"Sleepy"
So I first started playing IIDX on keyboard a couple of months ago. I walled on 8s for a couple of weeks because of cheap keyboard rollover and latency issues while I waited for my controller. Now that I've got my USKOC, my scratching skills are about a month behind, and I have very embarrassing scores on the likes of Watch out!!! (A), Watch Out Pt. 2 (H), Digitank System (H), the last of which I managed to pass today. I pinky scratch and play 1P like this:

(credit for image goes to DJ DARQs and his great technique video, despite the fact that I still put ring on 7)

My bad habits I've noticed are hitting 1 with the ball of my left hand while scratching instead of hitting with my left thumb and bringing my right hand down, as well as not being able to freestyle at all. Are there any moderately difficult scratching songs that I can use to get a handle on the turntable better? I have access to songs from between 12 and 20 AC. Thanks in advance.

There are some instances where it is better to play one handed and scratch rather than try to pinky scratch and mess everything up. Watch Out SPA would be a good example. The beats around the middle are easy enough to one hand so you can focus on scratch speed. Black SPH would be good practice song too, although you can get away with pinky scratching on these songs with a good score.

But if you watch dolce play beachside bunny, even he decides to one hand some stuff.

I practice scratching by trying hard clear dj Mass mad izm's song.

just normal clearing shkunetsu snake stick black x-fade is also pretty helpful.

IMO, it's better to learn how to scratch accurately than how fast can I scratch. Start simple, concentrate on how much force is required to move the turntable to activate a scratch. This is very dependent on what controller you're using, but it should require some to barely enough force to trigger one. Once you get a grasp of it, progressively practice on songs with simple to complex scratching patterns. More importantly, you'll start to grasp scratching is just another "button" on the controller. ;3
