac.

SM5 has a game mode called KB7 that's similar, as well. Support for it is not what I'd call great, but it's definitely there.

I think you mean, "beat", not "kb7" mode.

Indeed, sorry about that. (Though kb7 is similar.)

Why does my hatred of the common PC gamer make you like me?
Continuing.
I tried playing a BMS file in SM5 with a IIDX theme. The theme didn't work right, it looked hideous. It was also buggy as hell, and with that part of SM development shut down, that's obviously not a good option. What i have been doing that's worked in a pinch is played osu!mania, but BMS' don't work. You have to get thew BMS converted to an osu file, and since my Wineskinned version of osu! that is the official Mac version for now can't do that, my song choices have been very limited. I would like to use LR2, but I haven't been able to find a solution for the fact hat it's PC only. And what's all this nonsense about PLUGOUT? What even is it?

No. It's seriously outdated and unsupported, not to mention lacking in features.
It was good when it came out, but then the owner decided to vanish into thin air some 5 years ago and the project was left to die.

I wouldn't wish this abomination on anyone.
All those days when I was clearing sevens bashing my head against V (h) thinking it was an 8 when it actually was a 10 on the standard scale.

I really would not use BMUS. Even if there is no alternative. The lack of timing configuration settings is what kills it. I dunno maybe just me
