There is no "bad/good" curve I think however going at 8 within a week is overall fast
Within my first week I was struggling to easy clear those level 6 songs (remember getting a headache for clearing the conditions to unlock the songs during Lincle Kingdom when I first started, wanted to play tenku no yoake badly as it was just released).I don't remember exactly my overall own speed progress but as long as you don't get discouraged when hitting a wall (and there will be walls) it should be a fun ride.
If I remember right, it took me a year to get to 9-dan and that was considered "normal"/slightly fast (I've seen people becoming kaiden in a year, and people stuck at 7th dan for 5 years)
If I had one advice to give now, that would be to find a good hand position while you are still at the beginning.
I'm one of those 10 dan stuck with a crappy hand position so high level 12 become just hell to correctly play. So while it may not feel natural, and a bit hard in the beginning, it's better to make it straight at the start (well, everyone has its favorite position however)

Soo umm I just start playing beatmania iidx about a week ago (went on 4 seperate occasions during the week) for about 1 hr each day. I am able to play most 6-7s and pass some 8's. My question is this bad? normal? or am i ahead of the curve?
I'd say this is pretty good. My roommate has put over 200 hours into IIDX over the last 4 months and has only passed about four 6's, so based on my experience I'd say this is fast. In contrast, I've put in ~300 hours over the last 5 months and am 5th Dan/cleaning 9's. It all has to do with learning speed and background. People with a significant piano background or rhythm game background will naturally progress faster.

A big suggestion would be to play through all of the songs. I started at Level 1 and just went level by level and have yet to hit a wall doing so due to the sheer volume of music in the game. 9 dan in a year seems slightly fast to me. My goal is to reach 7/8-dan within my first year of play base don my current speed.
I second the hand position thing. For the first 4 months I played with a crappy position. It wasn't bad, but when I switched to a better one my progress leaped significantly.

What is a ”Good" hand position? I used my 2 indexes and my middle finger for the blacks, and for the whites I used my thumb and pink for the right side, whilst for the left i kinda just change dynamically depending on the map, sometimes for scratcher heavy maps i only used my right hand and only place my left hand in for "denser" patterns , (of course for me dense will be something like a 3 note cord). (Also you are correct in that I have rhythm game experience in stuff like stepmania , osu! , o2!jam , guitar hero rada rada)

Well, using the thumbs is already a pretty good thing (while ashamed to say it, even I don't use them much and that's my biggest problem)
There is a good variety of hand position, of course which depends on your own playstyle and preferences
I'm not an expert for this, nor is a reference, so instead will put here a link for a video of Darqs explaining some of the most used hands positions

Yeah, doing folder is a good thing imo, though usually, trying to challenge your self on the last stage is a nice training (it's your last song anyway). When I started, I wanted to play those extra stage so gave my all to be able to clear those level 8 for example (actually, for quite some time, I couldn't do it so used Shakunetsu Beach Side Bunny, a level 7, which I could 100% easy clear, to access those Extra Stage ^^)
Also, playing old versions may be good training, especially before 5th style, since the charts were really different by then (surprised myself at dying yesterday trying to Ex-Hard a level 7, while I can usually Ex-Hard a good half of the level 11 songs >.>)

What are the exact requirements for an extra stage though? (I just get extra's by playing Follow Tommorow since it's a super easy level 8 to pass), i can't find any concrete requirements anywhere, is it passing simply passing a level 7 +? 日本語を話すことができますだれもですか?

From my understanding, you have to do one of the following on final stage...-Full Combo a 5 or 6.
-Finish a 7 with a 100% lifebar.
-Pass an 8 or higher.

Also websites like http://clickagain.sakura.ne.jp/ are really helpful if you want to do some homework choosing songs you want to play without stepping on landmines (eg. Watch Out pt 2 for lv9)
You don't have to understand Japanese. Just to understand the numbers

Hoping for a minimalist and colorful style for the next installment, like jubeat and REFLEC BEAT.

I don't think we'll get one until after this event. So I say sometime July or August we should get something.

It hugely depends on what fingers you normally use for which keys. My best bet is to find videos of a player who uses the same hand position as you, and slow them down to see how they handle it?

Ironically the fast one's i typically don't have a problem with cuz i roll by fingers along the keys by muscle memory, however the ones that are hard are those in 1/8 notes , because there's a lot more pressure on timing .-.
