Since the ZIv contest has always been a regular thing, as with all the other contests, I will sticky this thread for easy access.

No there will not be a doubles bracket. SC is already a choir to keep track of as it is. However because of the doubles bracket in TOI, there might be more of an influence to step doubles. Members who do doubles charts might get a few extra votes for their simfile, especially from doubles players. #protipforall

Oh screw it. I wasn't going to join this because I haven't been playing SM for a while, and I'm working full time this summer, but why not. I'm in.

Chewi suggested in the chat that we should have a 6-feet and below week where all the charts must be six-footers or easier. I think this is a great idea. Therefore, this is a suggestion for a theme. Use it (if you want).

Why not 13-feet and higher
(or dumpstream week)

I mean I like these ideas. I prefer themes that restrict the chart you can make, rather than the songs you can choose. It's just more interesting to me. Unless you make another DDR Remake theme. I'd love that as well since I've never really participated in one.

6-feet and lower would just be really boring to play...
Edit: Hell, my opinion.

Less boring than a bunch of too-hard files.

as much as I loved "ZIv Academy" it was a bit of hassle with organization and time although I would love to see something like "dumpstream" week in all honestly or the return of "12th's Week"
I just hope that we see more chart oriented themes as they are a lot more fun and creative

I'm gonna throw in my two cents.
[rant]In my personal opinion, a chart can be fun regardless of if it's a 6-footer OR a 13-footer. Difficulty doesn't matter in the quality of the chart, per se. What matters towards quality in my opinion is how well the steps flow with the song, execution of crossovers/spins, symmetry, etc. I know doublesteps are a touchy subject, but I'm gonna touch on them. If doublesteps are intentionally thrown in as spins/270 pivots/etc. and are recoverable from, then by all means throw them in if they fit the song and aren't too fast. However, doublesteps that can't be recovered from without using one foot twice (as in, spinning them would be very awkward) and don't really follow any part of the song just feel like "I lazily threw this together in five minutes and didn't pad-test it." That's why I tend to love symmetrical files with properly-flowing crossovers and spins: they show the artistic nature of stepcharts, and the painstaking nature of the step artist.
Back to the topic of difficulty, if a song's nature doesn't allow for a difficult chart, then it shouldn't be stepped with a difficult chart, that's overstepping/ITG syndrome. *glares at My Favorite Game and Do U Love Me's Expert charts from ITG1* Understepping isn't as big of an issue, but if a song sounds fast/heavy/hardcore/ominous/whatever enough to have a chart in the 8-10 range, then it should IMO. Please, nothing like a Go Beyond!! chart with 1/2/4/7 as the difficulty range. The only thing as bad as playing a relaxed song with 10-footer steps is playing a pulse-pounding... 5-footer.[/rant]

I'm not particularly sure I like the idea of dumpstream week. Boss songs week, yeah, but 'throw all the 16ths and hope for the best?' That don't fly.

as much as I loved "ZIv Academy" it was a bit of hassle with organization and time I looked back at an older Summer Contest to see what ZIv Academy was all about, and it looks like more trouble than it's worth. Trying to collaborate together on one simfile in just one week could get kinda messy. Themes that have more to do with the charts themselves like 12ths Week or Crossovers Week sound much more fun in my opinion.
